The IronMaiden takes in the scene with a stoic acceptance of what it is, "a blessing from a god perhaps?, this will benefit us going forth, but we should find this duke and then rest, your organic bodies will become slow and inefficient with lack of sleep... The conjuration has dissipated, this image will not grant another boon."
"Very nice", Corlith says to Reya before turning to Reed.
"Now Reed, what exactly do you mean by 'big insect guys'? Could they be with the Duke, Reya?", he asks, a frown of confusion on his face. "I didn't think it could get weirder than the crabs. It is just so...chaotic down here".
"I'm making some big assumptions here," Reed says as he looks at Reya. "But insectoids the size of big people seem more devil or demon than what I'd expect in Elturel."
Reed then shrugs.
"I'm sure the duke takes what he can get, but I don't get the impression these big bugs are here to help." Reed says. "I could shoot one with an arrow and see what it does."
“Maybe we could…set a trap? I think ole HL has a little more juice in him for a fiery treat, but it may not work on them! Do you see any other ways to attack, Reed?” Virro readies his shield.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
"if we are surprising them from afar I could ask Archie to throw a couple of spears, she is more accurate than I, despite her need for rest" IronMaiden states.
Reed steps through the NE curtain of the circular room, shattered wardrobes and dressing tables, as well as a number of smashed mirrors, suggest that this was once where priests prepared for their daily services. A set of spiral stairs lead down, this was where Reed saw the fiends with the tridents.
Things have changed a bit since he took a peak and the group spent a bit of time discussing. A very tall, colorfully dressed male has emerged from the stairs, as Reed looks a bit closer, he notices that the man's nails are like talons and he has red eyes.
Just as Reed is about to let loose with his arrow to try and distract the creatures, there is a charge that is coming up the stairs. The fiends turn towards the sound, and up the stairs charge a large scorpion and four dretches.
The group starts wondering what is taking Reed so long and their concern grows, so they follow him into the room, half through the doorway he took, half through the NW doorway. The man looks at Reed with his unearthly red eyes, then turns towards the oncoming charge up the stairs.
(I have rolled initiative and the group coming up the stairs are first)
The scorpion charges at one of the fiends and attacks with his claws and stinger. It hits him with one claw, but the fiend is resistant to the 5 damage.
Dretch A squeezes past the scorpion and attacks the other fiend. But both attacks miss. Dretch B moves next to the scorpion and attacks fiend A. Both of his attacks miss as well. The other two dretches just move up the stairs, awaiting their turn. The smell of them all wafts into the room and it makes you gag a bit.
Seeing the weird tall guy ignore the party and focus on creatures that could only be described as dretches, Reed decides the newcomers must be the bigger danger.
He holds himself still, draws an arrow at the first big drench and let’s it fly.
Bonus Action - Steady Aim
Action - Shortbow w/ adv on Dretch A: (20+8)= 28 to hit for (13+9+14) = 36 piercing
Iron Maiden looks to Lulu and Reya saying "with me!" And then promptly moves to the barrier blocking off the stairs and launches themselves over it landing with a metallic think right behind the back most dretch, arms put at their side in a T pose position.
A pulse then rings out as something vibrates in the IronMaiden's chest, the air dances with tiny sparks and a thunderous wave catches all Dretches and the scorpion.
(ThunderwaveAll Dretches and scorpion make a DC 16 con save, or take 6 thunder damage, and be pushed 10ft away, (likely unable to be pushed but maybe it'll unbalance the ones on the stairs) 3 damage on a save)
Corlith watches for a moment, unable to distinguish whether either of these groups were friendly but almost certain neither are.
"We shouldn't get involved, let them wipe each oth.....", he starts to say but it was too late. Reed and Archie had taken a side it seemed.
"Very well", he says with a small sigh. For reasons beyond the fact his friends attacked the newcomers that he doesn't dwell on, when he joins the fight it is the Dretches that he targets first. He calls down radiant fire upon one of them, and then repeats the process using his bracers, targeting the same one if it still stands or another Dretch if it has fallen.
Action: sacred flame against B - DC16 Dex Save or take 3+7=10 [radiant] Bonus Action:sacred flameagainst dretch B, or C if B is dead - DC16 Dex Save or take 5+3=8 [radiant]
Virro looks over top of Reed, seeing the red eyed demonic man coming down the stairs, accompanied by a host of foul creatures. He says “That will not do….” and he points his hand at the man, a ghastly spiritual hand shoots out of it and splits in two. The first ghost hand hits the dark man with red eyes, and the second hits the dretch right beside him.
Chill touch : (Nat 20!) 27 to hit, for 24 points of necrotic damage.
With his reaper ability, a second ghostly hand hits the dretch beside it, 25 to hit, for 2 points of necrotic damage.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Reed's arrow pierces right through the dretches skull and pins the creature against the wall. That one is swiftly eliminated.
As Corlith steps up and makes a swift but unsure decision, dretch B steps away from the first radiant beam, and into the other radiant beam. The heavenly fire singes the creatures fur and it squeals out in pain, but looks around trying to figure out where it came from.
The ghost hand from Virro takes form and attempts to use it's dark necrotic powers against the man, but it does absolutely nothing to him and he turns to Virro and glares. The second hand goes for one of the dretches (there isn't one beside him, those are the fiends, so I'll go for dretch B that Corlith hit) and it squeals once again in pain but not as bad.
The wave of thunder comes from IronMaiden after their sweet move over the halfwall onto the stairs below. Dretch D fails and since he is on the stairs, falls prone. C makes the save, only getting the 3 damage and B gets the full as well, that creature within an inch of his pathetic little demonic life. The scorpion also fails, but runs into other creatures so it stays put.
