"Don't get me wrong, happy to go **** stuff up for you, you're royal royalness," Sam explains, "But it is a tad ironic that you sit there accusing me of unstated crimes while sending me and mine to go destroy the workings of the genocide you and yours have been committing."
Sam shrugs. "Well Peacekeepers? Let's go keep some peace..."
Vin listens in silence, and when Gewyn looks to him he nods, even though he is far from happy. He looks across to Sol, taking in their babysitter, and wondering how in the hells it came to the point where they needed one.
Shenoh seemed to be holding on to his comment about them being a family, as if family meant perfect harmony. Well that wasn't the case for the Peacekeepers. Now all he could hope was that when it came down to it, they could find a common enemy to stop them tearing each other apart. He smiles at the thought as he looks Sol up and down.
Vin heads to Gewyn to retrieve his crystal ball, or to whoever has it, and then moves across to Sol.
"I am curious", he says to Sol whilst he waits for everyone to be ready. "Why did you think you were creating Mornlyf and using it to kill leaving perfectly preserved corpses and shipping them off to Vox Tontritor?".
Muir stands around away from Sam and the group. "Your highness, we are going to need to find a Phylactery in order to defeat Nivara. It would look expensive with runes on it. By chance, and I know this is a longshot, but were you entrusted with anything from Vox Tronitor that would resemble this?"
Sam is looking towards the exit tapping his toe and checking his wrist. He would be checking his watch but they haven't been invented yet do he's really just checking out a suspicious mole he has on the inside knobby wrist-bone, whatever that is called. Point is, it's obvious he is sick of all the talky talky and is ready to move on to some smashy smashy.
Elthana's eyes widen and stares at Shenoh, her words sinking in. Finally, and very slowly she nods, knowing the woman is correct and that even if she did disagree, there was no way she could get out of it, she knew when she did not have the upper hand.
She sighs and turns around, heading to Gewyn first. She uncharacteristically throws her arms around her friend and holds him tight. "Thank you for lending me your sweet friend. I'm going to miss his companionship, he's a brilliant little fey. Going to miss you Spyro." She lets go, waiting for the dragon to leave her and head back to Gewyn, unless of course he protests, she'll gladly keep him. "You said you wanted to chat? Something you can say now in front of everyone? Else it is going to have to wait a while."
She then turns to the rest of the group, "I have to stay here. Shenoh requires that I stay by her side, safe until Mori is dealt with. Obviously this is not what I want or prefer, but I don't see a way out of it and you all know we need them on our side. So please, deal with Mori quickly." she smiles at this last part knowing that it didn't need to be said.
She walks over to Vin and gives him a hug as well. "Take care of these oafs, they would be lost without you. Tell Neferoux to be good or she'll have me to answer to. You're a natural on that broom, it's like it was made for you. Keep this group, this family together until I rejoin you."
Next she turns to Muir, she looks at him appraisingly, "Good to see you all back to your old beautiful self." she then leans in and hugs him as well. "Ask your questions, knowledge is power. But be aware of the situation, empathy can be your ally."
Finally she walks over to Sam. She stands in front of him and sighs. "I'm very glad to see that you are alright. But I can't... I can't say goodbye until this situation is settled. I saw.. I how you left our friend, our Muir after what... you sent a rat to feast on him? So please... I would like to hear your side of the story."
Sam stiffens when Elthana approaches but otherwise doesn't really react. He listens to what she has to say and his shoulders slump a bit, his eyes narrow a bit and he turns to look just to her left instead of at her. "No," he says. He aims for the word to be flat, without inflection, but it undoubtedly comes out a bit cold. "I've no need to say any more."
He wants to argue with Shenoh, point out that she said the TEAM would be going to destroy the poison she created. He wanted to point out to Elthana that they weren't being sent after Mori but instead to clean up Shenoh' own mess. But why? He would not be listened to. Understood. His words would not matter. So he would hit things. It's all he was ever good at anyway. Best he get back to it as quickly as possible.
Vin's whole body tenses as Elthana proclaims she has to stay behind by Shenoh's order. When she comes across to hug him, she finds him rigid, his hands balled into fists as he only half hugs her back and slowly shakes his head.
When Elthana moves across to Sam, he looks over to Gewyn to see is reaction. Waiting for him to object.
Gewyn holds tightly back, feeling the prickle of invisible dragon claws along his arm up to his shoulder. Softly, he says “If this is your choice, then I will make sure it is the right one. We can have that talk later, so you’re going to have to stay alive. And me too. So stay. Learn what you can. Strengthen the alliances I have started here. And we will see you soon, one step closer to ending your nightmare.”
He makes eye contact with Vin after, and gives a solemn nod.
She looks back at Gewyn with tears in her eyes and nods back to him, "One step closer."
Vin's rigidity doesn't surprise her. But she knows fighting this would be the wrong decision. She adds to him, but loud enough for everyone to hear, "Do you know if ending my life would have destroyed this fragment of soul and Nivara could never get her hands on it... I would have done it long ago." and she squeezes him again.
As Sam responds to her, she raises her eyebrows, "No? So I don't deserve to hear the story as I know the others have? Me? I thought.." she looks down at the ring he gave her and starts twisting it around her finger, "I thought I meant more to you than that."
