Muir raises an eyebrow and then smiles "Well it seems they made the right choice to put you all together then." Muir wonders aloud watching Vin's reaction "I wonder if the groups were able to put aside their petty differences or if they gave you all some sort of missions to impede on the others....Interesting to think about. Well I would be happy to travel with you all if you all will have me. I am sure Nefferfox will be thrilled to have me as a traveling companion" Muir can't help himself and pokes the "bear" one more time
Elthana watches Vin and Muir head up the tower to greet the people of Hokum. She decides to head into town and get a feel of what is going on. Looking for anything that seems out of place and/or anyone she knows.
Slowly allowing herself to feel good about what they had done. Before heading off on her own, she smiles to Gewyn, "Spirits sound good after what we've done. Tonight?"
Neferox growls with a bit of a sneer, showing her teeth off in warning or maybe not? Vin looks uncomfortable as if not sure if she's serious or joking but relays "She says she likes having emergency food on hand."
"Tonight," Gewyn grins as Elthana peels off. "Now, what to do, what to do." He genuinely contemplates the best way to occupy his time. He wouldn't be much help with any rebuilding efforts. Though his frame had the appearance of lean muscle, it was no more than that. An appearance. And though he was a performer by trade, he was used to entertaining for a few hours at a time, followed by days of sleep. He didn't have the energy to deal with a crowd. Though maybe if he found some high ground...
Gewyn starts looking around the ruined town for a high secluded place from which he could serenade the returning townspeople who now have to reckon with the state of their hometown, but also where he wouldn't be found. Somewhere hidden with decent acoustics...
Breaching the town proper, it seems that the clerics of Hermes have been hard at work since they arrived, most of the remnants of deceased towns people have been cleared from the streets, some are walking the streets moving rubble and opening up the parts of the town that had been blocked off with the fallen trees. South of the city the abandoned fields of Hokum are now home to a sea of tents and activity, everyone seems busy with something or other and as groups of clerics move around it all feels very organised and orchestrated. For the first time the group sees not only clerics in their practical vestments and garb, but also Paladins of Hermes, adorned in uniform silvered armour with large weapons, some with helms and others circlets, there seems to be some kind of hierarchy that none of the group are privvy to.
As Elthana walks the streets alone she sees some of the towns people, familiar faces that were held in the butcher's shop by the redcaps previously, their wounds healed, some of them stand talking to apparently high ranking paladins who use the town folk's insight to direct what forces need to be applied where and which places to clear and in what order.
All in all the beginnings of progress are being made. Some of the people who were with the caravan rush over to those saved earlier, others rush to the ruins of their homes, an mixture of emotion raises voices high into the air, general disquiet is the feeling that the caravan brings to the town.
Gewyn finds himself squeezing through a wedged door to find the base of the town's clock tower in a state of disrepair, as he works his way up the tower he passes some points where the walls are missing bricks and he sees out on to the town below, sees in the lingering sunlight of the dusk how much of this town has been truly lost, and it is more destruction than he has seen in his life. Making his way to the top of the tower is difficult as the stairs to the clock room have broken, and so finding a small balcony, Gewyn secludes himself above the city and begins playing. The vibrations of his song are not heard or noticed by all, but felt by many, as any magic that he weaves into the rhythm are felt in Hokum's subconscious.
Vin, Muir and Sam along with their collected animals make their way into the trade post building. Outside Muir spots his horse Snabb has been tied up to a hitching post. Inside the courtyard has been converted into a temporary eating hall and general meeting place, tables and chairs fill the open air center and there is a hustle of people packing away old maps and list of directions, apparently preparing for something now that word has gotten to them about the rest of the survivors return.
Making their way to the roof of the trade post building, those of the group in attendance, along with Goldsheaf who follows with them, find four figures overlooking the progress going on below them;
one is master Gore, hunched over his staff, he turns to greet you all with a smile,
next to him Iver sits on the roof, his armour has been taken and cast aside, replaced with bandages which cover his whole torso, he moves slowly wincing with stiffness though he looks healthy in the face, scars peek up from under the bandages, the remnants of horrible burns,
standing next to Iver is a tall severe looking elf with a tight silver ponytail and pristine robes, his eyes widen as he looks upon Muir and Muir recognises this man to be high priest Te'louim,
the last of the four figures is a green man in grand robes, he stands small, taller than a goblin and his features aren't as severe, but small nonetheless, it feels like a long time since Vin and Sam laid their eyes on this Verdan, as Ebb turns to greet them.
