Reed looks at Archie and smiles then looks back at Cherry.
”That one is quite the joker. I mean really, a bath in front of everybody. Good one, Arch.” Reed says then continues “Cherry, grab a few clothes and anything special to you and we’ll get out of here and take you and Nib to where the others are hiding.”
Reed the heads over to Archie and in a lowered voice asks “Are you okay? We’re going to get Nib and Cherry somewhere safe then we’ll go scout the miner’s camp.”
"sorry yeah, I wasn't thinking... I'm fine, I just think I could be doing something to make them feel like there's hope or something... Listen, being alone like cherry has, for however long... Well, the slightest amount of care will go a long way...
The water is warm, we can leave them to it for a short while right? Nib can help cherry? Or at least let me wash some of their extra clothes so they've got something to change into later, to make them feel whole again?" There's something longing in Archie's voice, something that betrays a relatability to Cherry's condition and Archie's helplessness. It's obvious that the state of things in this town has upset Archie a bit even if it cannot be shown on her face.
Cherry scratches her head as Reed asks where the others have gathered, "Well, I don't know? Some are at Thunderbees, which is where I go when I'm hungry, others are at Grandcheeks, oh! Ruby and Thomas are still at Butter's. Probably cause they're too old."
She watches as Archie starts filling up the tin bath. She looks a bit confused as the suit of armor heads to the well several times until she has enough water for the bath. Her state of confusion doesn't change as Archie starts warming the bath, having never seen such a sight in her life. She doesn't even notice when Corlith runs out. Reya starts to run after him, but then decides to stay and see what Archie is up to.
As Reed asks Cherry to get somethings, the girl breaks her trance with Archie and runs in the back, emerging after just a few moments with a few clothes and a doll. Cherry looks at Archie again, hearing the pleading in her voice and then back to Reed and Nib, unsure of what to do. "I can help her with her bath. Why don't you start with the bakery, see what's going on. I've been gone for several days.. and well, I guess I never thought to pool people together. But then again, if we were found, the miners would have the pick of whoever they'd want." Nib starts ushering the rest of you out, letting Reya stay, but the warrior heads out with the rest, not wanting the girl to be any more uncomfortable.
Roo wanders around the little lodge, not understanding what all the hoopla with this small featherless beings is. But as he watches Archie give and and bathe one of them, he nods, then whispers to Corlith conspiratorially.
"Yell at the top of your lungs if there's any trouble," Reed says.
Then he leaves the Longglade home and heads back out on to the road.
"I think we should check on who's still in the village before scouting out the camp," Reed says to the others. "Might be strength in numbers if they collect together."
He leads the group across the plaza to a building they passed earlier - "Butters Bakery".
Archie gives a nod to nib, thankful. "It won't stay hot for too long, use it while you can." And heads out with the rest.
As they're waiting in front of butters bakery Archie takes put a small lever that she bought from the market, she flips it one way with a satisfying 'click' and then back again, 'click'.
Virro feels very out of place in the house, wandering around at first picking up this thing and then that, trying to help straighten up and hearing the commotion about the bath. He is relieved when we are shooed out of the house and the talk revolves back around to finding the miners and their camp. “Volunteers” Eh? Let’s put an end to this.” Virro starts sniffing the air around the bakery, trying to detect customary smells. He looks over at Archie with the clicking to see what the hell is going on.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Nib smiles at Reed as he asks her to yell, "Careful what you wish for." it's apparent she is very happy to have her brother home and she turns to care for Cherry.
As soon as they arrive at the bakery, Virro starts sniffing the air. And to his great disappointment, he doesn't detect a single note of bread or sweets or anything that would denote the building in front of them a bakery.
After a moment, the door cracks open and half of an old man halfling appears in the crack of the door. "Who's out there? Oh! Reed!" he exclaims that last part and the door swings wide. He quickly looks past the small group of you and starts ushering you in, "Hurry, hurry, no need to linger in the doorway, don't you know that's rude?"
He gives Archie, Virro and Roo long glances as he sizes you all up.
Reed notes the look given Archie, Virro and Roo and laughs.
"They're friends," Reed says as he steps inside.
Once settled in the bakery, Reed turns to the old man.
"Thomas, we're here to get rid of the miners once and for all and get everyone back safely" Reed says. "But while we do that, it might be an idea for you and Ruby to leave the bakery and hide with the others."
Corlith turns the corner back onto the street alongside Wilf and walks back towards Cherry's house, spotting some of the others entering another house in the distance, just beyond the well.
"What say we hang around the well for a bit, see who turns up?", he suggests. "After all, if we are going to save the good folks of this town, we need to know who from".
Thomas's face brightens and he calls Ruby to come and join them. "Don't we love hearing that. You know.. I heard rumors that you might have been behind the reason these pesky miners left in the first place. Anything we can do to help." he nods to himself then looks to his wife.
Ruby covers her mouth as she coughs a bit then smiles at the group, in particular Reya, "So good to see such a group! Hide with the others? Well... those ugly men have come on so quickly and taken so many of us, I don't think any of us have had the time to gather? I do believe I know who's here around town still... Reed, where do you think we should try and hide?"
