T’bitha studies the dilapidated tavern skeptically before Khessa orders the door open. She jumps at the commanding warrior’s bark and she. Fumbles the keys before unlocking the door. She stumbles aside as Khessa moves past to size up the situation.
The drow quietly and hesitantly follows looking around warily. She makes her way to the old bar and looks to see what old bottles might still be there. Perhaps an old red wine that has aged very well. Eillistraee only knows how she could use a drink to ease her anxiety.
Entering the dilapidated tavern, Dimitri scanned around for anything out of ordinary. It was actually not bad. Dirty and abandoned, sure. If he were to invest a business of his own, they could patch this place up and hire some people to help. A tavern by day and a den by night. He could ask Ozemon about it later.
T’bitha silently observes Dimitri looking around the place. His movements appear purposeful as he moves from one area to the next. She wonders if he is diligently looking for hazards or scouting the place out for his own purposes. She finds an old, red wine amongst the many bottles of other liquors. She uncorks it and sniffs it. “Smells okay…” she takes a sip and determines it has not fouled. She finds an unbroken glass and wipes the inside with her dress to clean it out and pours the crimson liquid into it. She swishes it around and smells it again to be sure before taking a more generous drink.
”Khessa, Dimitri…is it safe enough for you two? I’m getting tired. It is late. Did you find any rooms we could use to bunk down for the evening?”
T'bitha, you find the door was already unlocked, as when you use the key and attempt to open the door it doesn't budge. You use the key again, and the door opens with ease. All of you enter into the building and T'bitha, you make your way to the bar. The bar top is nearly completely covered in empty and nearly empty bottles, and the shelf on the wall behind is mostly bare, though there are some empty bottles.
(OOC: It's dark dark in here. It's getting late, so the sun is setting, and any light that would seep in through the windows from the sun is stopped by the fact that the windows are boarded up, so I'm assuming someone is lighting a torch, or using magic to create light in here for Dimitri's perception check.)
Looking over the interior of the building, Dimitri, it most definitely looks like an abandoned building, and more appropriately, while you don't see anything that looks severely out of place, you do see signs of recent activity in here. In one of the corners of this single-roomed building, there is a mess of bedrolls laid out. Dimitri, you also notice from where you're currently standing, a slight reflection of the dancing light in the room underneath the bedrolls, suggesting there is some sort of metal object under them.
Searching the random mostly empty bottles on the bar, T'bitha, you find a few that appear to be red wine. Each bottle has enough for a single sip, or you could mix them all together (yum) and get more. You all also notice this is only a single room. There are no stairs heading up to the second floor above the tavern.
T’bitha begins pouring the various bottles together to make a full drink. She swishes it around and drinks the concoction. At least it helps to take the edge off. She looks around the room and realizing there are no stairs, she wrinkles her nose at the accommodation and tries to make the best of it. She decides to move a table and some chairs to one of the corners and create a makeshift room for herself.
”What is your plan, Khessa?” She tries to stifle a yawn and adjusts her wardrobe a little so she can rest more comfortably. “I will gladly take the early morning watch. I’m tired.”
((Forgot about the mini cannon)) Before leaving the house, Hadi picks up the strange device on the ground and places it into his pack to look at later.
Walking in to the dark, 'abandoned' tavern, Hadi runs a finger across the dust and then flicks it off himself clearly disappointed. Seeing Tabitha mix the dregs of the other bottles he shudders to himself and says, "Oh honey. We'll find a proper drink for you later." Knowing that they are there to set up a 'trap' of sorts, Hadi immediately gets to work running around the perimeter of the room setting up his alarm, trying his best to keep his clothing clean (and then later cleaning them off himself once done
Given the quite lacking illumination, Khessa murmurs a quick formula, causing an empty bottle to shed a warm orange Light, before joining Dimitri in exploring the place. Indipendently from the masked man, she also starts thinking of a good use for the abandoned building: 'Such a pity to waste such a big place! It could host a library of magic books, where wizards could easily share their knowledge and their spells! It would be so much easier and safer, then, to learn new spells... No need to risk the life exploring dangerous ruins...'
But as soon as she Dimitri finds the 'signs of activity', she quickly focuses back on the current situation.
