- Get cover! - Saoirsesays as she moves to behind one of the nearby trees, hoping this will make the attacker shoot with increased difficulty. Then she readies her new rapier but doesn't yet move to attack. Instead, she will shot a quick glance from the safety of her cover to try to determine how many ambushers there are.
I've added the 7 temporary hps to my sheet. Thanks!
Movement: token updated!

Lam has his new greataxe out faster than seems possible. He hears Saoirse’s words, goes to join her in the trees and tries to assess the situation himself.
Free action: take out the greataxe.
Movement: Move directly to the left of Saoirse (or 5ft below that, if there is a tree trunk right there). I can’t make it happen on the iPad, but I’ll try to get on the computer to do it!
Sha-Gravis presents his shield, and light recedes from the area, which is now bathed in a uniform, soothing twilight. You may add 1d6+2 temporary hp at the end of your turn while within it or end a frightened or charmed condition.
Saoirse runs up to take cover by a tree trunk while unsheathing her rapier. As she glances around, she can see that there are more ambushers than it seemed. The one she noticed first is a bugbear girl, to her east is a young Elf, and appearing from either side of a tree just south of them are two unarmed but extremely fit fairies. All of them appear to be between 16-20 years old in human terms, and they all seem quite determined.
Lam follows, preparing himself for battle, although he has not actually seen any of the attackers just yet.
The bugbear pulls back her bow and releases (16), and a barbed arrow of sharpened wood sinks so deeply into Hemlock's studded leather that you know that it has pierced his abdomen. Take 13 damage (8 for the arrow, 5 from the bugbear's surprise attack racial feature). She shouts in Elvish, "ahora amigos! ¡Finalmente comenzamos a luchar contra los invasores fuera de nuestro hogar!"
now, friends! finally we begin to fight the invaders out of our home!
The elven archer pulls back his bow and releases (14), but the arrow clicks harmlessly against Sha-Gravis'shield and falls to the ground. "Consigue la pantera! ¡Mira cómo trata de esconder el sol de nuestra tierra!"
"get the panther! see how he tries to hide the sun from our land!"
The two fairies fly forwards to Sha, and each try to pummel him with swift blows. The one on the right punches twice (6 and 14) against shield or armor and does no harm, but this opens the one on the left up to land two blows, (a dirty 20 and a Critical Hit), managing to do a total of 12 damage.
It is Hemlock's turn. The fairies had held their actions until after the bugbear's shot, they actually rolled good initiative. All of you can now see all 4 attackers.
Hemlock watches a little dumbfounded as he witnesses Sha-Gravis call out for his goddesses protection, and then suddenly Saoirse and Lam just disappear leaving just the two healers out in the open. If that wasn't enough, he then feels an excruciating pain in his stomach. Looking down he sees the arrow sticking out of his leather jacket.
He then witnesses the attack of the fairies on Sha-Gravis, and is in a little shock.
Through gritted teeth he replies in Elvish, "Invasores? Vengo del árbol del pueblo. No nos hagas pelear contigo, no somos tu enemigo".
"Invaders? We have come from Village tree. Don't make us fight you, we aren't your enemy"
That being said, he removes the arrow, and as he does so his body starts to shimmer and glow as he takes his starry form, the constellation of the life giving Chalice appearing across his body. His instinct is to flee, but he can't leave Sha-Gravis alone with their assailants.
And so he stands, prepared for what is to come but not attacking himself.
"They think we are invaders", he says to Sha-Gravis.
Free Action: Pull the arrow out and talking Bonus Action: Take starry form - Chalice - When you cast a spell that restores hit points, you or a creature within 30 ft. regains 1d8+3 hit points. Action: Dodge
The fairies look at Hemlock in shock. "¡Pero son extraños! ¡Y estás caminando hacia la mina de los invasores!?" He does seem to believe you, however, and both fairies lower their fists, looking quite disappointed in themselves. Hemlock notices how young they seem - just teenagers.
But you're strangers! And you're headed to the invaders' mines!
The bugbear girl shouts out to them "Es un truco!" and notches another arrow. The fairies still look like they believe Hemlock.
Hearing from Hemlock Sha drops Alptraum his warhammer, and holds his shield to the side foregoing it’s defense, “We are not your enemy! We are protectors of Village Tree.”
The fairies speak, a thick elven accent to their common. "No, we're protectors of Village Tree!Cylence say that if we're are protecting our home we need to are ready to fight against our enemigs, and that's what we're doing. You're not even from Village Tree. Who are you?" They hover near you, still on guard, but neither of them continues to hit you. "Why are you making it dark here?"
"Es UN TRUCO!" The bugbear archer shouts again, frustrated and furious.
Saoirse realizes her mistake the moment the rest of attackers appear and get the upper hand so quickly. She hadn't expected them to be so quick - and be so many - so as not to let the rest of the party get cover. More angry at herself than at the ambushers themselves, she moves towards the bugbear and snaps:
- Esto no es ningún truco, maldita sea, ¡dejad de hacer daño a mis amigos!
