Name: Mialee Firahel Race: High Elf Class/Subclass (if not yet taken, please indicate your current choice.): Fighter/Rouge Multiclass (arcane archer / undecided rogue subclass) Background: Courtier
Backstory (please indicate why you have received an invitation and how you will afford the tuition fees): Mialee was never one to care for politics, much to her entire family's displeasure While her brothers were busy playing games with the officals and minor nobles that make up a majority of high elf society, she was watching soldiers and craftsmen do their work with rapt.
In fact, it was one of these sessions of watching the archers practice while daydreaming of escape from the game that led to her own not-quite apprenticeship/squireship/enlistment (too young to enlist, i dont think squires for archers are a thing, so I guess apprenticeship is the best word for it). Her parents disapproved, as usual. And her Master worked her hard, but by the time she received the letter from Clearwater she could draw a full sized longbow and hit the target 8/10 times. Sometimes she thinks her master is smiling when she does it.
She knows her parents were never really happy with her 'apprenticeship', so she knew it was only ever going to be temporary. What she didnt expect was them deciding to pay the tuition for Clearwater and shipping her off there so she wouldnt cause anymore embarrassment at home. At least that was her guess. She didnt really care honestly. At least she was going far, far away.
Class/Subclass (if not yet taken, please indicate your current choice.): Cleric (Arcana)
Background: Noble
Backstory: Rook grew up as the only son of a noble house. His father was an important diplomat and was often gone traveling. Oft left to his own devices, Rook spent hours pouring over books studying ancient mysteries and feats of the arcane. As he read he came across more and more information on the god of knowledge and that eventually led him to her temple. There Rook pledged himself to her and began to study the arcane and it’s mysteries under her tutelage. As he studied, Rook heard of Clearwater academy. There he thought was a wellspring of knowledge that would allow him to better serve his god. He used his connections through his father to send a formal application to the Academy. With how absent his father is, Rook knows he can for a while at least, use his father’s money to pay for his tuition until his father decides to pay attention, then he can make his case to him for further funding.
Ooh, this looks fun! Here is my late submission :P
Name: Tristan Hallemarn
Class and subclass: Wizard, Chronurgy.
Race: Human
Background: Noble
Backstory: The first thing Tristan remembers was a knife. The glint of fire reflected in steel, a pitifiul cry of pain and then....nothing. The second thing he remembers awaking in a soft bed, clutching his only belonging from whatever his life was before, a locket with the initials T.R.N. engraved on them, and a faded painting of a chrysanthemum flower inside. Soon after guards entered the room, and helped him to his feet. He remembered being taken into a large hall, and seeing a tall man sitting in a chair, next to a woman and her child. They told him that he may not remember his childhood, but he was now their son. Second in line to the throne of (Insert hot, southern country here). They didn't even give him a name, but he knew his initials. He fashioned them into a name....Tristan. As a child, Tristan was always treated differently. Not just because he was a prince, or that his skin was pale compared to the olive brown of his countrymen, but because of his blood red eyes. Everyone he spoke to said that they were nothing out of the ordinary, but at the same time they never met his gaze, not even the King. He was known, and often avoided if not feared by the palace staff, and even his own parents. As a result, he was forbidden from leaving the palace grounds, or interacting with anyone not sanctioned by the King and Queen. His new brother, Haial, was the only person who saw past that. Haial was a statistic. The only crown prince in the history of the country to have no aptitude for magic. He was never scorned due to his parenthood, but he was as much of an outcast as Trsitan was, for the complete opposite reason. Tristan was a prodigy. A master at his craft from a very young age, able to access complex spells that some masters took years to achieve. When Tristan turned Seventeen, he started to ask questions about his history, but the only answer he was given was 'All in good time'. So he decided to find out himself. He was reading a book in the great Library, and his teacher had been long gone. Left to his own devices, he started to investigate. He searched for hours, and was about to give up when he found a scrap of paper hidden in an old spell-book. On it was a charcoal drawing of a man, completely monochromatic apart from his two red eyes, and a single word. Andwyrdan. Tristan searched with renewed vigor, and finally found a book with a reference to the elusive Andwyrdan.
' ...The Andwyrdan are mages like no others. They can be recognized by their distinctive marker, eyes the color of freshly spilled blood. They are called Aven (blessed) by some, weapons by others but by most they are called cursed. Whatever the case, they are linked to the deepest of magics, and therefore dangerous in the extreme. However, there most coveted gift is their dominion over time and space. It is widely viewed as evil, but some would kill to have such a power. it is closely linked to the magic of Dunamancy....'
