After the battle, Nikolai will approach Chara. "Thank you, for healing me back there. I've never really had anyone do me a favor like that since I can remember. I've been on my own a long time. It was very kind of you. I'm .... sorry that I made you feel self-conscious before. I hope you can forgive me."
Lenn, rushing to attack, notices a raised root and steps around it during his charge. This allows him to maintain momentum as he charges, using the extra force to drive his blade through the wolf’s neck, killing it.
(Onika, you are welcome to fire that rock at the last wolf if you like (assuming it’s in range) or to do something completely different)
Moving before the hole in the rock, Chara sees a small pile of bones and flesh. Many of the bones have been broken, so you are not able to identify the animal they come from (you may learn more with an ability check).
Eithne seems to remember that with constant vigilance it is possible to tame a wolf.
...Eithne seems to remember that with constant vigilance it is possible to tame a wolf.
Eithne seems to remember that, with constant vigilance, it is possible to tame a wolf. All in all, how did the dogs come about, if not from the domestication of wolves? So she shouts: "Wait! Spare the surrendering she-wolf and the cubs! We have won already! We'll keep them with us and tame them! That way, we will avoid useless butchery and they not only will never harm villagers anymore, they will also help us in our goals".
"Obviously, if over time they prove impossible to tame," sighs the savage stranger "we will simply take them down. But at least we will have tried to get the best out of a story in which there has already been enough blood spilled".
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(OOC: I'll go with an Investigation check for this one)
Investigation: 16
As Chara kneels over the pile of bone and flesh, trying to discern whether or not these are the remains of the child, she hears Nikolai's words. She looks up at him and does her best to smile in spite of the grim task at hand.
"You have nothing to apologize for" she says to the half-elf. "I'm usually a little bit self-conscious anyway. Honestly I'm just glad no one threw a flask of holy water in my face the instant they saw that I'm a devil."
Chara pauses for a moment, then stands up to speak to continue speaking with Nikolai. If the body does belong to the child, there's little that Chara can do for her right now.
"Honestly, looking around at this group, I think most of us have probably been alone far too long. But we have to learn to rely on each other if we want to accomplish anything. Speaking of which, how are you feeling now? I did my best during the fight, but that wound looked deep."

Onika thinks for a moment, fiddling with the last pebble she has to throw. She flicks it into the ground. She corrects her posture from the combative stance she had assumed and straightens out her trinkets, looking to see how Eithne manages the interaction with the wolves.
(OOC: I’m not sure if this messes up the rounds or not since my next action is taken already, but…)
Lucian, now calm…or calmer then he was at least, opens his eyes to see the surrendering wolf laying on her back in front of him. Vaguely, he hears Eithne’s request to leave this one alive and…he feels a hint of relief. Something about the whimpering of this wolf mother bothered him…no, it had nothing to do with his other half. That part of him was nearly incapable of sympathy, yet… As the wolf lays there whimpering, he finds himself trembling again. Slowly, he sinks down beside her and places a hand on her neck, stroking the fur across her cheek. “I’m sorry,” he whispers. “You…you’re alright.” He pauses, glancing at the blood on his hands. Had he really just killed a wolf with his fists? Unsure if he really should feel anything towards this animal…sorrow or anger…he stays where he is, still trembling slightly.
Lucian remains staring at the wolf, pointedly keeping his eyes away from the body of the one that had attacked Nikolai...the one he'd killed. He keeps his hand resting on the she-wolf's neck, and is still shaking rather visibly.
After a moment, he hears the other's talking, and lifts his head to see Chara investigating a pile of...bones. Seeing this, his hand tightens on the wolf's fur, and he has the sudden urge to press down on her neck to further take advantage of her submissive pose. Yet he doesn't. Instead he looks to Eithne and asks, "What...do you want to do with her?"
Pietrovich walks over to Lucian's wolf. "Is best to kill once they have taste of human flesh. Cannot be trusted." Looking at Lucian, he adds, with some sympathy, "We do it quick. Little pain"
...After a moment, he hears the other's talking, and lifts his head to see Chara investigating a pile of...bones. Seeing this, his hand tightens on the wolf's fur, and he has the sudden urge to press down on her neck to further take advantage of her submissive pose. Yet he doesn't. Instead he looks to Eithne and asks, "What...do you want to do with her?"
Eithne replies: "Try making leashes with this," she fecthes a rope from her backpack "then keeping this she-wolf (and the cubs) with us. Try feeding them regularly. Try teaching them to obey by rewarding them when they do - and instead denying them rewards when they don't obey. Thanks to the leashes, however, they will not be able to attack other defenseless ones. If they were to get violent, at most they could attack us... and suffer the consequences. But I hope they learn to obey us instead. Why should they not, if they feel well fed an well treated? They might even learn to fight for us".
The savage stranger goes on with that she said and makes a slip knot, which then passes delicately around the she-wolf's neck, trying to talk to her in a calm and reassuring tone: "Good... You give up, don't you? Then let me put this on you... We won't do anything bad anymore to you"
She tightens the knot so the she-wolf can't free herself and she can move freely if she doesn't force it... but she feels strangled if she tries to yank it.
