Seraphis sized up the silver-haired man quickly, noting his congenial smile and the partial state of dress that suggested he had also been disturbed from sleep. His gaze shifted briefly to the Leonin on the floor and then back to the man standing before him.
"I appreciate your attempt to calm the situation,"Seraphis replied, his voice steady and authoritative. "However, ensuring the safety of everyone in this inn is my concern as well." He took a step forward, his piercing blue eyes narrowing slightly. "What exactly happened here?"
His grip on the hilt of his Moonlit Longsword and shield remained firm but non-threatening, a silent reminder of his readiness. "If your friend has merely had a fright, perhaps some fresh air and water will help. But if there's more to this than meets the eye, I suggest full transparency. We're all safer when we work together."
Seraphis' expression softened slightly, though his resolve did not waver. He looked over to the strange-looking gnome and Cob, acknowledging their presence and readiness to assist. "Agreed?"
Cob watches Seraphis for a moment. If not for the situation Eremoz is in, he would find this immensely amusing.
"I don't care what concerns you," Cob says to Seraphis. "You can start by backing the hell out of our rooms. Our friend is in trouble and you barging around like everyone your size does with your sword and shield isn't going to a do a damn thing. Unless the muscles can turn back time, just stay out of the way."
He turns back to Drexon. Thinking to his friend:
"There has to be something we can do," Cob thinks.
Seraphis frowned slightly but maintained his composure. "I understand your frustration," he replied evenly. "But you have to see it from my perspective. I arrived here from Mantagard just a couple of hours ago, tired and hoping for some rest. Then after finally laying my head down, I hear a scream and rush in to find people crowded over a body. Met with immediate hostility."
He took a step back, showing he was willing to give them space but didn't leave entirely. "If you need help, don't hesitate to ask friend. Sometimes, muscle can turn the tide when least expected."
Seraphis glanced at the Leonin, then back to Cob and Drexon. "I'll stand right here and trust you right now," he added, his tone softer. With that, he sheathed his weapon and just looked at Cob.
(suggesting full transparency eh? Eremoz seems to have taken you up on that)
As the door finishes being fixed, and a collapse was mentioned, Senni perks up, and starts rummaging through a pouch. "What is the matter with your friend. I can probably help get them back on their feet. Lets see, I have some smelling salts in here somewhere. Or if you know why they collapsed, I might be able to counter it. Antivenom if bitten. Or some other potion." he pulls a little green vial out of his pocket, and little mechanical wings unfold as it takes flight. "Jade, we might have a patient, please be ready to grab some reagents."
Drexon loses his smile and his eyes briefly close as he feels a wash of emotion come over him from Cob, but the voice in his mind brings him back to the present.
He replies to Cob once again with telepathy.
"Nothing I can think of right now, the problem is in the past, or the future. I expect the only one that can help us is Jiminy, but he hasn't met us yet", he says into Cob's mind worriedly.
He then addresses the strangers in the room, after a brief glance at Amber, who seemed really deep in thought.
"Points of view are a tricky thing", he says, the smile returning to his face but certainly not reaching his eyes. "The lady here is a healer, let's give her time and space to see what she can do, but fetching her some fresh water would be one way you could help", he then says hopefully, knowing she is more than just a healer.
At mention of Mantagard, and recently arrived too, he checks over the larger newcomer. Looking for any sigil's or signs of a faction, wondering if he has been sent to enact some form of retribution.
Perception / Investigation: 4+5 / 2=9 / 6 (Passive: 15 / 12) - (DM take your pick on the necessary skill to use)
Cob flies up a bit in the room so that his eyes are at eye level with Seraphis. He doesn't speak, just indicates with two fingers pointed at his own eyes then at Seraphis that Cob is watching the big man.
To Drexon
"Okay. That's something. Emeroz is somewhere still. We'll find him. Just maybe not now. Once we get these kids dealt with we can go back to finding a way home." He pauses then adds "Big and beefy here seems to have a hero complex going. He could come in useful if we have to fight our way on or off the ship. And the gnome's pretty handy. And we don't have time to mess around. We need to get going now."
On the taller person's shield Drexon notices a familiar sigil. It is of a sword with a golden blade. It is not exactly the same as the sigil of House Clarent, having more ornaments and different colours in some part, but this person is clearly connected with them to carry nearly the same sigil.
