Sling: Dice rolls not yet available for this section.
(OOC: Hm. The dice roller appears to be broken. I even tried editing the post, but it's still showing that error. I'll check later, and if that doesn't work, I'll just roll on Valrieth's character sheet.)
(OOC: FYI - trying to repost to trigger the dice roller to kick in.)
(OOC: OK. I don't know whether it was my repost or whether D&DB just fixed whatever was broken, but I'm seeing dice rolls now. Not great rolls, of course, but the pop-up details on the rolls show the right modifiers.)
It will take the party almost a minute to reach the stairs if dashing. Now at the base of the stairs everyone enlarges, and the coin does as well a second later emitting a scream. Bavlorna looks to the coin and snaps her fingers caused to coin to disappear. The Witchy guest also looks at the screaming coin.
Finley nods, "ah won't go far from ye."He then follows her into the room, handing her the coin. As soon as the coin flies in the other direction he starts to move, taking it as careful as he can to stay near Valrieth, but he starts up the stairs.
(Stealth: 14 with pass without trace.)

Finley Stoneshaft, Dwarf Artificer - The Wild Beyond the Witchlight, Falkas, Half-Elf Drow Warlock - Keys of Empire
As soon as she flings the coin, Valrieth turns and dashes toward the stairs. She returns to her normal size just as she reaches the stairs, but the two fey look toward the stairs. Val follows the others up the stairs, trying to move quickly out of sight while also moving as quietly as possible. Stealth31
You have not entered the room yet. It was hovering at the top of the stairs and now its heading down to you.
(OOC: Hm. I think that Valrieth got to the stairs last, so she's probably at the back of the line this time behind Vansel and Octavian.)
Valrieth creeps quietly up the stairs and hopefully far enough to be out of sight of Bavlorna and her guest. She sees light coming from up ahead and hopes that there's not already someone in Bavlorna's bedroom. Her companions in front of her have stopped, and she tries leaning to the side to look up the stairs. Maybe there's a door, and Finley made light so that he could pick a lock?
But then she sees what looks like a light, floating all by itself down the stairs from above. A ghost? A fey? Some sort of warding spell?
(Not sure whether that would be Arcana or Nature, but Val has the same bonus in both skills: 4.)
Val you know the light to be a Will-O'-wisp and Finley knows the light is not a spell, but a creature of the Fey.
Will-o’-wisps are malevolent, wispy balls of light that haunt lonely places and battlefields, bound by dark fate or dark magic to feed on fear and despair.Consumed by Despair.Will-o’-wisps are the souls of evil beings that perished in anguish or misery as they wandered forsaken lands permeated with powerful magic. They thrive in swampy bogs and bone-strewn battlefields where the oppressive weight of sorrow stoops even heavier than the low-hanging mist and fog. Trapped in these desolate places of lost hope and memory, will-o’-wisps lure other creatures toward dismal fates and feed on their misery.
In the miserable domains they haunt, will-o’-wisps sometimes form symbiotic relationships with their wicked neighbors. Hags, oni, black dragons, and evil cultists work with will-o’-wisps to draw creatures into ambush. As their evil allies surround and slaughter creatures, the wisps hover above them, drinking the agony of a last breath and savoring the sensation as the light of life goes out in a creature’s eyes.
Valrieth sucks in her breath. She slides past Octavian up the stairs to get closer to Finley. She hisses as quietly as she can: "Will-o'-wisp. Malevolent spirit, probably guarding her room. Tell it we're returning a book. Or try that password again. Maybe it'll let us pass."
"We're here ta return ah book for Bavlorna," Finley says, voice slightly shaky, "we only need ta pass momentarily."His fear getting the better of him, he forgets any kind of password.

Finley Stoneshaft, Dwarf Artificer - The Wild Beyond the Witchlight, Falkas, Half-Elf Drow Warlock - Keys of Empire
The Will-O'-Wisp stops and is delighted to taste fear from Finley. It moves closer to savor that feeling, but it stops and drifts back into the bedroom.
The party heads up into B18
The Will-O'-Wisp bobs above the rafters, casting shadows over this room, in which the owner’s messy habits are on full display. Rumpled and moldering rugs share floor space with food scraps, stacks of dirty dishes, and tipped-over clay pots whose plants have long since died.
A bed that occupies one corner of the room has a pile of straw in place of a mattress. In the opposite corner stands a squat chest of drawers with a watering can resting atop it. The only other furnishing of note is a stocky wooden chest with a sturdy iron padlock. It sits in another corner between two closed doors.
The Will-O'-Wisp stops and heads back into the bedroom letting the party up, but you know you are being watched.

Valrieth breathes a sigh of relief and gives Finley an encouraging smile and a nod. She glances back down the stairs before following him into the bedroom at the top of the stairs.

Val glances around briefly and then looks nervously at the stairs. She says, "I'd feel more comfortable if we had a second exit. What if Bavlorna comes upstairs?" Val asks Vansel to keep watch at the top of the stairs and to tell them if he sees Bavlorna or anyone other than Bloody Toes coming up the stairs. She then asks Octavian to check the two doors (on the east and the south of the room) while she and Finley start exploring this room. She's hoping that one of the doors will provide them an emergency exit if they get into trouble.
Val starts with the chest of drawers. She checks each drawers' contents and feels inside for any false bottoms or hidden compartments, even looking under each drawer, while it's pulled out. She's focused on their current goals:
Find Clapperclaw's head
Find Octavian's heart
Learn anything else that would help them defeat Bavlorna
Octavian does as he is asked and finds all the doors are locked.
Chest of Drawers. This chest contains folded dresses and other garments that Bavlorna wears occasionally. None of them were made for her, but she has adjusted them to fit her toadish form. All of the garments are discolored from age and neglect.
The watering can resting atop the chest is full of water.
There seems to be no further clues in the chest of drawers.

Bavlorna still chatting with her guest.
The coins lands not where you intended but does land on the floor next to the rug.
You have a minute before you and the coin enlarge. The coin will enlarge a second later than Val.