Muir smiles at seeing Gore and nods to those he knows before addressing Gore "Ah friend! I am so happy to see you. There's so much to talk about but how are you? How is Hirsi?"
"Hirsi is good, she's out helping, doing what she can, I couldn't stop her, kept watch half the night too, she's incorrigible, I've warned her to slow down. Myself I'm good, glad to see some help coming to those who need it, I borrowed your horse to get me here faster when I got word that the clerics were here, thought to give some direction and insight... I'll be happy to get back to the forest when this is all done." Gore gives a nod
Vin watches as many tear felt reunions happen when both groups are reunited. Loved one's thought lost now returned against all odds. Vin can't help but smile at that. He keeps an eye out for if any of the soulless have family still alive and here for them but otherwise just enjoys the feeling of seeing others happy. There was still much pain and hurt left but the people were finally back home. Vin was thankful the clerics had managed to clear most of the bodies before they got here. There was enough sadness to go around. They didn't need that as well. Vin watches for a bit before walking to go meet up with the others. Neferox in his shadow as always but curiously looking at Vin as if worried about them.
As the group disperses a little vin loses track of Gewyn and Elthana. He's sure they are fine and soon Vin can hear the distant tune of Gewyn providing a calming tune to ease tensions and carry the town with soothing music. Vin thought it wonderful. Accompanying Sam and Muir the quartet enter the tower and find the eating hall which is apparently quickly being prepared for the new arrivals to get fresh food. Vin is sure they will appreciate that. Neferox seems to loom ominously behind Vin as the crowded tower forces her to get closer to Vin to remain near or be separated by people walking around in crowds.
They make their way and Vin sees several familiar faces and one he doesn't recognize. Muir addresses Gore and begins talking. Vin is happy to see Ebb and greets them saying "It's nice to see you again Ebb. I was wondering if you'd be with the rest of the clerics. Were you able to solve the other problem then? I remember you saying it was quite urgent." Vin is being polite to Ebb but his eyes linger to the wounded Iver. Guilt filling him as the signs of severe burns on Iver show. Vin is glad to see him okay but does Iver fear him now? Blame him? Vin isn't sure he is wrong to but after polite greetings with Ebb Vin will go to address Iver. For the moment though, It is nice to see a friend like Ebb.
Muir places a hand on Gore's shoulder. "There is a lot to talk about later once everyone is here and all the leaders are gathered. Reconstructing the town and oversight of the construction will be necessary. We can speak more later with everyone. Good to see you and thanks for bringing old Snabb along for me." Muir turns and see Vin talking to someone named Ebb but decides not to interrupt their conversation. He walks over to Te'louim "Hello there High Priest Te'louim. I am glad that you all made it and acted on my warning. My companions and Hokum could have used the help a little sooner but better late than never. Thank you for coming. I am sorry I could not wait those 2 weeks but as you see Hokum was in dire need of help."
Ebb smiles at vin though it is weak, "the visions I had, of destruction both here and in Lyvander were terrible and urgent indeed, nothing has come to pass in Lyvander yet, but we hope to avert a crisis by figuring out what is going on, or went on here... I still get frequent visions" the young Verdan states as he touches a hand to his forehead, as he moves a few gems and trinkets clang gently together, it seems that since the group had last seen him, much has changed for Ebb.
"Your warning was well received master Muir, but a force such as this takes time to gather, to a certain degree I'm glad I was able to be there when Ebb here returned to us, his visions have proved much more... Enlightening!" Te'louim's words are curt and come across more like a cold and clinical statement more than anything else, he leans in toward Muir and whispers something into the loxodon's large ear.
As Vin watches he does see one or two of the soulless children reunited with family members, others have been gathered and the clerics with the survivors explain inaudibly what has happened, before the soulless are then taken inside. The mutated are also brought into the arena where it appears several of the armoured paladins begin tending to them, placing hands on deformed heads and reciting prayers and incantations, a few minutes go by and methodically each and every one of the mutated are cured of their curse by these Paladins.
Vin notices that Ebb seems a bit downtrodden. Vin feels the same, they stopped it from getting worse but it was already plenty bad enough. Vin tries to take "It was... quite awful. I hope this doesn't repeat in Lyvander. It was all we could do to save the ones that survived here in Hokum." Vin looks around at the folks gathered here. An eyebrow raised as Muir addressing the high priest but Vin just notes that away for later. He looks back to Ebb and asks, "Was this what your vision was? Cause I shudder to think what might of happened if we didn't stop it from getting worse..."
