As the party travels through the swamp you become a bit lost and arrive in the middle of a field of iridescent marsh bubbles that bubble up from the muck and float haphazardly through the air. The bubbles were not there before, but now they are everywhere around you.
(OOC: It looks like Finley has already rolled, and I guess Gan-Re isn't within touch range.)
Valrieth looks around, alarmed. She wrinkles her nose: this befouled swamp is an offense against Nature! Before Valrieth tries to walk through the bubbles, she carefully removes her star map from her pouch and casts Guidance on herself, praying that the Stars guide her steps safely. Then tries to flatten her ears down and creep through the field without touching any bubbles.
Val and Gan-re passes through the bubble field unharmed, but Finley walks into a a bubble and it pops suffusing the area around Finley with a strange gas.
Bittertongue Gas. A foul taste fills Finley's mouth, and everything the character eats or drinks tastes awful. Slugs appear to be the only exception; they taste like ripe cherries.
"Those snakes may avoid this area. Do we want to take a short rest and try to open the box and identify the potions?"
Valrieth is muddy and tired and would be happy to take a short rest nearby to sort out the potions. Just so long as they're not too close in the middle of the unnatural bubbles!
Before they rest, Val offers to spend 10 minutes to cast Detect Magic as a ritual so that she can check to see whether the box itself is magical, if you'd like. Once she has that spell running, she could also check to see which of the "potions" are actually magical. For all we know, one of the vials contains something mundane but dangerous.
Once Gan-Re is ready to open the box, Val will take out her star map and cast Guidance on Gan-Re to ensure that he's facing the right direction and correctly aligned with the constellations for the best chance at successfully picking the lock.
Val guesses we'll just have to taste the potions to see what they do, right? But before we really start using them, maybe Finley should use Identify to make sure that any healing potions aren't really a potion of poison in disguise?
Val was planning to wait until the end of the day, but note that she also has create or destroy water prepared. (OOC: I'm not sure whether that requires one large open container or whether she can create water in several smaller open containers at once. The goodberry that everyone ate this morning should mean that no one needs food today, but I'm not sure about water.)
For the create water spell it creates 10 gallons all at once in an open container. So 1 big container. A wooden bark bucket can be made to hold the water.
Gan-Re hands Val the potions and the box waits for her to cast detect magic. While he is waiting he stands guard, Javelin in hand. He says "Finley, any chance you can make me some arrows? I'm all out."

Finley coughs and spits on the ground. “So gross.. and ah’d need some metal, feathers and some good shafts so they fly straight Or would ye like ta use me light crossbow?” He looks over to Val.
“Lemme know which ones ta identify. It can take ten minutes for each one or Ah can do three o’ them fast like.”

Gan-Re takes the opportunity to preen himself and collects some feathers while he is at it. He thinks about the metal and says "Maybe you can use the box after I have opened it?"
He then looks for suitable bits of wood that could be carved into shafts.
Survival: 3 due to roll of 1 :-)

"Th' box could possibly work, but ah'd need to smelt th' metal down, if'n ah cannae make th' arrows very well in this strange place, we'll figure out somethin' for ye ta reach th' flying rascals like that snake." Finley says.
He gets his smith tools out to tinker on his armor, etching some runes into the gauntlets. Finley begins to sing softly, "The Dwarven smiths sang mighty spells, their hammers rang like distant bells." He continues the tune in a hum as he works.
Valrieth tries to find a dry, firm place where she can spend 10 minutes to cast detect magic as a ritual. Then she'll check each of the potions and bottles that Gan-Re took from the tower:
Empty Bottle 1
Empty Bottle 2
Mud green potion
Purple potion
Blue potion
Orange potion
Then she checks the box to see whether the box itself is magical. (OOC: For each one, she should learn whether it's magical or not and the school of magic (if any).)
She reports any results to the others.
Once she's done with that, Val just takes a quick look around the area to make sure that there's not some magical bog or tree or something nearby. Finally, she'll drop her concentration on that so that she can cast guidance on Gan-Re for picking the lock on the box.
Val does not create water now. She wants to save her spell slots at least until they reach Telemy Hill. If they haven't found fresh water by the end of the day or by the time they reach Telemy Hill, she'll do it then if she has an unused spell slot. (She was thinking that she'll create more water than the 3 of them can drink in 1 day, and in his befouled swamp, perhaps a bucket of fresh water would be a valuable gift to offer Jingle Jangle.)
Val can help taste the magical potions. I guess Finley won't be able to help with that at the moment because his sense of taste is ruined.
Finally, she'll settle down for an hour of rest and meditation.
(OOC: I'm hoping that they manage to get an uninterrupted short rest. Val is at full hit points, so she doesn't need to spend a hit die, but she'd really like to recharge her wild shape.)

The empty bottles are not magical
The other potions are magical. If someone has the identify spell they will know exactly what these potions are.
Gan-re does not find any suitable wood for the arrow shafts.
And the ornate box itself?
Finley, you're up!
The ornate box is not magical. Know that spells that have a cost for a component must be found or bought.