At the same time of Drexon's observation of the newcomers, Amber snaps out of her stupor. She looks at Eremoz's nearly faded body and hisses, "Quiet!"
Everyone in the room stops making a noise and listens. Faintly, as if swept away by the wind outside, the rings of bells can be heard. Looking out the window, the Cobalt Restitution is slowly opening its sail as it begins to undock from the harbour.
Senni whispers "Oh I am sorry. Have you got children asleep here too? I hope me bashing the door down didn't wake them." he thinks for a second. "Miss Healer, are you sure you don't need any assistance other than water. I can get a quick healing potion created if you are of need of some magical healing to help. I take it that this is a serious injury seeing as I am pretty sure that you screamed, being the only female present." He notices Eremoz for the first time, "Is there even a real patient? That is a magical projection, you can see through them. Pretty lousy illusion if you ask me."
Cob grabs his pack and fiddle, throws open the window then looks back at the group.
"Forget about him. Either Amber can help or no one can," Cob says to Senni. "There are children who have been kidnapped and the best we know is they're on that ship that's making ready to leave right now. We could really use both of your help."
He looks to Drexon. "See you there."
Then Cob jumps out the window and flies towards the ship at full speed.
Drexon gives Cob a salute, refreshing the telepathic link as the Fairy exits out the window, before turning back to the two newcomers once again.
"What is your name, soldier?", he says to Seraphis, emphasising the word soldier as a question within a question, a guess. "I see the sigil of House Clarent on your shield, or close enough. We are allies of theirs, and have recently done a good deed for them. We could use your help in return. We can use any help we can get now", he says looking back at the transparent form of their Leonin companion.
"There are indeed more urgent matters, and if you both would truly wish to lend us your aid, we have to get on the ship that is about to leave. There are children's lives at stake", he says urgently.
Senni sends Jade flying off with Cob so that he's not alone (not that it can do much when with cob. It can only attack if I command it, and it can't relay things to me. But it's the thought that counts). "That sounds terrible. Of course I will help." and he immediately runs to his room, grabs his bag which is packed already (he never unpacked when he arrived) and heads downstairs going to the bar "Consider my room free if I don't return by the evening. Apparently there are kidnapped children to rescue." (said loud enough that anyone who may or may not be listening in the bar could overhear if they were keeping an ear out for interesting conversation) and he heads out the door heading for the docks.
Seraphis straightened up, his gaze shifting to Senni as he identified himself as a doctor. As he just listened it became obvious this was the group he was looking for.
He then turned to Drexon, his expression earnest."I am Seraphis Dagonet, of House Dagonet and knight of House Clarent.” He says giving a quick bow with his arm across his chest “I recognize your urgency and I want to assure you, I'm here to help. Lady Zelena has sent me specifically to assist in your endeavors, of course I’m assuming you’re the ones that helped her from how you’re talking. Either way if the innocent are in danger I’m obliged to help.”
Seraphis took a deep breath and continued, "I understand that tensions are high, but I’m here to give aid. Let us work together. Time is of the essence."
Drexon watches the gnome scurry off as Seraphis introduces himself.
"Lady Zelena sent you, huh? And a knight no less", he replies. "Ok, the names Drexon, this is Amber and that was Cob", he says first motioning to Amber and then out the window.
"Let me grab my stuff quickly, and I can fill you in more on the way", he adds and disappears through the adjoining door, glancing briefly down at Eremoz's body as he goes.
After a few moments, he returns now also wearing boots, an undone waistcoat and cravat, a long overcoat and a wide brimmed hat with a blue and white feather. He obviously didn't have time to dress properly, but at least he has everything.
"You staying with Eremoz, or coming with us?", he asks Amber. "And where did that other fellow go?", he asks Seraphis.
The others folded their cards to the raise and McGee raked in the coin with a smirk. Snatching up the coin that had caught his eye he did a quick examination and sure enough it was like the other - a coin which shouldn't exist. At least not yet. Once his winning have been set to rights McGee focused on the singular coin and performed a little bit of magic. Locate Object to be precise, using the newly won coin as a focus to try to find another that came from whence it did... It didn't take long for his attention to once again be pulled upstairs. "Go figure," he mutters to himself but in just the moment it takes to strap on his blades the location is moving... Now outside and heading for the water.
Had they taken a window out? McGee wondered to himself. Could they possibly know he is on their trail? How?
