During their shopping spree, Raven will point out the best deals on Explorers packs and explain which gear is the most important and why. Though she does this in a much quieter voice so only Dhara can hear her. She doesn't want the shop keeper to up the price on them after all.
For herself, she will look for some hide armor, specifically some that has had magical improvements. If there isn't one, well she'll settle for just plain hide armor. The higher ups had made it clear that they would be finding themselves in some dangerous situations, she has a pretty good guess that not all of them will be cave-ins. Once she finds some new armor, she'll grab another 50ft of rope (never know when you'll need that!) and two healing potions.
Once Dhara and Raven are finished, she asks, "Ok, Now I'm hungry! Let's go get something to eat!"
Thondor - With a 16, I'd say that you are able to talk the master smith into a challenge of his work, to take your current armor and improve upon it while replacing it with splint armor in the meanwhile. He does make you promise that you will return one day to re-exchange the two armor sets, however. 5 GP for mason's tools, and 150 gp for a bag of holding; see below for the going price on health potions!
Dhara - We'll say 150 gp for the bag of holding, see the bolded bit below for the potions and 10 gp for the explorer's kit
Branmar - The splint armor will run you 180 GP, and the remaining supplies will cost you another 30 (lot's of supply for these items around these parts, so they go for cheaper.) We'll call it 50 gp for the +1 AP tool, and we'll say 50 for the prosthetic limb (it will require losing a limb first in order to use it, however.)
Raven - Hide armor is fairly available! we'll say that you find a bazarre where a kindly older gnomish wizard sells you an enchanted hide armor made from the semi-legendary Zoraki Beast, known for hunting it's pray in distant Maledon by illusion magics. It's a +1 Armor that gives you the ability to cast Faerie Fire (1 charge), Silent Image (2 charges) and Mirror Image (3 charges). The armor has a total of 4 charges and restores one charge per day at dawn. (I'm not great at figuring out how to create a homebrew item on here, but you want to try it or would like to just keep track of it in the notes section of your character sheet, you may). The enchanted armor will cost 300 GP. The additional rope will run you 5 more GP. See below in bold for the price of potions.
(bfoster121) - For the purposes of this town, we'll say that the company sells healing potions at a discounted rate of 40 GP apiece (This is bolded so that everybody can read it and calculate as needed)! For a +1 Rod of the Pact Keeper, I'll say it's 200, but you have to meet with some somewhat unpleasant folk to get that item. On the edge of town, in a rundown tavern with a rather intimidating clientele of especially barbaric and savage-looking dwarves - the sort of folk who probably haven't prayed at a forge of Moradin for a few years, if you get my drift.
((Branmar is missing his right arm and leg from the explosion in his shop years ago. It's in the notes on his character sheet. While in his arcane armor from the Armorer class it isn't noticeable. "The armor attaches to you and can’t be removed against your will. It also expands to cover your entire body, although you can retract or deploy the helmet as a bonus action. The armor replaces any missing limbs, functioning identically to a body part it is replacing." He rarely removes the armor unless necessary.))
Branmar looks longingly at the prosthetics while considering the importance of his other purchases. Deciding that his armor has gotten him by this far, he sighs, "Next time." He walks away, subconsciously limping from the memory of his accident.
((With the adjusted prices considered, I decided against the healing potions and picked up the All-Purpose Tool +1 and a Bag of Holding, freeing up the infusion slot to be used on something else.))
Thondor gives a nod of agreement to the smith and proceeds to remove his chain mail and don the splint right in the shop with no regard to modesty. He accepts the bag of holding and 4 potions of healing and hands over the gold. He then takes the time to transfer all of his possessions to the bag of holding. With a simple, “I be returning after me assignment to settle up with ye fer the armor upgrade,” he walks out of the shop leaving behind his unneeded backpack as a tip for the helpful merchant.
Thondor will skip going to the tavern, instead preferring to spend his time working. He wanders the common areas looking for any area that needs improvement. Finding a step which is not completely level carved into the stone, he pulls out some of his new mason’s tools and gets to work on fixing it. He will toil for several hours until he has perfected the repairs.
