This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Korlan: The older woman looks at you in amazement, shaking her head in disbelief at how badly you messed up that scroll. Gesturing with her hands she mimes that you should get another scroll and start over. She also points to a small brazier where you can dispose of your ruined scroll. Unfortunately, you just looked into your ink well and realized that it is basically empty. You don't see any more around you anywhere. Brother Annan's Perception check: 22
After roll: Brother Annan notices the disturbance by your work table. He comes over, sees the disgrace you have made of your scroll, and then looks in your inkwell. "This was the last of the special ink used for creating spell scrolls." His frown speaks volumes. "You will need to go to the market and procure more." He sets a small coin pouch on the table next to you. "And return to complete this scroll after the noon meal."
Quill: In the library, on the lower level, you meet Sister Delayna. Her sleek black hair, pulled into a bun with two crossed decorative sticks through it, reveals her tiny, pale white, halfling face and smiling almond shaped eyes. "Tell me, young one, what do you desire to research in the library?" Speaking in a whisper seems to be her normal tone of voice. "Others here are seeking knowledge on many things, from truths of Usoara, to the history of the temple, to lore about ancient extinct races." A cleric at a nearby table drops a book heavily onto its surface making a loud noise. With lightning fast reflexes Sister Delayna's small hand whips one stick from her hair and flings it like a dart across the room. It sticks, quivering, into the wood next to the clumsy cleric's hand. His eyes go round in fear and he immediately bows low and apologizes for his carelessness with the book. The halfling Sister returns her still calm face to you. "And do be careful here in the library. The books here are quite old and fragile." Her eyes spear you. "And quite irreplaceable."
Esvaris: The spiky red haired dwarven girl takes a breather between training bouts, listening to you. "It means you have been singled out for Friar Bernard's special attention. He sees something in you. Potential." After a few more rounds she stops again to speak to you. "It looks like it's your turn now," she says with a nod towards the center of the room. Five other students are gathered in a wide circle, each holding a quarterstaff. The goliath beckons you over to join him in the center. For the next hour he has you practice two man back-to-back fighting while surrounded by enemies. (Roll five melee attacks with any melee weapon contested against these five attacks against you: 6, 18, 2, 15, 1, If you hit DC 12 or higher more often than they hit your AC16 then you can increase either your Strength or Dex score by 1)
Edit after roll: Your opponents only managed to break through your defense once!
Esvaris: In a whirlwind of blows, staves darting in and out, the elven cleric moved as if everyone else was in slow motion. In unison with his goliath teacher the two bent and moved in an artistic dance around in a circle as their attackers struck from every side. It was over almost before it began, leaving the central figures breathing almost calmly while the five surrounding them were on the ground, thrown back by mighty blows, or stood gasping, clutching their injured sides and trying not to put weight on bruised ankles. Safara stares at Esvaris in awe. Friar Bernard grips your shoulder firmly and smiles. "Well done!" He laughs, something that , judging by the surprised looks on the other students' faces, he does not do often. "You do not need training in this class. You are of a skill level that you need to engage in real combat or simply work to increase your speed and strength on your own." He gives your shoulder a friendly squeeze. "I am sad to lose you as a student, but glad to know you as a friend." Tattooed eyes crinkling in warmth he invites you, "Join the other masters and I at the dinner bell this evening. I would introduce them to this prodigy who has joined our number." (You may choose to add 1 point to either your strength or dex scores)
i swipe the bag of coin off the table as soon as Brother Annan is done talking. “You won’t be disappointed,” I say to him. I rush out of the room and down the hallway to the common area. If I see Sister Naphtali I want to stop and talk with her a moment. I look at her panicked. “I, uh, lost my holy symbol Sister. The meeting room is the only place I have not looked yet. Do you mind if I check in there?”
if im granted access, I want to take the locket, note and book. I’ll conceal these items in my clothing. I’ll pull my holy symbol out from under my shirt and wear it over my clothing. As I walk out I say, “thank Usoara herself. I found it under the table. Must have feel off when I was moving things around.” I grab it and give it a rub. “Brother Annan has tasked me with getting more special scroll ink? I used up the last of it and I don’t know where to find more.”
If she Sister Naphtali is not there, I want to try to sneak into the room.
Korlan: Sister Naphtali shakes her curly brown hair. "That's odd. I was just in there and I didn't see it. Some of the novice initiates were helping me move all the books in there to the library." She says it's fine to go take a look anyway. There are no books left in the room. When you come back out she says, "If you're looking for spell scroll ink, the best place is Quill and Potts. It's not directly in the market. If you take a right at the far northwest corner, that's to the right of Sir Gable's mansion, you'll find the shop just a little ways down the street."
Quill: Sister Delayna nods her head. "Yes, of course. Right this way." You follow her to a section of books on the lower floor behind several desks. The bookshelves on the lower level all spread out like the spokes of a wheel from the center instead of having their backs flat against the wall as they are on the upper floor. She points to an area where fresh scrolls, quills, and ink are kept in case you need to make notes, then she goes back to her duties.
Make an Intelligence check to see how your Research goes. Also roll a d6 for any potential Complications. If you roll a natural 1-5 on your d20 roll, the d6 roll will go into effect.
Korlan: As you work your way through the late morning crowds in the market square, wonderful aromas begin to fill the air. Many stalls and tents are beginning to sell delicious kabobs and meat pies with juices dripping, candied fruits and rich chocolately drinks. There is even one vendor selling large fried peacock legs! It's getting close to noon meal. Near the far end of the market you see an actual caravan wagon parked in the square with wooden shutters opened on the side over a wide open window. It's brightly painted and you can see that the middle aged matron inside is selling jewelry and potions. "Magic rings! To give you the eyes of a hawk! Love potions to draw your lover's heart and Hero potions to strengthen your own heart!" she calls out to the crowd. The fiery red scarf around her black hair and the dangling feathered earring she wears catch the eye with their bright colors.
Edit: yes, you get the other two items and take them with you.
Quill spends the entire morning researching the gift of prophecy and recorded prophets. The sheer amount of information is somewhat overwhelming. Some prophets, its seems, have had the ability of Foresight while others have a very different ability of Divination. There are also false prophets who use their supposed abilities to see events they could not possibly know, but are, in fact, using something personal like stolen strands of hair or fingernail clippings to cast a Scrying on someone in order to see and hear from afar.
He also finds one historical prophecy that seems to have some connection to the goddess, but it is in a book so old that much of the writing is faded and illegible. It reads:
"Woe to the evildoer whose hand touches the , for even the harms the hand of the evil ones. Only a true Child of Light, lover and beloved of Usoara, may awaken the true powers of the , and only with the sacred word on the lips."

At some point during the morning, I would like to ask Safara, "So, if I'm an apprentice, what must I do?"

"Thanks, Friar." I decide that given this advice, I will tend the garden after lunch.

(OOC: did I get ahold of the locket or the note?)
I head of into town using the directions provided. The coin purse tucked in close to me.

"Hmmm..." mutters Quill, remembering how the prophetess curled her finger in his hair.
But why would she scry on me? he thinks.
It seems unlikely that that was her purpose, unless she thinks I'll see something important.
Quill copies the lines of the ancient prophecy onto his scroll, along with basic notes on prophets and more detailed notes on false prophets.
And that's all I have to say about that.