Outside, Corlith and Wilfred hang out by the well, it is truly a beautiful afternoon. And as you linger, waiting for anyone to show their face, you begin to see what Reed was going on about in his quaint little village.
Reed smiles at the mention he might have had something to do with the miners leaving the first time around.
”I think you and Ruby can best help by keeping the people still here calm and safe. Gather everyone in the community hall. It’s stone and the doors can be barricaded. Lots of room for everyone too. And the cellar should still be well stocked. Once you’re safe there we’ll go have a little chat with these brigands.”
"We should come up with a rhythmic knock so that the folk waiting know it's us!" Archie inputs with enthusiasm, she takes a looks toward ruby, "are you ok there? Bad throat?"
Wilfred nods and heads over to the well. If it looks functional, he'll pull up a bucket of water. He splashes some on his face.
"This is a nice town. Seems to be full of good people, too. I hope we aren't too late to help them. I don't want to see anymore families torn apart by oppressors, it just ain't right."
He takes his water skin and fills it. "Thank you, Corlith. You are a good friend. And so are the others. Ah, but no time for sentimentality. Let's keep an eye out for these thugs!"
Corlith looks around as he sits with his back to the well.
"Certainly is peaceful, not like the bustle of Baldur's Gate", he replies as he also takes out his water skin to get a top up following Wilf's lead. "It'll be good to get it back to normal, with a bit of life to the streets".
He then closes his eyes and concentrates on his hearing, hoping to get a bit of early warning of anyone approaching.
"Ah yes, the community center, good thought lad, good thought." Thomas nods in agreement as he says this. "Well, if you want to wait till we're all safe, why don't you all go round up the Thunderbees and the Barleywillows... ah yes and grab Marzin."
"Oh! and grab sweet Cherry do, I do believe the poor child is by herself." Ruby waves off Archie's question, but with an appreciative smile for her concern.
Reya turns to Archie, "Not a bad idea, anything you got in mind before we part ways?"
"Yes yes, and we'll grab the others and meet you at the community center." Thomas's eyes smile along with the rest of him and he seems a bit more spry then when you first walked in. "Reed," and he puts a hand on your shoulder, "sure is good you came back when you did."
"You can thank Nib for that. She came and found me with my new friends. She's with Cherry now," Reed says.
He's about to say more when he suddenly makes a shooing motion with his hands at something only he can see, then says "That's not a place for your feet. Outside, the lot of you."
Reed then turns back to Thomas and Ruby and smiles.
"We'll meet you at the community hall."
He steps outside and spots Corlith and Wilfred by the well.
"The Thunderbee family is in there," Reed says, pointing out the honey and mead shop. Then he remembers the Thunderbees have two kids, one a daughter and thinks of Wilfred. "Maybe you take that one, Corlith. Wilfred, the innkeeper, Marzin Bouldermane is still holed up in the Faded Frog behind you. We're gathering everyone up so they can stay together in the community hall there."
He points out the inn and the community center. Then looks back to the others who were in the bakery.
"The Barleywillow farm is on the other side of the village, up past Cherry's farm. If you grab them, I'll get Cherry and Nib and we can all meet back here at the community center" Reed says. Then he adds "It's a small village, if any one gets in trouble we should all be able to hear a call for help. Oh, and I guess some one should tell Fisk too. He should probably stay here in with the villagers."
He looks over at Reya.
"When we head out to deal with the miners, I'd feel a lot better if the villagers here had an experienced warrior with them. Someone might slip past us. Would you consider staying to help protect them?"
Archie puts a heavy hand gently on Reya's shoulder, " ah yes, parting ways... We shouldn't be long, you look after these people. When we return we'll do this" Archie rattles on the door 'knock, pause, knock, pause, knock, knock, knock, pause' "...then you'll know it's us, don't open up for anyone else, and stay safe, we shouldn't be too long" Archie stands for a moment just looking at Reya before she snaps out of it and begins helping rounding up the last of the villagers instead.
As Reed appears and starts to direct proceeding, Corlith nods and gets up.
"No problem. I will mention your name but best you stay visible Reed, in case they don't trust us strangers. Which after what has happened, is quite likely", he says before looking to Wilf. "Stay cool Pops".
With that he wanders over to the Honey and Mead Shop and knocks on the door.
"Don't be afraid, I am not with the miner's. I am a friend of Reed Underbough. We have come to help", he says in his most persuasive tone through the door, his voice raised but avoiding shouting.
Virro pays attention to Reed and starts to head for the door when he is shooed. “We still don’t have a great idea how many they are, or how they are arranged. I suppose you’ll sneak closer to find that out Reed and then we can sort out what to do?” He turns to Thomas and Ruby, confirming Reed’s instructions saying “Wait for us there and don’t worry, we can take care of ourselves. It will be nice to end this threat for you..”. Virro goes outside and waits, ready for the next part of the plan.