If the she-wolf lets her do this, she after offers her part of her rations as reward and, always moving slowly, strokes her to reassure her.
If everything goes on without too much trouble, she tries to do the same with each of the puppies (perhaps in this case first offering them food, then trying to put them on the leash - showing them that the she-wolf already has it, in so that maybe they accept it without too much diffidence).
''Come on puppies...' thinks the last of the dusk elf maidens 'Help me to have your life spared... We'll do well together... Let's be a new pack!'
Menawhile, the voices in her head are mixed...
Some of them scold her: 'Eithne! But what are you thinking?! They killed the baby!'
But there are many more who approve: 'The child is now dead... What's the point of killing them too, if it can be avoided? They are children... even if they are wolf children'
Pietrovich walks over to Lucian's wolf. "Is best to kill once they have taste of human flesh. Cannot be trusted." Looking at Lucian, he adds, with some sympathy, "We do it quick. Little pain"
"Let us try taking them with us, Pietrovich" counters Eithne. "Since we are leaving right now, they won't bother you anymore - and if they give problems, we will be the first to have to cope with it. And cope we will, if we must. Your problem is solved anyway. Why don't you take care, instead," the savage stranger fixes sad azure eyes in those of the other "of recovering the girl's remains and arranging them as best you can for the funeral... This will give the family more comfort than any avoidable execution that could take place here".
As Eithne suggests to Pietrovich that he should recover the child's remains, Chara suddenly realizes how it might look to the crossbowman to see a devil standing over (what she assumes to be, even if the body is too mutilated to say with any degree of certainty) the body of the child.
"Nikolai, would you mind taking care of this?" Chara whispers to the half-elf, before doing her best to fade into the shadows. "I think it would probably be for the best if our new friend doesn't see too much of me..."

Lucian looks from Pietrovich to Eithne, then back again. Part of him agrees with the hunter, but at the same time…this wolf was being so submissive. Still, would it be any less cruel to take her freedom then it would be to put her down? Hesitantly, he stands up and back away, “I…Will let you two decide…” His eye drop down to the wolf for a moment before he shakes his head and wraps his arms around himself before walking towards where Nikolai and Chara were investigating the bones. When Chara leaves, he nearly follows her. He doesn’t really want to be near the blood and bones anymore, nor does he really like seeing Eithne putting rope collars on the wolves. Something about it makes him feel…sick, and he wonders how he would feel if someone killed his companions, then put a collar on his neck and expected him to do as he was told.
In spite of this, he also feels the need to see this through, no matter the outcome. So he stays.
Standing beside Nikolai, he glances back to where Eithne was leashing the she-wolf. If she makes her way to the den where the pups are, he will watch…expecting some sort of reaction from the mother wolf, but not really knowing if he should care. Looking down at the bones, his gut clenches as the smell of blood hits him again. Is this really all that remains of the human child?
(lol, I guess we kind of got ahead of ourselves...)
Lucian looks from Pietrovich to Eithne, then back again. Part of him agrees with the hunter, but at the same time…this wolf was being so submissive. Still, would it be any less cruel to take her freedom then it would be to put her down? Hesitantly, he stands up and backs away, “I…Will let you two decide…”
Lucian flinches a little when the wolf turns to growl at Eithne. Instinctively, he moves a hand to press down on the wolf's muzzle. "Don't" He says as his hand come's into contact with the wolf once again. He'd intended to go join Nikolai and Chara, but now he wasn't sure what to do. This was his first time dealing with wolves... he'd scarcely even seen one before outside of scattered memories from his other half. Cringing a little, his eyes move to Eithne and Pietrovich. What will they think of this wolf's behavior? He can't know for sure, but he has a strong feeling that it has something to do with him being a werewolf.
Pulling his hand back (assuming the wolf doesn't decide to turn on him now), he wraps his arms around himself and takes a few more steps backwards. He isn't sure if he should stay and...help deal with this, but he would much rather leave. Glancing towards Nikolai and Chara he notices the she-devil leaving. Right now, he kind of wants to do the same thing. He doesn't want to help Pietrovich put this wolf down, or help Eithne collar it. But he also doesn't want his companions to think poorly of him. So he just stands there, unsure of what to do, waiting to see what Eithne tries next.
As Chara steps into the trees, she notices Lucian agonizing over what to do with the surviving wolves. It takes her a moment to realize what's happening...
"Oh no," Chara whispers as the scene unfolds.
She considers intervening... but decides against it. The decision isn't hers, it's Lucian's. And she still wants to minimize contact with Pietrovich or anyone else who might have questions about the presence of a devil within this group. She retrieves her cloak and the backpack, struggling to fit the massive pack over her wings.
Eithne is completely unaware of how ruthless appears to Lucian her plan to collar a poor free she-wolf (who, while free, took part in the massacre of a child), in order to save her life immediately and, in the longer term, to offer her a new life, with perhaps a few more constraints, but with the advantages of much more regular food and a much safer protection against any animal or human predators.
So the savage stranger makes her own attempt to save the beast's life and hopes for the better...
After the battle, Nikolai will approach Chara. "Thank you, for healing me back there. I've never really had anyone do me a favor like that since I can remember. I've been on my own a long time.
