"Ravensblood, why are you down here may I ask. And Who were you talking too? It seems you're as quiet as a rolling boulder. We might be able to help defend you from, what you were running from."
Eglar says quietly

'Frederick' looked at Eglar and the rest of the party for a moment before taking a breath. "I came down here to see if I could help the guards posted down here. I know it must come as a surprise but I was talking with myself, although in all honesty I was hoping that somebody else was down here and they would find me before those things did again. Normally I'm not this loud, I promise."
{With a 14 Eglar can tell that this 'Frederick' fellow hasn't been telling the whole truth. Although he seems genuine about not being Xavword or knowing where he is you get the sense that he may have lied about his name.}
Watching suspiciously, Flutter sifts through the new arrival's words, especially those about the whereabouts of Xavword.
Insight: 16
{With a 16 Flutter can tell that he's being truthful about his lack of knowledge when it comes to Xavword's location and although it's not fully apparent in his actions but there was a hint of worry in his voice.}
Ludolf listens for a moment, looking at his companions, “That sounds like a load of sh..”
"That certainly isn't Xavword but I believe that Ludolf is right. I don't recall ever meeting anyone by the name of Frederick Ravenblood while in town but he does look familiar..." Andnon said tilting his head slightly as he looked at the stranger.
Karrigg notes Ludolph's words and calls out. "You are hurt. Come out, there's safety in numbers. More in knowledge. What's down here with us?"
'Frederick' hesitates for a moment as he looked down at the scratches and bites that he'd received earlier and nodded slightly. "I wish that were not the case but I am. There are ghouls, ghasts, giant rats and the occasional vampire spawn." He replied before hesitantly approaching the group.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
I'd like Karrigg to use the opportunity to turn around as though looking for ghouls, ghosts, etc and cast Mage Hand behind 'Frederick'. As he turns back around, he'll try to use the invisible hand to pick Frederick's pockets, to reveal anything that might be more telling of his purpose down here
I figured this could be either a deception or stealth to disguise what exactly he's doing as he casts the spell. At my table, I rule that casting a spell really can't be done stealthily, but I thought I might obfuscate the purpose of my casting. 4 +6 for deception, or +10 for stealth.
And then the sleight of hand for rifling through his stuff 21
'Frederick' doesn't seem to notice as Karrigg casts mage hand behind him. As the hand slips into his pocket he takes a breath but doesn't look back to see what had caused it. "I should have put a good distance between myself and the ghast that attacked me but it might be best if we don't leave ourselves open for attacks."
In 'Frederick's' pockets there is a Corpse slayer dagger, a small crystal that looks like it could be used for casting, a small pouch that seems to contain some coins, several regular daggers and a letter with the Stoneclaw crest on it.
”We have come to find Xavword at the behest of his father. If you truly wish him to be saved, you can start by being fully truthful, that we might know if we can trust you,” says Flutter.

Karrigg will leave everything but the letter in place. That he pulls out and holds above the man for now, just to keep it out of view until he can collect it discreetly.
"You fought the thing. Can we take it all together?"
Ludolf gets him into plain view and uses his helm of telepathy to detect the thoughts of “Frederick”, saying “Come now, please be more forthcoming. Your survival of this day may be dependent on it.” giving a clear indication of the need to stop mincing words and come out with what he knows and his true name and story. 'Frederick' paused for a moment and nodded slightly in response before placing his hands together. Even though he knows that Ludolf is rummaging around in his mind he appears to be relatively calm. "My real name is Victor Lowclaw. I swear on my life that whatever you've heard about me isn't entirely true. I'm no bandit, I had no part in the killing of Lord Darkbranch and I had nothing to do with the increase of undead in the city. Two days after Lord Darkbranch's death I stepped down from my position as captain of the guards and fabricated a story for Sir Stoneclaw to tell in case people questioned why I 'retired'. Perhaps I went a little overboard with the story."
Victor's thoughts: 'My family probably hates me because of it, but it was the only way. They never would have let me go through with this if they knew the truth but at least they'll be safer this way.'
'If Xavword is down here... then we need to find him before something awful happens to him. He was one of the few people who still trusted me after the stories began to circulate around the city.'
Being suspicious, and hearing the name Vampire thrall. Eglar with his back turned to the newcomer. retrieves a flask out of his pack drips the holy water on his hand and moves close enough to splash some on Frederick by flicking his hand at Frederick.
Victor looked slightly confused as the holy water was flicked at him. "Good thinking, I would have done the same thing if I was in your shoes. Can't really be to careful when it comes to dealing with possible vampire."

"It was injured so it should be easier to take then it was when I first encountered it. But there might be another one nearby... I heard what sounded like one of Xavword's 'secret' tunnels open up and if it's the one I think it is then we might be in for a fair bit of trouble."

"Good, I was worried that he might go back on his word after a while. Well it's good that we have a common goal. Right..." He trailed off and took a breath as he thought about what he had been asked. "Well whoever orchestrated the killing of Lord Darkbranch is quite skilled at covering their tracks and part of me wants to say that whoever's behind it might be working with one of the syndicates in Ghostguard. I might be grasping at straws with that but it wouldn't be the first time they've been involved with something like this. Do you think I'd intentionally do this to myself if I wasn't trying to? I know I may have gone a little far but if it meant being able to find and bring them to justice then I was prepared to do whatever it took, within reason of course." He paused for a moment and glanced towards Andnon for a moment before nodding slightly. "Although we've never properly had the pleasure of meeting I use to see him spending time with Xavword every so often when he was younger. It brought back memories of when I was younger and I'd... it's not really important, sorry for going off on a little tangent like that."

There's a small part of me that probably thought that if I was to died while down here I wouldn't want my family to be sad about it and if they were to hate me then they probably wouldn't feel saddened by my passing. "You were tracking a dragon? I haven't seen any down here in ages... although near the beginning of the week I did cross paths with a blue dragonborn although in comparison to the other blue dragonborns I've met in the past this one was rather pale. He was quite curious as to if Xavword was investigating the killing. I told that I doubted it but he seemed skeptical of my answer. Although if there is a dragon roaming down here perhaps it's a member of the Stoneclaw family? It wouldn't surprise me any if I'm being honest. If that's the case then maybe they'll take you up on your offer."
Karrigg is mentally sifting the information to separate wheat from chaff, and locks onto a bit.
"Take us to the secret tunnel and fill us in on the way."
Victor took a breath and straightened up slightly. "Alright but it might be best if we arm ourselves just in case we run into any trouble on the way there. You don't want to end up caught off guard, it's not fun being clawed at and bitten by someone. Definitely when said someone was once an ally of your's." He said before slowly pulling out his dagger.