- This is not a trick, damn it, stop hurting my friends!
Though she's standing next to the bugbear she addresses all of them:
- And did Cylence order you to attack whoever walked the valley on your own, instead of doing it in an organized way with the rest of the Tree's forces? Without paying any attention to the aspect of those you want to attack? Do we even wear any vestment or uniform like the members of the HMC do? Have you stopped to think that we might actually have a good reason to go to those mines, like for example, that we are going there under Cylence and Rhys's orders to investigate?
She then looks to the bugbear and adds:
- No hace ni dos horas he estado escuchando una de las clases que se imparten en el Puesto de Observación Sur, y he visto a los más pequeños decir "Hay innumerables historias, y todas ellas contienen verdad". Nuestra historia es verdad, ¿no vais a hacer caso a lo que dicen vuestras enseñanzas?
Not two hours ago I assisted to one of the classes in Village Tree's Southern Lookout, and saw the young kids say "There are countless stars and all of them are true". Our story is true. Will you not pay heed to your own teachings?
Persuasion roll: nat 20 - 1 = 19.
The blood hunter will then sheathe her rapier, as a means to show the bugbear girl she doesn't intend to attack.
The bugbear looks first angry, then embarrassed, then extremely guilty. Her face flushes enough that even people unused to bugbears can see her blush. She drops her arrow when Saoirse mentions being on orders from Cylence. "No, no dijo nada... solo quería hacer algo por nuestra comunidad!... Y quería mostrarles a mis hermanos que ya no soy una niña pequeña..." She then shouts out to the elven archer, "Frederico, suelta tu arma!" She actively does not look at Hemlock, too ashamed for the moment to address the person she just shot.
No, he didn't give us any orders... I just wanted to do something for our community!... And I wanted to show my brothers that I'm not a little kid anymore.
By the time Lam can react, so much has already happened. His friends get attacked, and Lam almost rushes out to attack in kind, but he gets a look at his new greataxe as he’s doing so and at the same time, hears Hemlock speaking. He decides to wait in cover as all he hears for a while is a bunch of shouting in Elvish. After Saoirse goes out and lectures the attackers and they seem to not be attacking anymore, Lam slowly pokes his head into view and then walks out, still holding his greataxe but with it clearly lowered. His stance is not on alert or ready to attack- Lam still looks pretty confused and embarrassed for not even really being able to tell there was action before it was already over. His shoulders and his face are drooped.
He takes a look at the attackers and notices the other embarrassed bugbear. He notices his friends’ stances and what they’ve done with their weapons, and goes to slowly put his own greataxe away. Having understood about two lines of that exchange, confusion and worry is evident on Lam’s face. He can tell it’s not time to attack right now, but little else beyond that. He focuses on the bugbear and realizes this may be another of the 10 bugbears in The Valley, so he tries the only thing he can think of. “…Do you know Kurt and Kristof? They said they know all bugbears in Valley.” He watches the bugbear and his friends’ faces to try to get a read on what is going on.
The bugbear girl - clearly the ringleader of these teenage 'freedom fighters' - looks Lam up and down. "I thought all outsider bugbears were brutes and thugs? Of course I know Kurt and Kristoff, they am my brothers. Hey!!! Why do you have great-grandpa's axe?! Thief!"
The elven archer walks up to Saoirse and bows his head. "Lo siento mucho, señora. Sabía que esto era una mala idea. No es mucho, pero quiero darles estos Goodberries." He hands Saoirse 5 goodberries.
I'm very sorry, ma'am. I knew this was a bad idea. It's not much, but I'd like to give you these Goodberries.
The teens are all clearly sorry, and discouraged - except for the bugbear girl, who seems to be trying to focus on how Lam got her family's heirloom to avoid talking about how she just shot an firbolg who's on her own side.
Lam looks at the greataxe at his side, knowing this looks pretty bad for him and a little hurt by the 'brutes and thugs' comment. "No-" Lam starts and, realizing he doesn't know what he is about to say, pauses and takes a couple of deep breaths.
When he is ready, he speaks slowly while looking down with a look of deep concentration. "I met Kurt and Kristof at Village Tree. We became friends. They gave me this. Said it was not used since... grandpa came to Valley. Told me I should keep it to remind me there is always a choice. Said I should help and protect."
At this, he looks up at the bugbear. "Kurt and Kristof are nice bugbears. I am glad to be their friend." He watches to see if the bugbear understood any of what he just said. He is sure that in her position, he would be too angry to think.
Now Hemlock knows there will be no further violence, he wanders to a tree and sits down on the ground leaning against it, clutching the wound in his stomach. The blood seems to glow slightly, like the stars covering his body, as it seeps through his similarly glowing fingers.
He looks up at Sha-Gravis, "How are you doing? I should be ok with a little rest, I would like to conserve my magic for the mine".