After waiting at the tavern for his crew to show back up and being disappointed that they didn't, Ebgrun heads to his room and performs the ritual to summon his familiar Xaphan in the shape of an owl. With that done he goes to sleep after double checking the locks on his door.
(Alright she'll grab that armor. I'll put it as just plus one hide for now then mess with it in the homebrew later. Will deduct 385gp.)
After grabbing her new gear, Raven rushes off to the tavern to grab a bite to eat before heading off to bed. If she see's Eb on the way in, she says, "Hey! Where are you off to?"
As Eb is walking towards where the rooms are located he hears the voice of Raven call out. With a slight slur to his speech and slight smile on his face, he says, "Oh heeeey there you guys!" Looking back and forth between Raven and Dhara, "Well I thought..no one wash coming aaaannnnd I a little drunk, sho I wash goin' teh head off to shleepy time. I did shay I would pay for a round so..." he digs into coin pouch and pulls out 5 gold, eyes them carefully and hold out his hand, "Here you are then." Ebgrun does a sloppy half bow and stumbles off towards the lodging. When he thinks he is out of sight, he straightens up and walks straight.
Raven takes the bag of coins and grins at Eb, "Well we wanted to get our shopping out of the way first! Now we are off to get some food before we head to bed."She giggles at the dwarf's slurred words. It's not clear if she knows he's faking or not. Either way, he's paying for her food and drink. The little gnome waves as Eb stumbles off to bed, "Nighty night then!"
Once the dwarf is out of sight, Raven grins and shakes the bag of coins in front of Dhara before dashing into the tavern. She orders the finest meals and the finest drinks she can get for both Dhara and herself, with Eb's money.
(Dhara purchased the Bag of Holding, two Potions of Healing, and the Explorer's Pack.)
"Well... since it's already all paid for, it would be mighty rude of me to refuse," Dhara tells Raven with a big smile. "We really should try to get the boys to come with us next time... they may be a little rough around the edges, but I think they all mean well, and we're gonna have to rely on them a lot if we're all working together. So it might be smart to get to know 'em a bit."
With supplies purchased, and preparations made for the journeys ahead, you all gather the following morning, very early for some. The sun has just crested the end of the valley when Mr. Hoxley begins quick briefing, with accompanying printed handout and illusory image accompaniment.
"You were selected for this task because of your slightly-better than average success on the training course, but I have no illusion that you are fully prepared for the path ahead. The journey will take us three weeks, assuming that we are not caught in a storm, waylaid by other travelers through these wild and untamed lands, and that you are all able to keep the pace. In a few moments, we will travel on a chartered line to the edge of the Greater Seborians. Our first trial will be the Lower Reaches of the Seborian Steppe, marked as region HX 14 on the briefing handout. It should take us about a week to traverse - a low hill-country, lightly forested, and carved by the paths of glaciers and marked by several difficult river-fords. Expect to find some game for hunting, but more concerningly several local tribes of particularly cruel wood elves who will not take kindly to our passage. I've had contact with them before, and they can be reasoned with if they feel it does not offend any deity in their religion. The second part of our journey should take about a week as well, and will be cruel haul over the Greater Steppe - marked HX 31. We will require speed and discipline in this phase, as while the travel is easier there is great danger from hunting Wyverns and other flying predators. At last, we will approach HX 43, the "Hoxwoods," as they are now called. A meaner stretch of enchanted wood I have never seen, but we come prepared with a path through, assuming we make it. For now, our train departs in 5 minutes, and I can answer more of your questions on the move. Onward! For rock and stone."
With hurried steps, you all head over the local station where your gear has already been packed by some of Hoxley's aides. In addition, several other needed supplies have been loaded - an oversized wagon, several large and extremely heavy cases of mining equipment and a vast assortment of other tools and supplies. Hoxley settles into the chartered carriage-space as you all get seated and begin to watch the scenery move by with disconcerting speed. The arcano-mechanical marvel of the great Engine wheezes its way through mountain and valley, sending you on towards the journey ahead.
(Sorry for the delay in posting! Had a busy couple of days!