"So there are guests, just like Ozemon thought, even if they are not here at the moment" reflects Khessa, removing the bedrolls to better see what is the metal they hide (some weapon, maybe?). "Better to keep an eye on the door, they will come back, sooner or later".
"My plan?"replies then to T'bitha "I plan to have the hunters attack us here, believing us to be unprepared. I believe they were somehow spying us, when I told all how safe we would have been tonight. They should take the bite and attack while they believe we don't expect it. I plan then to fight back, possibly setting up some trap in advance now, like heavy things hanging over doors or windows, ready to fall if we cut the rope (or whatever else we can come up with). I plan to resist them and keeping them busy. Until the guards come and leave them no more escape. With us before and the guards behind, the hunters should fall".
Khessa has a rope and also pitons and hammer; would she able to hang something heavy (maybe a table?) inside, over the door, ready to be released (maybe by cutting the rope?) on an intruder? Once the table is secured in place, it could also be loaded by debris, to make it much more heavy (and thus more effective in crashing or pinning intruders). If this is doable, Khessa would try to set up that.
She would ask all in the meantime: "If somebody has some idea for other traps to place, either near windows or in room... The more surprises we have in store for the hunters, the better are our chances to cripple their attack. Maybe oil pools to set ablaze? Or some zone with caltrops, if we have?".
The blonde arcane warrior also asks Hadi: "Nice job with the alarms! Once done, could you check the room for magic that is not ours? Just to be sure nobody is spying on us by those means now".
Then, as far as Khessa can tell, it will only be a matter of taking watch turns, waiting for the guests and/or the hunters to return. We could place some debris under the bed rolls to give the impression we are sleeping there, while we could stay in a more hidden position instead, like behind the bar. We should also lock the door, or it would be too easy to enter... it would be suspicious.
Tristan looks worried and urges the group to hurry as they make their way to the tavern. Once there he scans the perimeter (OOC: How far away are the nearest buildings around the tavern, and are they residential or other businesses?) As they head inside, he immediately shuts the door behind them.
"I still think we are endangering the civilians far too much with this plan. We should try and clear out the nearest buildings discreetly to get the people inside away from the worst of the danger."
Turning to T'bitha, Tristan continues "T'bitha, do you know anything about the abilities of these Shadowhunters? Are they spellcasters? We don't want to be caught off guard if we are the ones laying the trap. Khessa, I advise that one or two of us stay outside the building. That way we can keep watch better, and we can flank any intruders. I suggest myself and Dimitri as we will likely draw the least attention."

“I will take responsibility for what I have done. [...] If must fall, I will rise each time a better man.” ― Brandon Sanderson, Oathbringer.
As both of you, Khessa and Dimitri, move toward the bedrolls and move them, you uncover a metal grate hatch in the ground, that seems to lead to a cellar or basement. Khessa, you can definitely set up a deadfall (would you like it to be trip wire, or manual activation by you?) give me a straight intelligence check to see how well you set up this trap.
As you scan the perimeter around the old tavern, Tristan, it's still pretty busy. While most of the folk are in the tavern down the road, there are still a handful of people who are doing last minute shopping before the shops close for the evening.
(OOC: Tristan, you seem to be in a business zone part of town, but as with many places, the buildings are mixed-use buildings, where there is a shop on the ground floor, and residential housing on the 2nd floor. It's likely the people living above the shops are the shop owners.)
The blonde arcane warrior also asks Hadi: "Nice job with the alarms! Once done, could you check the room for magic that is not ours? Just to be sure nobody is spying on us by those means now".
"Not a problem!"Hadi says slowly finishing up his alarm he then begins to whistle as he looks around the room, ritually casting Detect Magic. While doing so he also sends Laza up and outside to perch on the roof just to keep an extra set of eyes out for anyone approaching the building ((5))

"Fine by me if you and Dimitri prefer to stay outside," replies Khessa "but you better to change your appearence or to hide well, for the hunters know what you look like if they were spying on us. So they must not see you. As for as the civilians are concerned, I don't think they will be more in danger thsn during the assaul to Ozemon's estate: what the hunters want is inside, not outside. Their strike will be directed to us. Ditto for eventual area of effect spell. And we have no civilians inside this big building. I'd say you could warn nearby house, but I prefer not too, to avoid that something out of the ordinary might give our preparation away".

