Shadow starts exploring the room starting in the debris field, finding nothing he moves to the southern wall which is covered with empty books shelves. He investigates these more by feel than by sight and finds a hidden latch that seems to swing the shelf open but is stuck. Give me a Strength Check.
Laladak and Oreus finally manage to move the heavy stone shelf/door to reveal...
Set into the north and south walls of this corridor are six ten-foot-deep niches filled with dust and cobwebs. Some of the niches contain elaborate, gear-covered contraptions. A makeshift wall composed of wooden planks and braces blocks the eastern end of the hall. You are in the Northeastern most six ten-foot-deep niche and you believe that the makeshift wall is probably the other side of the makeshift wall in the great factory. If you venture to the main hallway you and move westward Shadow can evenly see (his Darkvision is 60 feet, Alben's light spell is 20 feet on Oreus' and Laladak's weapons) about 70 feet from the makeshift wall the hallway opens into a room.
Alben finds (should have rolled Investigation instead of Perception, still make the DC though) four levers, one in each of the easternmost niches and one in each of the westernwest niches.
Levers are always fun, let’s start pulling them and see what happens. Start With the closest one in the north side of the hallway. Most have disabled traps elsewhere so I say we chance it. Shadow goes and pulls the closest lever
After the level in the nitch you entered the room from the gears in the nitch start moving and making noise, and a couple ropes start moving. One rope moves upward from a hole in the floor into an opening in the ceiling, and a second rope (or possibly the same one) moving downward from a hole in the ceiling into the floor below you. Through the open secret door/shelf you can hear a funny humming noise. What do you do? Move on to the next nitch, go back into the empty library, or wait for something to happen?
Shadow goes back into the library to investigate the humming noise. The first thing he noticen is that the mist is swirling around. After a 30 seconds or a minute the room is clear of mist and he can see a wooden ceiling fan moving the air around.
Shadow makes a quick check of the room, now that is is free from mist, but all he sees is empty shelves and a burned lectern. Along with the four dead giant Centipedes.
