"If there are 'monsterbugs' here, I wonder if the flowers are monsters too? How about I uproot one and find out?"
From 30 feet away Mara will use telekinesis (feat) to attempt to uproot one of the flowers right in the middle (10 lbs limit) and see if it elicits any sort of response.
Progo hesitates by digging out another empty vial under the assumption he may try to dig one up to bring back, but he's actually waiting to see if anything happens after the other pick some.
Progo will take out a dagger and try to dig up some dirt and try to dig up a flower by the roots in an attempt to "plant" it in a vial. (Does the stock even fit in the vials opening?)
He then picks about 2 dozen flowers to put in the bag of holding and 2 additional ones that he will hold onto.
"Progo thinks it might nice nice to bring some additional help, if not need to make the leap back and forth a few times if the creature does while we are confronting it. So... Progo don't know how to make this leap on a flower.
(How about 8 vials, 2 each, which leaves Progo with 2 more empty vials)
Progo holds up an empty vial up to the stock of the flower. "Hmmm, Progo thinks it won't fit." And he will look for a smaller , not as grown one to see if he could find one scrawny enough to fit.
"So any thoughts on how to activate these things? Progo wishes if if we could find a door like the armor had"
“These flowers can be used to cross between worlds if you perform a certain ritual. A key component of this ritual is blood from a monstrosity. The thessalhydra is itself a monstrosity, so it can use its own blood to open a gateway. If you wish to track this beast, this is your best path”
"Hmm..I had completely forgotten about the whole 'a certain ritual' business, I had just assumed we pour some monstrosity blood on the flowers and--POOZF!"
"Although if we are discounting the fact that a many headed creature can perform this ritual while being harassed by a number of Sir Tristan's knights, then there shouldn't be too many steps. Should we just pour blood on a flower and test it out?"

“Aye, test it. What’s the worst that could happen!”
(Roughly how many flowers do they see?)
Agreed
D&D since 1984
Many, many flowers. They completely cover the mouth of this cave. Each individual flower is the size of a dinner plate.

You pluck a flower, nothing happens.
"Alright, everyone pick two then." Mara plucks another one.
Fred picks two flowers
D&D since 1984
Thalron plucks two.

Nothing happens. Just the cold biting air and perpetual darkness.

(How many vials of blood do we have?)
Think of a large sunflower 5-6 feet tall. You wouldn’t be able to plant one in a vial. I think you had 5-10 vials of blood? You all tell me.

If you recall, the Princess told you the Thessalhydra performed a simple ritual with its blood and the flowers.

Is anyone pouring blood on the flowers?
