"I say let's go ask Delfen then. Maybe the scroll can give us more insight to what we found in the cave, and maybe even more about the group down there. Who knows? Maybe we can have lunch and tea together." Cybele suggests, looking from Meiki to Seraphina.
"As good a place to start as any! And certainly better than travelling all the way to Waterdeep in the hopes of getting into the college libraries and stumbling upon something, or someone, helpful! Let's get some lunch first, though. I wouldn't count on a powerful wizard to offer us anything." He says, then looks down at his dirty and insect-goo covered clothes. "Maybe clean up a bit, too..."
(OK - free play time! Describe our lunch together and walking through Daggerford to Delfen's tower. Once you get there, you will be met first by an obstinate jerk - I mean student - who seems a bit too full of himself. You'll need to somehow convince him to let you up to speak with Delfen. Make any rolls you think your story calls for. Meiki will happily support and add color commentary =)
Seraphina's stomach rumbles at the mention of food and she blushes. "Well, I think my stomach would agree that food is first in order." She looks around as they enter Daggerford, "You'll have to help me out though, I am unfamiliar with this town. Do you two have a favorite spot for lunch? Could really use some ale as well after dealing with those scoundrels."
Meiki smiles and replies to Serpahina, "Well, the adventurers and soldiers usually go to the Lady Luck - the walls are decorated with weapons, armor, and trophies various patrons have brought back from their battles. There is also a large stone column set in the middle of the floor with the unique symbols of patrons who have died in battle or disappeared on a quest inscribed on it."
"Local farmers and townsfolk often visit The Happy Cow for meals and some stress relief. It's a pleasant tavern run by a halfling, Fulbar Hardcheese. Both have good food, but different tastes."
"Ooh, I think the Happy Cow might be best if we are to invite Delfen. Or we can have a picnic, what would you all prefer?" Cybele asks as she starts to walk back towards town and Delfen's tower.
Meiki pats Cybele on the shoulder. "Ah, Cybele...always thinking the best of everyone. Why would a powerful wizard go to the farmer's tavern? He's more likely to frequent the River Shining tavern. This is the main entertainment center for the nobility and the major notables of Daggerford. The duke and his sister have been known to eat here, and the main hall of the tavern doubles as the meeting room for the Council of Guilds! Still, I guess we can ask - if we get to see him. Let's stop in the Lady Luck tavern and get cleaned up, though. They'll let you do that since you sing there most of the time, right?"
The tavern keep is happy to oblige your request to get cleaned up, especially when Cybele starts to relay some of their adventuring story. He asks her to promise to make a song about the adventure and sing it one night soon... (When you are ready, please describe how you plan to ask for Delfen's help. See post #124 above.)
Seraphina looks around in awe at the Lady Luck. Drinking in all the weapons, armor and trophies decorating all the walls. She leaves the others to get a better look, perusing the walls for a bit. When she hears the others are about to get cleaned up, she heads back over to join them, wanting the guts of the queen washed off of her.
"So this Delfin, he's a powerful wizard eh? I've never met any of the sort. When would be a good time to call on them? And should we bring any sort of gift?"
Cybele says her goodbyes and waves to the tavern keep to rejoin the others once she's all cleaned up. She listens thoughtfully to on Seraphina's questions as she ponders the best way to approach this. "If he is this esteemed wizard, should we maybe get some fancier clothes? And a gift would be a good idea! Meiki, what else do you know about him? Do you know what his personality is like? Or perhaps anything about his daily routine?" She wonders allowed, occasionally waving to the regulars as they come in, smiling at them and saying their hello's. Then stopping abruptly before then digging into her bag to see if she had any gifts to suite a wizard. "Now, what in the world would a wizard even like? Should we make him a cake?"
Meiki shrugs. "I'm just a druid - more comfortable out in the woods with animals than with nobles or wizards. But I've never heard anything bad about Delfen - most say he is a happy-go-lucky human who gladly teaches new generations of wizards. And who doesn't like cake? Maybe we can buy one?"
The young druid is interrupted by a shriek coming from a guest sitting near one of the open windows. All heads whip around to see what the commotion is about, and you quickly spot the reason for the reaction. A giant centipede has crawled through the opening and is surveying the common room of the tavern!!
Seraphina smiles at the idea of getting the wizard a cake. Meiki is right, who doesn't like cake? "Is there a bakery or something along those lines nearby? I'm excited to meet this happy-go-lucky human!"
She spins as the others do, and in one fluid movement, she stands and draws her sword.
