This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Bjorn wildly swings and manages to swat down one of the mosquitos which squirms on the ground in disarray, clinging to life as Frangipani’s healing brings Lir back from the brink and then douses the injured monster in poison.
All the mouths pucker closed and the eyes roll back into its body…it shivers and shakes in wild convulsions and then, an explosion of light fills the cave forcing all of you to turn away.
A second or two passes before you look to see the giant skeeters have vanished and laying where the ouster once resided, you see the deceased body of one Abernath the infernal.
“Bjorn!” Eberk marches towards the human. “If you try that dirty, mind magic on me again, I will not hesitate to knock you senseless. You don’t want the book destroyed? Fine. But it remains separate from all of our other things and I will carry it, on our little pole thing. We can have someone more knowledgeable than any of us take a look at it. Does that seem fair?”
When the charm wears off on Sparhawk, he is not pleased. He looks at Bjorn, looks at Eberk. In an almost imperceptible voice, “I suggest you comply with the Earthlords request, lest I think you are possessed by the evil demonic book my friend”
He looks at Eberk, Lir, Frangipani, hoping they are ready for an intervention
(i think we're being pursued by another, larger monster. Would not expect to get much time to rest)
Bjorn glowers at Eberk, and attempts to assert that it's impossible for a team to work together under such conditions of obvious disrespect (perhaps even classism, as clearly Eberk comes from a successful family while poor Bjorn comes from nothing...!), but ultimately agrees to hand over the tome.
"Oi, look here. That's the man himself." Bjorn stoops down to rifle through Abernath's pockets. "He ain't worth much now, but I get the impression it's worth the loss of coin, to not have to talk to him."
“Thank you, Bjorn my friend, you are wise beyond your years”
Sparhawk smiles genuinely. “After all we’ve been through, there is no classism here. We are brothers and sisters on these missions together. I trust each of you with my life”
“Now, let’s get some rest, look through Abernaths stuff for any additional evidence, and figure out where we are.”
Abernath has no objects on his person and is wearing what looks like a ceremonial type robe. On his forehead and up and down both arms there are symbols drawn with what appears to be blood mixed with charcoal. Bjorn would recognize one or 2 of the symbols from the book
Lir sits up, faces the group. He is completely uncurious about how they were all transported to this other location.
"Went outside. Jungle. Also this large creature, ape-like - [to Frangipani] like, stronger, hairier men, cousins to them like spirits to us - it saw me.
"I used the staff to defend me. Not that they did."
After about 10 minutes or so you feel a rumble in the walls of the cavern. A few minutes later it shakes again, this time a little stronger. Lir and Frangipani will notice a small stream of water begin to flow into the cavern. First a trickle and then more.

(Lol)
roll to see who you hit. your action happens prior to Frangipani’s
( yes, initiative order. You will need to roll a d8, dependent on who Bjorn hits. You revive after he strikes)
Sparhawk’s blind swing just misses his friend Eberk.
Frangipani seems to be immune to cackling voices
[For after Bjorn's action].
1
8 (1-4: Mosquitos 1-4; 5: Stinger; 6; Sparhawk; 7: Eberk; 8: Lir; 9: Frangipani)
Bjorn calls back the Shadow Blade (bonus action), then attacks... someone. Attack: 11 Damage: 6

“Lir am I glad to see you!”
“Eberk, Frangi, amazing work with that thing. I don’t know what came over me!” The embarrassed Paladin says
Then he walks over to his very good friend Bjorn and gives him a hug.
“I love you my brother”
I believe we have found the whereabouts of our dear wizard. We will have much to report to Irongrass and I believe a large reward”
“Now, let’s rest here and heal up a bit and find a way back”
"GIANT SIX ARMED GORILLA!"
....Lir collapses again and starts trancing.
" What's a gorilla?"
“Bjorn!” Eberk marches towards the human. “If you try that dirty, mind magic on me again, I will not hesitate to knock you senseless. You don’t want the book destroyed? Fine. Sparhawk will heal Lir 15 hp with lay on hands.

quietly, he pulls out the weighted net

“Thank you, Bjorn.” Eberk puts the book inside the empty bag and affixes it to the pole once again. “So Captain, what’s our next move?”
“Thank you, Bjorn my friend, you are wise beyond your years”
Sparhawk smiles genuinely.

[What time is it?]
Indicates body, "is this him? Your wizard?"
“Yes Lir, we have…unfortunately found our wizard”
”we need to provide proof to our employer of his demise”
We’ll rest here and recover and find a way back to the tower. Sounds like we are in Kurth”
Sparhawk pulls Eberk and Frangipani aside (but Lir can look too)
We need to keep an eye on Bjorn. I think the book is trying to control him