Muir watches the High Priest retract and look at Muir. Muir looks right back before changing his demeanor to a gentler tone "So what message does your speaker bring? Hopefully you are all here to help rebuild this place after we stopped the incursion....Perhaps everyone would like to go speak privately or we could do it here"
As Ebb goes to speak in answer to both Vin and Muir, Te'louim's hand gently rests on the young Verdan's shoulder and he refrains.
"Private would be appreciated" the elf states, Goldsheaf seems to sigh and then nod in agreement, "I'm sure you've found yourself a suitable place in my town, lead on."
“Ebb! Look at you, alive and well,” Sam calls out boisterously after having watched the conversation for several minutes. “I see reports of your demise have been greatly exaggerated!” Sam adds with a wink to Vin,
“Seems you’re doing alright for yourself,” Sam notes, nodding his chin towards Ebb’s bejeweled wrist. “Keeping the funds the Council sent us safe and closely guarded! Wise, wise…”
Insight check on Ebb: 7
Sam knows nothing…
“Lyvander is fine then?” Sam asks. “Despite the visions? So less visions and more just dreams then? I mean no offense old friend but… don’t visions come true?”
Sam liked Ebb well enough before he took off on the rest of them but… he did take off on the rest of them. Of course that didn’t sit entirely right. Nor did his failure to leave the monies the Council had provided. Sam isn’t convinced that and these visions are coincidental… Still, Sam has a mostly respectful view of clerics. The individuals if not the institutions. So Sam tries to walk a fine line between hostility and just giving Ebb a hard time. Perhaps not entirely successfully.
Elthana avoids looking at the ones that are mutated, the sight of them making her angry and guilty all at the same time. Not really finding anyone she has the urge to talk to, just content with seeing the movement in the right direction and hope they can move on from here soon. She does finally get a glimpse of one of the paladins curing a mutated one and she breathes a sigh of relief she didn't realize she was holding in.
She finally heads up to join the others and is surprised to see Ebb. She nods to him in greeting as she isn't really sure what else to say. She is there in time to hear a private conversation is warranted and follows the rest to wherever they go.
A bell sounds out from within the trade post arena, completely undercutting the dulcet tones that gewyn is playing over the town.
All at once the work stops, the clerics and Paladins in town look toward the trade post building and begin making their way over, the people of the town that have been here all day also begin making their way, everyone piles into the arena. One paladin inside begins handing out scrolls to a few clerics, each one goes over to a table with barrels stood next to them, reading through the scrolls each table fills with food and the barrels fill with clean fresh water, enough to nourish over 200 people.
The group is led inside one of the larger offices of the building which surrounds the arena along with Iver, Gore, and Goldsheaf. Te'louim asks that vin leave Neferox outside as they enter, he then sits at the head of a table, with Ebb to his right. As food is brought in, the rest of you are left to find your own seats at the table should you wish to sit and eat.
"I certainly appreciate the assistance, all of this really, it's quite something." Goldsheaf pipes up, but she cannot stop the concern that works it's way into her brows.
Gore merely gives an old man grunt as he sits down, taking the weight off of his lizard legs and leaning his staff against the table. Iver seems unsure as to why he is here but is relived for the seat and the food, he digs in half paying attention to the proceedings.
"As I understand it, your group went into the mountain to stop the source of this incursion" Te'louim asks looking between Sam and Elthana, "any information on what you fought and what you found will make our coming investigation and protective measures, easier to apply, you understand, I'm sure"
"For better or worse, Neferox is one of us," Sam replies to Te'Louim when they ask that the beast be left outside. "If they're barred despite all they've done then so am I. They've better manners than I do anyway..."
Sam stands outside the door and awaits the haughty elf's decision impassively. If the elf relents and allows them both inside then Sam follows Neferox inside with no sign of triumph or acheivement, merely walks in as if their entrance was just a matter of course. If the elf bars them both from entering then Sam will gives a brief nod says "Let's go find us a meal amongst friends then. I have a report to make to The Council anyway..." and starts walking away while fishing his sending stone out of his pouch.
There is a moment where Te'louim calculates something in his head, Weighing up wether the information he wants outweighs his obvious disgust at Neferox's being, "so be it, they were also with you in the mountain i suppose" with that said Te'louim looks down his nose at the demonic dog but otherwise does not argue further, letting Nef in.
Neferox bares her teeth a little toward the elf in response and sticks close to vin, though does acknowledge Sam and Muir's solidarity with a concise nod.
Gewyn strolls in fashionably late. "Is this where the party's at?" He pulls up a chair and spins it around, sitting in it backwards with his elbows on the back rest. Grabbing a nearby drink, he gives it a sniff, wrinkles his nose in disgust, and then downs a gulp.