He then turns to the fairies, speaking to them in Elvish once again, "Nos enviaron a ver qué estaba pasando en la mina. Para averiguar qué están haciendo los invasores e intentar detenerlos. ¿Quizás puedas ayudar guiándonos allí?".
"We were sent to see what is happening at the mine. To find out what the invaders are doing and try and stop them. Perhaps you can help by leading us there?"
"You can lead us to the mines?", he repeats in common, so Sha-Gravis knows what he talking about.
The fire genasi changes her angered look to a stern one when she talks again to the bugbear girl:
- Look, I understand your feelings. You want to defend your land, and that is very noble of you. But this could have ended in tragedy and there would have been no way back from it. You need to match that energy, that desire of helping, with the expertise and leadership of one as seasoned as Cylence. That's why I would encourage you to return to Village Tree at some point and put yourselves in Cylence's hands. I'm sure he will welcome you with open arms and assign you missions according to your level of expertise. That is, I believe, the proper way to achieve what you want.
When addressed by Federico, Saoirsenods and says:
- Thank you. To you I would say this: if you were not sure about her idea, then it's your obligation to express it. A good leader - Saoirse looks at the bugbear girl at this point - must alwayslisten to her team. And a good team - she looks at the rest - needs to disagree with its leader when necessary. Disagreement can be healthy, it will make you all grow and learn. Anyway, thanks for the goodberries, I'm sure they will come in handy when we reach the mines. Who knows for how long we will be there ...
After saying this, and allowing some space for Lamand the bugbear girl to talk about Kurt and Kristoff, Saoirse walks up to Hemlockand Sha to check on them:
- I'm sorry to have left you in the open. I didn't think they would be so many, and that they would be so quick to act. In any case, it was a bad decission and I will try to act better in the future.
Seeing their deep wounds, she turns again to ask the other group:
- It's not a very good time for us to spend magic, as we will surely need everything we have when reaching the mines and facing the HMC people there. I wonder: is any of you able to heal Hemlock and Sha?That would be really helpful. Also - and she nods at Hemlock- Hemlock's suggestion that you guide is is a very good one. My name is Saoirse, by the way. And he is Lam.
"If they gave that to you, i no argue. But you better earn it, or i find you and shoot you too, yes?" The bugbear's expression changes as she appraises Lam."I know few bugbears, and all they are family. You can well find me again, show me what you've got. I mean, show me who you am. I mean, show who you are? Neverminding. I trust you. Sorry."This girl is awkwardly trying to flirt, but although she is technically a young adult, the age difference between her and Lam is significant. "Yes," she says enthusiastically at Hemlock's suggestion, "we show you the way. But they are much many! So go through them very careful!"
When Saoirse speaks, her shoulders sink and her ears droop in abject shame, while her eyes only looked more and more admiringly at Saoirse. The other teens look similarly embarrassed- and inspired in turns - as Saoirse talks, and Frederico ensures you thar he will check in with Cylence at the next opportunity. Frederico (the elf) starts walking to the south-southest, and motions for you all to silently walk alongside the trail.
He looks up at Sha-Gravis, "How are you doing? I should be ok with a little rest, I would like to conserve my magic for the mine". -Hemlock
”I just hope we don’t run into this scenario again. I’m okay. Let’s hope the kobolds are receptive to us repelling the HMC from their mines.”
Sha picks up his warhammer, stretches out, wincing as he feels the bruises beginning to set in. He looks at the faerie that pummeled him with a little admiration, “Um bom batedor de armas nunca esperou golpes tão bons.” -sylvan
“Good arms slugger never expected such good hits.”
"Whoa there you lot, firbolg with an arrow sized hole in his stomach, remember!", Hemlock calls over as he sees the others start to move.
He struggles to his feet and looks around for a stick large enough to aid him in walking. Seeing the elf motion for silence, he assumes that glowing brightly is also a no no, and let's his starry form fade away. This just reveals the extent of the blood covering his leather jerkin.
"Ok, go on, I will keep up as best I can", he says, his eyes fixed on the bugbear girl to see if she will ever look at the damage she caused.

I wonder: is any of you able to heal Hemlock and Sha? That would be really helpful. Also - and she nods at Hemlock - Hemlock's suggestion that you guide is is a very good one. My name is Saoirse, by the way. And he is Lam.

"If they gave that to you, i no argue. But you better earn it, or i find you and shoot you too, yes?" The bugbear's expression changes as she appraises Lam. "I know few bugbears, and all they are family. You can well find me again, show me what you've got. I mean, show me who you am. I mean, show who you are? Neverminding. I trust you. Sorry." This girl is awkwardly trying to flirt, but although she is technically a young adult, the age difference between her and Lam is significant.

”I just hope we don’t run into this scenario again. I’m okay. Let’s hope the kobolds are receptive to us repelling the HMC from their mines.”
Sha picks up his warhammer, stretches out, wincing as he feels the bruises beginning to set in. He looks at the faerie that pummeled him with a little admiration, “Um bom batedor de armas nunca esperou golpes tão bons.”