Horrified by his discovery, he thought of the the King and Queen. The information confirmed his worst suspicions. He was Andwyrdan. Despite what they said, he was not their son. The only reason he was adopted was because of his power, he was but a tool to them. It took little time for him to make a decision. He would've left that evening if not for Haial. He took his time, eventually gathering all the things he would need (including a large sum of gold from the royal treasury), but he kept delaying. Finally he confronted his brother in all but blood. Haial was oblivious to Kell's plan but Tristan knew that he sensed something was off. Tristan talked his way past the guards, but when he attempted to leave, Haial was standing at the gate. Tristan could not explain the situation, but he managed to convince Haial to let him go. He offered to come, but Tristan refused as he worried about Haial's safety from the monarchs, only telling Haial to be a better ruler than his parents. Tristan avoided cities until he left the country, training along the way. In one, he was shocked, and saddened to see a warrant for his capture, naming his crime treason. He eventually made is way north, taking a new surname and wearing a blindfold to hide his gift in the process. It was fortunate that the invitation to this academy that he snagged from the son of the royal advisor upon his leaving didn't have a name assigned to it. Perhaps he could finally learn more about his gifts here...
Name: Jashin Race: Wood Elf Class/Subclass (if not yet taken, please indicate your current choice.): Monk/Way of the Open Hand Background: Acolyte
Backstory (please indicate why you have received an invitation and how you will afford the tuition fees):
Jashin was so to say, a favorite for the high priest. He was usually the one that the High Priest called upon when giving tasks, and the one that the High Priest rewarded the most. Jashin also had the luck of being raised in a wealthy temple that was dedicated to the God of Nature. Jashin, however, despite the Priests favor and a comfortable life at the temple, alwalys wanted more. He wanted to go see the world. He would often talk to his fellow Monk peers about what he thought the world was like. His visions were alwaly's so bright, and as the years went by, his longing and wonder only grew. The High Priest, being a influential character, and caring for Jashin dearly, then decided that he would then go to the nearby Clearwater Academy, and make a recommendation for Jashin to join the academy. He knew that if Jashin were to go out into the world with his current knowledge, he would not last, and so he wanted him to get a education, to teach more about his beloved world, and how to better understand it, and possibly, change it for the better.
Grew up on the streets having to steal to keep alive. Was forced to work for the local mage who treated him like a lab rat practicing their spells on them.
After one of the spells went drastically wrong the building burnt down. Once Wade woke up he saw his chance to escape his prison and start his own path.
On the streets life was somehow harder, not having a regular meal and being unable to trust anyone he had to steal just to feed himself. With just the scorched clothes on his back he dreams of a future where he can provide for himself.
Personality (And what scares the character) : - Personality: Has a need to steal whatever they see fit to survive in the tough world - Ideals: To be able to live in a world where he no longer needs to steal - Flaw: Does not trust others easily - Terrified of Magic
Hoping this still open, I'm a highly active poster during the day (GMT+1) and have a few years experience playing, I lean more toward the RP side of play though I've never played in this kind of academy setting before.
Name: Gregory Peppers
Race: Gnome (Svirfneblin if allowed)
Class: Wizard (developing into school of Necromancy)
Background: Acolyte
Backstory:
Gregory has had a tough time of things lately and has a morbid outlook on life, but it wasn't always that way.
The only child of a comfortable family of miners, living in a community of gnomes dwelling in the underdark, Gregory was used to having people around him. But strange creatures move in the darkness and horrific accidents can happen in the depths of mines which encroach upon the places within the ground where no mortal should dare step. When the day came that half of the miners did not return, an investigation was launched and a branch of the mine closed permanently, Gregory was informed of his parents deaths and was given their remains for burial, but the truth of how it happened was kept secret from him, all he knew was that his world had been turned upside down and he was being shipped off to a temple, to be taken care of by his grandparents.
The temple was on the surface world, a good getaway for the young gnome, and a distraction from his grief. His grandparents, humble aging clerics of a devout order of life, trained clerics and paladins of the order, but we're no high priests themselves. The temple gave aid to the surrounding towns providing healing and taking donations, the healing fascinated Gregory, but the thing that caught his attention most was the wealth of knowledge within the temple library, everything one could possibly want to know about healing, the processes of life and how to shape the energy that flows through all things. Gregory took to isolating himself and devouring as much knowledge as possible, being able to summon the magic to perform cantrips and a few spells in no time.
Elders of the temple saw Gregory's aptitude for magic and asked him to undertake their clerical training, but Gregory refused giving them some cause for concern about his true intentions, a concern that had already blossomed from their observation of how reclusive the young gnome was.
In an effort to help Gregory, the temple decided that he should be around people his own age and put his passion for learning to good use, hoping to bring him out of his shell they enrolled him in the Clearwater academy, and thus his adventure begins.
