"Purr-fect! See that collateral damage you guys? That's what I'm talking about!" Eris cheerfully yelps to her simulation crewmates as the front ballista shatters into a gazillion pieces. "'Onto stage 2 of the plan-" Eris begins as she witnesses a new Githyanki captain cleaning fresh blood. "Ooh that doesn't look good... seems like the previous one has perished. No matter! Aim for the main frame! Front and centre! And target the area where the captain is standing! Now!"

Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Seria (Female Dragon-In-Disguise Sorcerer, Draconic Bloodline)
Princess keeping her flight steady, watches the fight progress and grimaces. It was going to be too close, they needed something decisive, but nothing was coming to mind. For lack of anything better to do, she maintains her song as well.

[The Githyanki crew are before you, but before that:]
As an asteroid passes overhead, casting a shadow on the deck, you hear a scream from the main deck. Turning their ship-wide attention to the area, Princess sees one of the guards outside the helm cabin lying dead on the deck. For a moment it isn't apparent how, but as the asteroid spins away you notice that part of the wall is still in shadow, almost as if cast by some creature standing over the crewmate's body. Then it moves toward the second guard, and it becomes clear that the shadow isn't of the attacker, the shadow itself is the attacker.
[Princess, read this if either your passive perception or a Perception check beats 11]:
You spot a second shadow creeping across the sterncastle.

[Squid ship Attack phase:]
The Squid ship's remaining ballista continues to fire, targeting the weapon that even now Eris is turning toward midships. [Ballista vs ballista: 21 for 7 piercing damage]
The githyanki crew that had been operating the destroyed ballista take up crossbows and take shots at your crew. [Light crossbow vs Da'Kal: 4 for 3 piercing damage Light crossbow vs Eris: 8 for 6 piercing damage Light crossbow vs Crew 1: 22 for 4 piercing damage Light crossbow vs Crew 2: 13 for 2 piercing damage]
Eris aims the ballista toward the enemy ship, but before she can fire, a bolt from the enemy's weapon slams into it, destroying it! Jumping out of the way of the debris, Eris and one of the crewmates also take glancing blows from crossbows, which combined with previous injuries, is enough to put the crewmate on the deck. [Eris, keep the nat 20 to apply to some other action/attack]
[Foundling crew is up! Eris, Icarus and Da'Kal, you now seem to have a second threat to deal with...]

[Does Toll the Dead require line of sight? Similar to the Hammerhead, the Squid ship's helm is in the enclosed space under the sterncastle, so I think it would be hard for you to see the spelljammer. I can offer you a number of targets on deck who are missing some hit points: the "new captain" (previously known as "crew 7" on my list), any of the aft ballista crew (crew 4 through 6) and crew 2 (one of the forward ballista crew until it was destroyed). They all have the same +0 Wis so I guess it's moot if I make the save: 11]
[Well the bad news is Icarus now has one fewer injured targets on the deck to choose from...]
Da'Kal triggers the second succession of the githyanki captaincy in as many minutes, when she skewers the incumbent right through the chest with a javelin!

[Eris isn't back for another couple of days, so to keep us moving I'll apply her crit with her pistol to one of the aft ballista crew for now, and using the first two of the damage dice she rolled, that's easily enough to get the kill; Eris if you want to retcon this when you're back let me know.]
Eris puts a bullet right through the forehead of one the githyanki, while Icarus casts a spell at another. The latter clutches their chest and seem like they're about to collapse, but just manages to stay of their feet [with 1 hp].
The remaining guard outside the helm cabin and one of the crossbow crew attack the shadow that just killed their comrade, while the other three continue to fire on the remaining aft ballista crew. [Scimitar vs shadow: 4 for 4 slashing damage Light crossbow vs shadow: 15 for 6 piercing damage Light crossbow vs aft ballista crew: 18 for 8 piercing damage Light crossbow vs aft ballista crew: 5 for 5 piercing damage Light crossbow vs aft ballista crew: 5 for 4 piercing damage]
As their short-lived captain and two of the aft ballista crew go down, the githyanki seem unsure of their next move. Then one appears to spot the shadows on your deck attacking your crew, and the squid ship starts to pull away from you, presumably intending to let the shadows kill you all and come back to plunder the corpses.
[Range: 80ft (still in ballista range but also now in mangonel range)]
[Foundling Maneuvering phase: Zoide and Princess up; do you give chase to the other ship, or let it go and focus on the shadows? Also as a reminder, the captain can use their normal actions in addition to giving general orders.]
[Posting may be spotty over the next few days, as I imagine a few people's will be.]
Secret new initiative: 14
[Squid ship Maneuver:]
The new captain yells, "Keep up the pressure! Take out that ballista!"
[Foundling Maneuver; Zoide then Princess up]