Khessa goes for manual activation. She asks help for someone: "Can someone look with me how to set up this deadfall? I'll lift the heawy weights, but I'd like to have someone with me who can point out if I'm doing something wrong..."
Making 2 rolls: if nobody helps we keep the 1st , if someone helps and give advantage we kerp the best:
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Finally, discovering the metal grate hatch in the ground, that seems to lead to a cellar or basement: "Better to check the basement also. We could find something useful for the defence... or the guests, or an alternative access we don't know of".
So, after she had finished with the deadfall, she looks down (also descending in the cellar, if she finds a stair).
Perception (if needed during basement exploration): 15
T’bitha responds to Tristan, ”Some use magic. Most are trackers to bring traitorous drow back to the Underdark. If there truly are about 15 of them, I guarantee there will be at least one that will invoke the arcane arts.”
T’bitha observes Khessa’s invested energy into laying her trap and admires her fortitude and perseverance. Such that it inspires her to help come up with an idea. She goes behind the bar and grabs several bottles. She finds a rag or sack and breaks the bottles without making a mess. She carefully scoops the broken glass shards and places them under a window. She notes the bedrolls that Dimitri and Khessa find and takes one to put in her make-shift room surrounded by the tables and chairs for a little privacy. She returns to Khessa, Hadi, Tristan and Dimitri to see where she can help out before she decides she is too tired and gets some sleep.
You're pretty positive you built a well designed trap for this front door, Khessa. And T'bitha, you make some noise makers from the glass bottles to put below the windows, and collect one of the bedrolls to use in your makeshift bedroom. The grate that leads to the cellar is locked, but the keys T'bitha have are capable of unlocking it. The cellar has several empty standing barrels, and several tapped barrels on racks. It takes a moment for you, Khessa, but you also eventually notice a rather large hole that has been created in the cellar. It looks as if someone tunneled into the cellar from underground, likely from a neighboring building.
"Good one T'bitha!" exclaims Khessa, as she sees the Eilistraee priestess putting the noise makers "A bit of those might be useful here at the door also... so it will be less likely that intruders enter unnoticed. Plus, their attention might be drawn to the floor, making them less likely to spot the danger above" and she does that.
As she finally finds the hole in the cellar, she thinks to herself: 'Front door... windows... and now the hole in the cellar! This place is leaking like a sieve! We must defend this access also... But at least, if the hunters do not know of this, it could serve us as an emergency exit'.
"Hey, people!" the blonde arcane warrior warns the others "The rats must be REALLY big down here! Come to take a look at this!"
She piles some of the barrels near the hole, so that they could be unbalanced and made to fall on an intruder with a quick push.
"I think it is better if we know where the hole leads" the tall warrior-mage declares, then she starts exploring it, even alone if nobody else is interested, lighting her way with the bottle she enchanted before (she renews the cantrip, if needed).
“If we are going to do this, we have to stay discreet. Given how pragmatic drows are, I doubt they’d use unnecessary force on unrelated people. If some got caught in the middle… well, people in the slums know how to run. This won’t be the first time they see a fight. Of course, I’d rather not this to be a fight. I don’t like we purposely draw them to us, instead of running… we don’t know how many they are, what they are capable of. We don’t even know if the guards will show up. We need time to scout and time to plan. This doesn’t feel like a plan, this feels like a gamble. Last time I was in a group didn’t do all the preparations before a job, they’re either dead or locked up.”
Dimitri draws a breath in. But since he can’t convince the group otherwise, he looks for exits when situation gets too dangerous. He’d rather not get burned in other people’s affairs. He climbs down the cellar and inspects the tunnel with Khessa.
”I agree, Dimitri. To me, this just doesn’t feel right; however, we’ve made our bed and now we must lay in it. Which, coincidentally, is what I intend to do. It has been a long day as it were.”
T’bitha gets a bedroll and moves it to her little make-shift room with tables and chairs for a little privacy. She does her best to get comfortable and retires for the evening.
