While Sparhawk and group watches Bjorn, he looks at the writing from across the room.(ink, blood, chalk?)
"Nice job my friend. As always, you are a resourceful man. Be careful thought, I dare say I rather like you and wouldn't want to end up losing one of my few friends this day."
"Hm! It seems Abernathy left behind a payment for his rescuers. Wizards are clever, eh?"
4 to check the next one, and 20 to open it up
Like the first chest, you see no signs of traps and you are able to pick the lock successfully without a problem. Inside this chest which isn’t full, but has quite a few gems of different types as well as a bundle of interesting looking blow gun darts. Very exotic looking and they glow with magic essence to Eberk’s eyes.
So far about 15 minutes have gone by and there is one more chest. You all hear another round of whispers, chattering, laughing, weeping and other sounds…not quite as loud as before.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Hm! Well, I'd hardly want to push my luck, what with all I've found already." He looks over his shoulder and grins. "Did ye believe me?"
18 to run a knife around the inside edge of the chest, seeking a gap that can leverage out a false bottom. 19 to do the same for the first one. "He does love his... Morbid theatrics, doesn't he... Ye'd almost think there were somebody else here."
And then 16 to check the third for traps, and 15 to try to get it open.
Sparhawk continuing to rest and be amused by Bjorn's new hobby......
"So crew.....I've been thinking, and that's never good for a half-orc paladin." He smiles at the group. "If we think that Abernath is being chased by the wizards of They" He holds up the bag with the two arms and necklace as evidence.
"...And, we think that Abernath has set some traps for these enemies..." He continues to think.. perhaps trying to reason something out.
"I believe this to be a trap. No guards, easy locks to pick, no offense Bjorn, no apparent traps that explode, riches of every denomination. A hand carved warning on the wall above, The curse can never be broken.... I think if we take anything from these chests, and I assure you the next one will have even more temptations. We are either setting off a trap or those who take the treasure will be cursed."
The trap is simply, GREED!" Sparhawk seems quite confident in his assessment.
"Convince me that I'm wrong on this one crew, or we're leaving it all for now."

And then 16 to check the third for traps, and 22 to try to get it open.
Thoroughly poking about for extra bottoms or niches in the first chest you find it to be ordinary with nothing else secret. In the second chest you don’t find a secret section but you do find a small cable attached to a small rod that protrudes through the bottom of the chest. Looking at the underside of the lid of the chest you can see where it may have been attached previously.
the third chest seems clear of traps and opens easily with your great skill with the lock picking tools. Inside you find it is full of bolts of cloth, mostly silks of varying colors. Vibrant and high quality.

"What d'ye make of this?" Bjorn indicates the broken connection inside the second chest. "To me, it looks like it's there to let the owner know it's been opened."
He shuffles over to rest and plan out the next move. "Supposin' that there's a curse. If only one person were to take any loot, and supposin' he weren't told to do so by anyone else, then it seems like the curse would only be on that one person, would you agree?"
As you are sitting there you notice a greenish mist settling on the floor. You look around and see that it is originating front the mouths of the deformed skulls
"I'm no expert on curses, but you are saying let the taker beware. Sometimes curses only affect the one, but others, the curse affects all."
"I'm not your master, just the designated captain. I'm not taking any of this stuff from these chests. If any of you want to do so, I"m not completely against it, but I don't think its a good idea and I'll be pretty angry at you if your choice becomes my problem."
As Sparhawk is warning the group about his suspicions, he notices something and stops. "Hey, do any of you see this green mist on the floor?" He looks more closely. "I think its coming from these skulls!"
"Poison or worse... probably time to head out. Bjorn, that could be what you suspect, or perhaps a secret way out if pulled. It could be what triggered the green mist. Either way, I don't suppose I'm waiting around here to find out. Anyone feel sick or tired?"

“Bjorn, so far so good. If I recall, Abernath had some chests in his home with false bottoms. Maybe you find more loot.”

Roll a perception check
Perception for Sparhawk: 19

Lir casts create or destroy water on the gas - destroying the liquid vapor -
Destroy Water. You destroy up to 10 gallons of water in an open container within range. Alternatively, you destroy fog in a 30-foot cube within range.
(oooh, that just might work!)
Eberk looks down at the mist. “Ah hell. He digs in his pack. Someone give me a blade.”
Sparhawk points to his holster of weapons, "Take your pick" (Warhammer, Morningstar, longsword...)
Eberk pulls the longsword and begins cutting up one of his wolf furs into small chunks. “Try to fill the mouths. Might buy us some time.”
Frangipani waits to see if Lirs plan works, if not she creates rain in the chamber to dampen the vapour and prevent it from being airborne.
Create /Destroy Water.
Sparhawk grabs a pelt and tries to cover a mouth to see if the fumes stop from that skull.
(are the fumes toxic)
"Ah." Bjorn nods, as if he was somehow expecting a gaseous death trap. "Well."