Hoxley is available for questions during the train ride, so we'll rp a few of those in character after which we'll disembark and start the trek on foot. Largely speaking, we'll do one major story event per each week-long segment of the journey, and I'll try to keep things breezy and moving so that we get to the range. You all may go ahead and level up to level 4 on this leg of the journey. If I didn't mention earlier we'll be going by milestone and leveling pretty quickly for the time being.)
Though he gives no outward indication, Thondor is uneasy about traveling at high speed on a mechanical contraption that he doesn’t understand. But even more disconcerting to him is the thought of spending hours, or days, or more sitting around with no work to do. This, he thinks to himself, be the reason the surface folk be so soft and pudgy. Too much sitting around. He will spend the trip cataloguing and rearranging the equipment on board to ensure the load is properly balanced. He is more than capable of moving even the heaviest items with his psionics but he chooses to do it manually instead. As a result he feels much stronger by the end of the journey.
(+2 Strength during level up)
At some point Thondor will approach Hoxley with a question. “What be the company policy on unpaid labor? Elves be not making the greatest workers, but if we be capturing a few we may find some use for them.”
At some point Thondor will approach Hoxley with a question. “What be the company policy on unpaid labor? Elves be not making the greatest workers, but if we be capturing a few we may find some use for them.”
Hoxley steeples his fingers. "There is a policy on such things, and that is that is that all employees are to receive fair remuneration. This does not extend to non-employees, and we could always establish a barter or contract system with the neighbors, though in my experience Elves are rarely interested in delving the earth as you dwarves are."
“Aye,” Thondor says with a wink at Hoxley and half a smirk, the most emotion he has shown since arriving. “Theybe toiling in the mines to earn their freedom. A fine arrangement… for us.”
Eb arrives at the train the next morning with small owl - grayish-brown plumage spotted and streaked with white, dark amber eyes and what looks to be a frown permanently on its face - perched on his shoulder. He greets his crew with a nod and boards the train.
"You're right about that! I'm sure we'll all get along just fine!"Raven grins then giggles and waves to Dhara as she makes her way back to her quarters. She seems to have forgotten about her scorpion idea...for now.
The little gnome listens intently to Hoxley's description of their journey. The looks quite excited about the potential of meeting a wyvern...maybe to excited even, and she looks almost as excited to get on the engine powered wagon. Hopping on, she gives Thondor a curious look as he asks about potentially gaining some slaves, then turns her stare to Hoxley as the human answers then back to Thondor. She doesn't look deserted in the slightest that her companion seemed perfectly fine with enslaving elves. "Why would you want to make elves work for you? They'd probably be more trouble than they're worth!" She asks giggling.
Once Eb joins, she immediately notices his new familiar. Clasping her hands in front of her face she lets out an excited giggle, "Ooooo who's you're new friend?"
(Sorry it's taken me so long to answer. I've been swamped with homework this week. :'D )
Dhara mostly just spends the trip going through her spellbook, taking notes, etc. She is a bit perturbed by the talk of unpaid Elf labor, but doesn't say anything at the time. She'll cross that bridge when and if they come to it.

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
Branmar is enthralled by the arcano-mechanical wonder before him as he arrives at the train station, torn between professional awe and uncontrollable jealousy of it's creators' skills. Oblivious to the activities of those loading the train and gathering around for departure, he keenly inspects every visible component of the technical marvel. His mind preoccupied with theorizing it's construction and inner workings while mentally sketching preliminary schematics of his conclusions. It is not until he is jarred by the movement of the train making its departure that he snaps from his near-delirious musings and realizes he has been ushered into his seat. "Incredible," he mutters to himself, shaking his head to clear his mind and pulling a notebook and pen from his bag to begin taking notes. (He repeatedly casts Guidance on himself to guide his concentration and intelligence while attempting to work out the intricacies of the trains construction.)
After a long while Branmar stands to stretch and take a break from his work. Noticing Dhara sitting across from him, studying and taking notes herself, he approaches her. In his hoarse tone he interjects, "It's refreshing to be accompanied by another Dwarf that favors intellectual pursuits. What's your field of study? You previously mentioned being learned in the magical arts, do you favor a particular school of magic?"

Giggling, Raven replies, "Yes! Let's do that!"