She sighs for a moment, but when she looks back up to him, anger fills her face. "No. This is not how we say goodbye to each other. Yes, you have made a mistake, a pretty big one at that, an apology would go a long way, but apparently you're too good for that. But you didn't let him die, you saved Muir even when you thought it wasn't him. We've all made big mistakes and have moved on from them with humility and understanding. Neferoux bit Muir just for asking questions! Vin had to stop her and even you threatened her, what kind of hypocracy is that? Hell... I killed your wife. Not only did you forgive me in almost an instant, but so did everyone else and we've moved past that."
"So no. Not to me, you're not going to tell me no. Neither of you were in your right minds, no magic or not, it isn't normal for anyone to sit and let a rat eat you. We are a disfunctional family, but damn it we work well together and I for one do not want us broken apart."
She looks over her shoulder at Shenoh and realizes the irony of her last words, "Well, after Mori is dealt with anyways."
Muir nods to Elthana appreciatively while waiting for Shenoh's answer to his questions but then Muir's mouth drops a bit at hearing Elthana mention she killed Sam's wife.
He stands there wondering why his questions got him mauled to near death while Elthana was fine....there must be lingering effects from the pendent.
Sam listens, face hardened and eyes set just to the side of her. He does his best to show no reaction until Elthana finishes.
"So," he says once she is finished. "You already know the story and have passed judgement. My retelling of it is pointless... But yes, I forgave in an instant. And without question." That said, Sam walks away towards the exit. At least until guards hold him up or some such.
"That is why I have asked for your side!" She almost yells exasperatedly. "And yes, you did. But I also asked for forgiveness. From what I have heard, you haven't even apologized. I know I did."
As Sam walks towards the exit, she grabs his arm and tries to get him to face her again, "Why don't you listen! Sometimes it feels like you just don't want to understand!"
Vin sighs as he sees Gewyn’s solemn nod and smiles sadly but with understanding at Elthana as she mentions killing herself.
He wanders over to Muir.
”If Nivara can hide a piece of her soul in a phylactery, why can’t Elthana? That way, Shenoh can keep that safe and even if Elthana is captured or killed Nivara won’t get what she needs. Then there is no reason for her to stay behind. Assuming we can find someone who knows how to do it”, he suggests hopefully to the Druid, loudly enough to be overheard.
Muir smiles “That is a fine idea Vin but if I may play the devils advocate….in the research I’ve done it seems that would mean that Elthana would be a lich herself….Quite dangerous, expensive, and time consuming not to mention…..the lich part unless there’s some other way you were thinking?”
"Ah yes, of course. The whole lich thing is always a bit of a hindrance, that is true", Vin replies. At least it felt good to get the old dynamic back.
At shenoh's orders, Ingram leads his team of griffon riders about and sets off to do his tasks, Vinghov similarly gives a salute and exits.
Whilst Elthana says her well wishes and delays the group slightly Shenoh gives one last order to Sol reiterating the groups task for those who decided to not listen. "Shut down the production, and destroy the reserves, not the other way round, see to it that missteps are kept to a minimum. That factory is an important resource which will help in the coming fight."
As Muir and Vin discuss the possibilities of safeguarding Elthana's soul, shenoh does take notice and approach. "It is good to see you trying to find ideas to save Elthana and by extension stop the threat Nivara poses. Once you return and my right arm has found and secured or neutralised Mori, I have an idea. We are a military isle, but since the opening of the portal on Akiin, certain magics have been accessible once more. Within this core the finishing touches to a teleportation contraption is being finished. One that links us to Ginro and the scientists, researchers and mages there. After your task is complete you may go there. You will undoubtedly find something to help you."
Muir nods in thanks "If you were given a Mori, it is possible that Ginro was given someone or ....something as well...." Muir lets that linger a bit in Muir fashion and looks at Vin "Well Vincent shall we then?"
Elthana's grabbing his arm doesn't slow Sam down. But her words... Her words bring him to a halt.
Sam stands motionless for a long moment. Frozen? Thinking? Who can ever really tell with the Half-Orc? When he turns back to Elthana it first appears as if there is anger in his eyes, as if he is about to blow up. But he doesn't. And after a moment of staring into his eyes she can tell they are full to the brim with moisture, that he is struggling to not let a tear drop.
"Sometimes I don't," he admits to her. "Sometimes it is easier not to. Not to understand... Not to think about it at all." Sam then looks away again but it is obvious to Elthana that he's not looking away from her but rather trying not to be seen by her while he struggles with... Emotions? Memories? Realizations? The whole swirl of complexities that he generally tries his best to ignore?
"Look we... We... You and me we're... There's a..." But Sam can't seem to find the words, the phrasing. Or perhaps he just cannot find the understanding. He looks down at his hands... He slowly mimics Elthana's movements from earlier, turning the ring he wears around and around, the paired ring to the one he had given her not so long ago. "We need to actually say some things, I think. Get them out into the open. Let them breathe. Let them take flight... or not, I guess. We have much to say to one another, I think... And damned little if any has to do with what Muir did with the rat. But the things we need to say... They need space and time and a freedom we just don't have right now."
"Soon. As soon as possible..." Sam assures. "But not right now. Not here. Not with an audience and chaos swirling around and a queen with a stick up here ass looking down on us...."

Sam scoffs.
