You open the door to what turns out to be a rather mundane broom cupboard. There are various dusty pieces of clothing, coats, shelves of linen and bedclothes. You rummage around a little but find nothing of interest.
Alcazar wrinkles his nose and looks at Janek, wondering what the warrior will do. "I feel like I'm living in the distant memory of someone else's dream..."
He shakes his head, steps back a pace and waits for the warrior to choose another door.
Janek continues on, moving past the little room. He follows along the same wall, going to the next door he runs into. It's the one on the southern wall, which he now tries to open.
Janek continues on, moving past the little room. He follows along the same wall, going to the next door he runs into. It's the one on the southern wall, which he now tries to open.
The door reveals a small dark room beyond, which contains a wooden tub with clawed feet, a small iron stove with a kettle resting atop it, and a barrel under a spigot in the wall connected to a pipe coming down from above, presumably supplying water. The plumbing looks old and rusty, and where once you would have expected to find water, you see only cobwebs and dirt.
Janek shrugs at the contents of this small room, moving along. The only other doors he sees are the double doors heading north. He tries one of the doors and peers inside.
The double doors to this room have dusty panes of stained glass with a windmill design set into them. You open the doors slowly and with care, wary of what you may find beyond. The doors open to reveal a dusty but large and well-appointed bedroom. From the rich furnishings and size, this is clearly the master suite.
Burgundy drapes cover the windows, with a door leading out onto a small balcony, and a smaller door (currently ajar) revealing a small dusty cupboard full of clothes. Inside the room is an ornate four-poster bed with embroidered curtains and tattered gossamer veils, a matching pair of empty wardrobes, a vanity with a wood-framed mirror and jewelry box, and a comfortable looking padded chair. A tiger-skin rug lies on the floor in front of the fireplace. Once this Tiger rug was probably impressive, but it had rotten over the years and lost much of its hair. Over the fireplace hang two dust-covered portraits of the Master and Mistress of the House - the same people you saw in the family portrait. A web-filled corner of the room contains a table and two chairs. Resting on the dusty tablecloth is an empty porcelain bowl and a matching jug.
Janek glances about the room, then heads over to take a look at the jewelry box. (Investigation: 15)
"Really not much here that isn't moldering from neglect," he muses.
The jewelry box is made of silver with gold filigree and is itself worth a good amount to the right trader (75 gp). Within it you find three gold rings (worth 25 gp each) and a thin platinum necklace with a topaz pendant (worth 750 gp).
(So, a total total worth of 900gp once you can sell the items)
The door to the balcony is unlocked and opens easily - albeit on squeaky unoiled hinges. From the balcony, you can set the shapes of the houses and roofs around you through the mists. However, you cannot see much further as this infernal fog still seems to be sticking around. Looking down, you realise that being on the 3rd floor, you are quite high up really.
You have now explored the third floor fully, and found the stairs to the attic stairs.
The landing/hall at the top of the attic stairs is bare, covered in dust and cobwebs - with various doors leading off the hall. The first door on the right (standing at the top of the stairs) is locked from the outside with a rusty old padlock that has certainly seen better days.
The padlock breaks open, and the door opens easily. The sight that faces you through the open door is bleak and sends shivers down your spine.
The room contains a bricked-up window flanked by two dusty, wood-framed beds sized for children. Closer to the door is a toy chest with windmills painted on its sides and a dollhouse that's a perfect replica of the dreary edifice in which you stand. These furnishings are draped in cobwebs. Lying in the middle of the floor are two small skeletons wearing tattered but familiar clothing. The smaller of the two cradles a stuffed doll that you also recognize as being the same doll that the child in the street was holding.
Janek stands back, just looking into the room for some time. He finally speaks, taking a tentative step into the room. "This is very odd, two skeletons, and the same doll we saw the child outside holding." He inclines his head towards the dollhouse. "And a replica of the very building we are in. That might prove interesting." He steps over to look at the dollhouse, avoiding the skeletons. (Investigation: 12)
You check the doll house, and while you are sure there's something odd about the layout if it all, you can't quite out your finger in it. As you investigate the dollhouse, you become aware of a feeling of being watched. You glance up, and in the room see the ghostly outline of the two children you met outside.
The girl says "Who are you? And what are you doing with *my* dollhouse?"
"My pardon," Janek says, a tiny bit surprised by the ghostly girl. He takes a step away from the dollhouse. "I was just taking a look. So you were actually ghosts when you urged us in here to fight the monster? Is there even a monster in here?" He looks over to the shape of the boy as well. "You looked much more convincing as real children earlier."
As Janek converses with the children, Alcazar smiles at the children then examines the dolls house, careful not to touch it. "Exquisite work..." he says, trying to ingratiate himself with them as best he can. "This must be the model you both spoke of."

"I have never seen you before. But I guess The House lured you in. It does that with new arrivals to this land. Whatever you saw must be an illusion. We died long ago." The girl says l, with a sad look on her face and a gesture to the two skeletons on the floor.
"Our parents locked us in this room. To keep us safe from the monster they said. We often heard screams from the basement. But ... They must have been too busy with the monster. They came less and less often, and often forgot to feed us ... until eventually they did not come back, and we starved."
Looking at the dollhouse she says brightens up a little and says "Yes. It's marvelous, isn't it? It's so detailed you can see everything, even the hidden door from the attic to the cellars." (You can investigate again, with advantage now that you know what to look for)
"Never seen us before?" Janek says, a bit confused. "You are saying the house itself can create illusions?" He takes a moment to take that in. "I guess we have no choice than to... take on whatever monster this house contains." He looks over at the dollhouse. "This hidden door to the cellars leads to the monster?"
"All right, we'll head back here in a bit then." Janek leads the group back out of this bedroom and tries the first door on the left as he exits.

Presuming nobody does, he rummaged through his pack to grab a crowbar. Given the rusty condition, he hopes it might break.