"Apparently there are kidnapped children to rescue." McGee hears and turning his head he sees a darkly shaded gnome seems to have been the speaker. He's torn on pursuing the coin and helping children... He's not always a helper but children? They are always the exception. Luckily though both leads seem to be heading in the same direction... Could it be the gnome is with those who brought the coin? McGee follows and figures he'll decide what to do once a decision must be made...
"Yes, she hoped I'd be of use to you all since I was on a mission when everything else you assisted with occurred. I think he chased after your friend and began his way towards the boat. I'll grab my pack along the way I'm only a few doors down near the stairs." he says waiting for Drexon to gather his things and Amber to respond to Drexon's question.
With only Drexon in the room with Amber, Amber stops him before they follow Cob and the others.
"Your friend is not gone," Amber says. "Something must have happened here in the past that caused such a change that your friend never truly followed you. It's why he is now being slowly erased. Over time, the people he met in passing will not remember what he is like because he is technically never in the past. I won't forget him because of my ability, but there may be a day you will. But, then again, I get the feeling that you and Mr Goodfellow appear to be more resistant to time. Because of your inherent magical abilities, or, in the case of Mr Goodfellow, his ancestry."
The distance to the ship is quite a long way. The inn is roughly 700 feet away. By the time Cob and the others arrive, the ship is already about 120 feet away from the harbour. The sail is still a quarter way up, but it is slowly being raised. It wouldn't take long before you won't be able to catch the ship even if you swim or fly.
Looking around, it is Seraphis and Drexon who clock a dwarven man in a striped shirt and a felt hat having a loud discussion with what you can only guess is the harbourmaster.
"You need to stop that ship!" The man insists for the umpteenth time. "I already said to you that I saw children there. Many children without their parents. Something is not right with that ship. I know what I saw!"
"Sir, I've checked the manifest again and again, but I see no mention of children," the harbourmaster sighs. "The harbour security also already searched the ship before departure and found nothing untoward. You've been at sea for more than a month now, Lorgar. Go home and get some sleep." The harbourmaster leaves the dwarven man alone and returns to his office.
The dwarven man beelines toward where the group originally came from, toward the part of the harbour where smaller vessels are docked. Along the way, Seraphis and Drexon can hear him muttering about mounting a rescue on his own.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Desperate to slow the ship down at all, Cob musters the new found ancestral energy coursing through his blood to suddenly disappear and reappear 30' closer to the ship. As soon as he reappears, his hand is already moving across the strings of his fiddle. The sound of the energy building across the strings can be heard back at the dock. As soon as enough has eldritch power has gathered, it leaps forward towards the main sail of the ship, hoping to damage it enough to slow the ship down.
The eldritch energy sails past the main sail of the Cobalt Restitution. The crew becomes alert at the sudden blast of energy near their ship. Some of them start to pull out bows and crossbows from below the deck to defend themselves.
Despite the failure, with a new vantage point high in the air, Cob spies a barrier reef and a partially sunken peninsula that would slow down the ship further about 500 feet away. Cob could easily traverse the distance with his wings, but the others may have a chance of helping him if they are to start making their way toward the peninsula now. They can board when the ship nears. However, if they fail to make it, the only chance they have of catching the ship is by another ship.
McGee, seeing the blue fairy suddenly blink out of existence and reappear quite a distance further is quite a marvel. That's teleportation magic, something that has never been done by a humanoid without severely injuring or killing themselves according to any literature you've read. This group is not as normal as they appear to be.
Drexon smiles at Amber, "I had figured as much as well. There is one who might be able to help our friend, but right now we are powerless, and need to move fast".
With that he rushes out the door, noticing Amber is following behind. Linking up with Seraphis, he rushes down the stairs and out the door, moving quicker than most would have imagined he could, but he slows when he reaches the gnome so he can speak to both him and Seraphis.
"We have a Warrant of Investigation from the Rangers at Erdelun for finding and rescuing kidnapped children, that we believe are on the boat leaving now. It is a very sinister business involving nasty ritualistic magic. But we must be careful, the perpetrators are part of a powerful organisation and any help you give us will mark you as an enemy of theirs", he says as they travel. As they reach the area where the harbourmaster and Lorgar are arguing, Drexon takes note of the Dwarf as a potential ally, and he is about to head to him when he spots Cob blink from one spot to another and attempt to blast the ship's sails.
He reaches out into the Fairy's mind.
"Do we have a chance of catching the ship, or do we need a vessel of our own?".