Lulu, unsure what is going on and doesn't have a real good angle on the scorpion or dretches unless she wants to get in the frey of things, decides to fly into the middle and dodge, waiting to see what happens. Reya follows IronMaiden, looks over the edge and sees she can't get close to the dretches with them there, so she pulls out her new want and sends a charge towards Dretch B, hoping to end it's life.. she does.
The dark man looks at Virro, and you can see he is considering something, finally he speaks, "Are youuuu a demon worshipper?? Go down below where youu belong!!" He pauses a bit longer then turning back to the scorpion, his eyes start to glow and the creature starts writhing in pain, you see it's legs tremble and its stinger straight in the air. Since it rolled 22 on a CON save, only gets half of the 12 necrotic damage.
Mezzoloth A (fiend) moves down to engage the scorpion, both claw and trident hit for a total of 19 damage. Mezzoloth B attacks the now bloodied scorpion as well, but he isn't so lucky and both of his attacks miss.
Round 2
The scorpion tries to take out it's aggression on the mezzoloth that bloodied him, A, but the 22 damage done to the fiend is halved due to resistance and the poison from the stinger seems to have no affect on the devil. He is grappled in the scorpion's pincher though.
Dretch C moves up where B was and bites and claws at the mezzoloth in front of him. Neither hit. Dretch D stands up and turns around and attacks IM. Both of his attacks miss as well.
Dodging, ducking, dipping, diving and dodging the swings from the dretch, the IronMaiden stands assessing the lack of damage before performing an onslaught of swings themselves, first with their hand axe and then with Archie's light hammer,
Swing one with the hand axe misses badly, (nat one for a 6) the second similarly dire (8 to hit) but with a baco swing on the off hand light hammer the weapon finally does something, (12 to hit, 3 bludgeoning) IronMaiden reassesses, these stretches are apparently as slippery as they themselves are.
Corlith continues his assault on the Dretches, but is aware of the red eyed man and how he shrugged off Virgo's attack. And his accusation that Virro was a demon worshipper caught his interest as well.
As he is trying to contemplate the meaning of the enmity between the two groups, he reaches into the mind of one of the Dretches and attempts to psychically stab it. Once again he feels the rush of power granted by his bracers, and decides to repeat the process again.
"The war down below is spilling into the city, it seems. I really think we are best letting them wipe each other out".
Action: mind sliver against Dretch C - DC17 Int Save or take 5+4=9 [psychic], and subtract 1d4 from next saving throw before end of Corlith's next turn Bonus Action:mind sliver against Dretch C, or D if C is dead - DC17 Int Save or take 4+1=5 [psychic], and subtract 1d4 from next saving throw before end of Corlith's next turn
Virro glares right back at the dark man with the red eyes, saying “Who are you to declare who I worship? You have no clue at all. Fine, if my clutching hands can’t grab you, maybe this will!” He points his right hand at the ceiling and a shaft of radiant light shoots down on him, hopefully burning him where his other attack failed.
Casts : Sacred Flame on the dark man with red eyes : DC 15 Dex save or take 9 points of radiant damage.
Reed watches with quite a bit of satisfaction when the dretch is destroyed by his arrow. He then watches the others fight and then sees Virro engage with the odd red-eyed human.
"So we're fighting both?" Reed says with a chipper note in his voice. "I suppose that will make things easier afterwards if they're all dead."
Looking around quickly to see what might be most threatening, he decides the big scorpion is too spider-like for his liking and lines it up carefully and lets an arrow fly.
Bonus Action - Steady Aim
Action - Short bow at the scorpion: (12, 4 + 8) = 20 to hit for (5+5+1+5+3) = 19 piercing
Reed's arrow pierces the scorpion easily and it falters and flails. It almost goes down, but it holds steady. Corlith's mind sliver is no match for Dretch C and holding it's head with it's paws his body succombs to the pain.
Virro's flame does indeed hit, and you can see the damage it does, though the man does not even flinch as he continues to stare at Virro. IronMaiden's last swing hits the Dretch and bloodies it.
Happy with how it worked out last time, Reya sends another two charges from her wand, one at the dretch, the other at the scorpion. The dretch receives 5 force damage and with only 2 hp left of the scorpion, the wand's force takes care of the large creature. Not wanting IronMaiden to be alone on the stairs with the dretch, Lulu flies down, rams the dretch with her little magical tusks and spears it enough to finish off the last dretch.
With the demons disposed of, the mezzoliths lower their weapons and look to the dark man for his reaction to the situation, they dodge as they await direction. He walks straight towards Virro till he's halfway to him. "Youuu.. are you a demon lover? I don't smell it on youuu, so youuu aren't one youurself. But youuu's friends assisted me in eliminating the pests, so I am confused. If youuu wish to die, I can humbly assist and add youuu to my collection of undead." He then looks to the rest of you and almost shouts, "WHY ARE YOUUU HERE?"
"are you the duke?" IronMaiden asks with a runny voice of authority as they clamber to the top of the stairs. "We learned of a Duke here who could assist our endeavours to protect the survivors and return the city to its usual location"
Corlith regards the dark man with suspicion, almost certain this was not the duke they sought.
"You keep strange company", he says to the man, motioning to the Mezzoliths. "Why are you here?", he adds, assuming the response to Ironmaiden will be a no.
He then turns to one of the Mezzoliths, speaking in Infernal to test a theory, "Do you serve him or he you?".
