Tarok awakens from his exhaustion-induced waking slumber.
"Bandits and Undead both appearing in a small town at the same time? Seems unlikely. Could these undead have been raised by Glasstaff?" he says to nobody in particular. "We should check out those ruins before long. On the the Sleeping Giant next?" he inquires.
Daran bids you adieu as you once again make your way past Barthen's Provisions, the shrine in the Town Green, and the Stonehill Inn, this time taking the road to the east end of town. An ancient manor covers the skyline further east - more a castle than a house.
The Sleeping Giant is a ramshackle taproom. Four human ruffians linger on the covered porch, perched on empty ale barrels or leaning against the wall. They all wear grimy scarlet cloaks, their sullen stares fixed on you as you approach.
One of the thugs spits on the ground. "Well, well," he snarls. "Here's a whole pack of little puppies. What do you want, puppies? Come here to bark at us?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Bark? Nope." Cinis said, tossing a Fire Bolt right at the one who spoke without any further provocation. He seemed a bit more on edge than before and a bit more hostile, also. Regardless, the tiny mote of flame was more of a challenge than an actual attack.
It's quite obvious that a fight is brewing, and as Cinis begins his spell casting, the ruffians suddenly launch themselves off of the barrels and across the dusty road, drawing shortswords and launching a coordinated assault. Taking their chances on being outnumbered, three rush like bulls into the fray, each picking a dancing partner in Argos, Tarok, and Sildar. The fourth occupies himself with both Cinis and Nemean, lashing out at each.
Attack Rolls:
Redbrand Ruffian 1: Shortsword Attack at Argos: 14 Shortsword Attack at Argos: 11
Redbrand Ruffian 2: Shortsword Attack at Sildar: 18 Shortsword Attack at Sildar: 20
Redbrand Ruffian 3: Shortsword Attack at Tarok: 8 Shortsword Attack at Tarok: 5
Redbrand Ruffian 4: Shortsword Attack at Cinis: 17 Shortsword Attack at Nemean: 20
Argos deftly steps aside of a stab to the left, then quickly sucks in his gut to dodge a second.
The second ruffian sneaks past Sildar's armor for a cut, dealing 7 piercing damage before lunging back in, missing the warrior.
Tarok, though physically exhausted, dodges lazy stabs from the inebriated ruffian engaged with him.
The last ruffian stabs Cinis as he unleashes his fire bolt, dealing 5 piercing damage, then wildly swings at Nemean, missing.
Turn 1 Order: Redbrand Ruffians Players <===== Argos, Nemean and Tarok are up
The bolt of fire streaking across the battlefield from the hands of Cinis grazes the Redbrand who had taunted him (the one engaged with Argos). Sildar draws his longsword, and quickly stains its fine polish with the blood of two deep slashes, as the Redbrand in front of him clutches at the wounds.
Tracking: Argos is engaged with a Redbrand. Cinis and Nemean are engaged with a Redbrand. Sildar is engaged with a Redbrand. Tarok is engaged with a Redbrand. All participants in battle are in range of each other, except for Tarok, who can only reach the Redbrands engaged with himself or Cinis/Nemean.

As the fight starts to brew, Argos begins to speak to try and defuse the situation, but as it jumps into action he quickly realizes that the fight is happening regardless of what he says. He draws his shortsword, and quickly chants some arcane words, casting Hunter's Mark on the Redbrand engaged with him. He then jabs his shortsword towards the Redbrand.
Tarok draws his great sword. "I must admit, I was hoping you'd do something stupid like this." he says, swinging his sword at the closest ruffian.
Attack: 5 Damage: 11
OOC: Thanks. Sorry all, I've been tied up at work, but I should have got a post or two in to let you know I was still around. I think Tarok needs another night at the inn before he's combat effective though.
OOC: Attack rolls aren't at disadvantage for Tarok, just ability checks. You were able to sleep off that third level of exhaustion last night. Using the first roll for that attack.
The ruffian smacks the sword away and steps aside the swing, flashing a toothy grin. "Stupid is leaving the Redbrands, half-orc. You think you're too good for us?"
Turn 1 Order: Redbrand Ruffians Players <===== Nemean is up
Redbrand Ruffian 1: Shortsword Attack at Argos: 16 Shortsword Attack at Argos: 17
Redbrand Ruffian 2: Shortsword Attack at Sildar: 13 Shortsword Attack at Sildar: 19
Redbrand Ruffian 3: Shortsword Attack at Cinis: 6 Shortsword Attack at Cinis: 21
Redbrand Ruffian 4: Shortsword Attack at Tarok: 17 Shortsword Attack at Tarok: 22
Turn 2 Order: Redbrand Ruffians <===== Players
The furious assault continues as Argos is pressed hard by the Redbrand in front of him. The glint of steel sparkles in his eye as one stab narrowly misses, and a follow-up thrust places a thin cut for 3 piercing damage.
Sildar Parry: 3
Sildar steps aside of a thrust from his Redbrand, but a second strike slips past his attempted parry, dealing 6 piercing damage.
The Redbrand between Cinis and Nemean laughs as he swats away Nemean's scimitars, then thrusts wide of Cinis, turning the blade back to strike for 4 piercing damage.
"You should have never shown your face 'round 'ere again, half-orc" the last Redbrand states menacingly as he casually places two new wounds in Tarok, first a small cut dealing 3 piercing damage, then a hefty stab in the leg, dealing 8 piercing damage.
Sildar slices a thin line into his Redbrand's throat, striking his jugular and spilling his blood onto the road below. Before the man's lifeless body has hit the ground, Sildar has already found a gap in the defenses of the man attacking Cinis.

After the ruffian fighting him fell to Sildar's sword, Cinis put some distance between himself and the Redbrands. When he had gotten to what he considered a good distance away, he called upon that dark energy once again, this time fueling an Eldritch Blast instead of a Hellish Rebuke, and directed it at the Redbrand fighting Tarok.