Initiative? Cause Seraphina is going to attack... 20
Cybele jumps up in shock, with a small pang of guilt and worry, wondering if this was her charmed centipede "friend" who was now on a search for her for revenge. And if that was true, she'd just endangered every one here.
She doesn't immediately engage in combat, but quickly runs to push guests and the tavern keep back and away from the fight. Even those who looked able-bodied enough to help in the fight, just feeling like she owes them to protect them as much as she could since she thought it was her fault the centipede was here!
Once the few people around her she'd managed to push back in such a short amount of time were far enough to her liking, she drew out her darts and readied them in hand.
She hoped her aim would be a little better than with her bow!
Gripping the darts in her hand she tries her best to run past the centipede and out the door, hoping it would follow her.
"Hey buddy! Remember me? I've always been nice to you, right? No hard feelings?"
Seraphina watches amused as Cybele tries to get the centipede to follow her out the door. She places herself between the centipede and as many of the people as she can, readying an attack against it if it doesn't chase after Cybele.
(Let me know if you want me to roll the attack now or wait till the action triggers)
Meiki joins Seraphina in sheperding the other tavern folk away so they don't come between Cybele and her new 'pet.' Most of the townsfolk are a hardy lot, gripping daggers or small clubs and readying for a fight if needed. With a little explanation they quietly back away, waiting to see what happens.
The giant centipede, after entering through the window, moved its head from side to side, clearly 'looking' for something. When it hears Cybele - or maybe it smells? - it click-clacked its mandibles and scurried directly at her! Then it rubbed its head on her thighs, like a big puppy! The tavern exhaled a sigh of relief in unison, followed by twitter of nervous laughing, and finally a hearty laugh from several farmers.
(Cybele, describe your reaction/actions, and give me an Animal Handling check =) We'll wrap up lunch in the tavern and move to Delfen's tower next, cake in hand. Everyone, subtract 5 silver from your pouches for lunch and the cake!)
Cybele tenses as the arthropod approaches, and holds her breath, then letting out it a big sigh of relief at the centipede rubbing against her legs. Then remembering herself and the staring eyes, she turns red and brings her hand to her neck in embarrassment. "Sorry everyone," she calls out, waving her hands dismissively, trying to play it cool. She hoped this didn't scare anyone too much. And that it didn't affect her tips!
After they finished lunch and purchased the cake, Cybele wonders to herself how she might convince this student to let them up to see Delfen. Should she lie? She isn't much of a liar, but they could say they were making a cake delivery for him. But she didn't want to lie, and that wouldn't get them in the good book of the student and wizard either. Maybe they should just tell the truth. Perhaps showing the student the scroll would be enough. They are scholars after all. Often the best tool of persuasion with these types of people is the temptation of knowledge.
Anywho, she wouldn't exactly know the best way to play it until she got to see and engage with the student herself! Her words had gotten things to go her way many times before, she'd just have to bet on that. Who knows, her friends could have an elaborate plan brewing up in their brain right at this moment!
The trio make their way through Daggerford, one person carrying a cake on a wooden plate and wrapped loosely with a clean cloth to keep the dust and little bugs out of the frosting. A giant centipede skitters along next to Cybele, drawing startled gasps from all on the road. As they go, the bard feeds it bits of an old sausage, which the creature eagerly snaps up in its mandibles. It seems a new pet may have been found!
Soon enough they reach the tall stone tower built into the northern wall near the keep and the Farmer's Gate. The first story contains a stable with a mule munching on some hay and several crates and barrels. A stone staircase leads up to a sturdy wooden door on the next level, currently cracked open to let the warm afternoon air flow through the tower. You hear the sounds of two or three people on the inside talking about the esoteric differences between moonbeams here and in the feywild. One of them, a beautiful elf girl in red and gold wizard robes, notices you standing in the doorway and scoffs. "Oh look, three more vagabonds come to lick the master's boots. Begone, or I'll turn you into toads and let the cat loose to chase your bumping butts around the Commons..."
"Hello there!" Cybele chirps, as if they had greeted the three in an equally friendly manner, ignoring their sneers. "We just wanted to see if Delfen would be interested in helping us translate this scroll in exchange for having some tea and cake together. Why don't you join us as well? We have plenty of cake to share! I'm not much of a sweets person myself, but nothing beats a piece of cake with a cup of tea!" Cybele smiles at the student hopefully.
"And I have a pet centipede!"
(Persuasion check: 17 sorry idk why i didnt roll to begin with!)
