You follow the sounds to a nearby house. This medium-sized building, about 40 feet square, is boarded up and barricaded from the inside. The crying appears to be that of a female voice, somewhere on the inside.
Nicholas looks around the group as they stand outside the building, noting the muscular build of the one who had introduced themselves as Janek. "You seem fairly strong, want to try bashing the door in?"
"Bloody bunch of gold fish. Have ye all forgotten the last place we visited in this foggy rat trap. The house tried to eat some you using images of children. Best have eyes on your damsel in distress before you march in there. I don't see any of her neighbors coming to her aid. Perhaps find the danger before committing." Puzzled by the groups eagerness to jump right back in to playing heros after almost all being the last property snack as he watches them start towards the screams. Truth be told, Thulewyn didn't blame the others for trying to help before, he doubts he woukd have done anything differently. Possibly he wouldn't have been able to make it through what they did based on the tales. Even now his head says walk past and don't think twice about what's going on in there, but thise screams call to him. What if in his time of need the old shaman had simply plaied it safe and walked past unnoticed. "If you going through with this foolishness, then let's be at it." Thulewyn starts to knock an arrow and follow.
Janek nods at Nicholas' suggestion. He counts out, "1, 2, 3!" He then rushed towards the door, bracing himself to try to force it open. (Athletics: 19, w/Advantage due to Help)
Rodan pats Thulewyn on the shoulder at his strategic advice. "Tha's some right clever thinkin', mate. You go ahead 'n take the point on this one, eh Tulleyw'n? Lead these elvish folks into battle, jus' like that brave Kudgel Delvendoor in them ancient tales o' Myth Drannor. I reckon you've got this, ya know."
As the hand leaves his shoulder, Thulewyn feels a rush of confidence, as the effects of the spell heroism take hold.
[He gains 2 temp hp and is immune to the frightened condition for the next minute, or until Rodan drops concentration.]
The dark haired elf doesn't join him at the door, however. Rodan steps back toward the middle of the road, eyes up on the rooftops and windows above them and hand on the hilt of his longsword.

You slam your full weight into the door, and it gives way to burst off its hinges - falling to the floor inside.
The inside of the house is quite regular, and what you would expect from a typical home. There is a kitchen off to one side, a table and seating in the other direction, and a hearth with a couple of wooden settles clustered around it. At the far end is a steep staircase to the upper floor.
The shutters are all barred from the inside, but not properly locked. The sobbing is much clearer and louder inside, and comes from upstairs.
Not as wary as she perhaps should be, the blonde elven maiden makes her way inside and up the stairs to try to help and comfort whoever is in distress.
"Knock knock," Thulewyn sarcastic says as he steps over the dislodged door. Recognizing the close quarters of the space, he store his bow back on his back as he takes a quick sec to peer into the immediate rooms around corners before following the up the stairs.
You go upstairs, and find a single female sitting on the floor of a large bedroom with two beds. She is dressed in modest traditional garbs, and looks a bit beyond middle age, clutching a child's doll. From the contents of the room around the two beds you surmise that both an adult and a young person, perhaps a child or a teenager lives here.
The woman continues to wail, clutching the doll and cry, entirely absorbed in her grief and barely seems to notice your presence.

Quickly taking in the scene and calling upon the divine blessing of her god to deal with the situation, the blonde elven maiden then kneels by the woman and speaks to her in a soft, gentle and calming melodious voice. "Everything is going to be alright, let me help you." She says, laying a gentle comforting hand on the woman's shoulder. "Is it about your child?"She asks tentatively, hoping to know more without distressing the woman further.
Nicholas follows the others upstairs, looking around the rest of the room while Celeste tries to comfort the woman. So far from what he had seen of this Barovia, it was an absolutely miserable place. While he waits for the conversation to unfold, he takes a closer look around the place, trying to discern if a struggle took place in the home or not.
"Bloody bunch of gold fish. Have ye all forgotten the last place we visited in this foggy rat trap. The house tried to eat some you using images of children.
Alcazar can not help but smile at this. He nods to the newcomer then shrugs. He hangs back as Janek throws himself at the door, wondering where the man finds the energy: With a longing glance at the square, he tries to identify an inn, but slowly follows the others upstairs when the door collapses, warily watching to see if it might rebuild itself.
The woman looks up at you and seems somewhat surprised but also comforted by your kind approach. She looks at you with bloodshot eyes. "My Gertruda! Fourteen years I kept her safe in this wretched place. Fourteen years, she lived happily in this house, safe from the world. And then, tow night ago, she decided to escape our lovely home."
She continues to dry and sob
"Anything might have happened to her. First I thought she might be back, but a night passed, then another. She doesn't have any friends or anyone else. Where could she be?"
She clutches the doll again, a keepsake of her daughter, and continues to wail.

The door, and the entire house, seem totally mundane and non-magical. Nothing happens, and the door remains broken on the floor. You see come tools, wood and nails in the corner, with which a skilled labourer could no doubt fix this door, but it certainly doesn't seem to be doing the fixing itself.
"I want to help you find Gertruda, but to do that I need to understand where I am."The blonde elven maiden says in a soft, gentle and melodious voice, still kneeling gracefully by the woman. "I am Celeste, and like the people I travel with I lost my way into a mysterious fog and ended up in your village. Can you tell me where we are and if you have any idea where your daughter might be and I promise I will look for her."
Seeing the woman crying over her lost daughter made Thulewyn stomach sink. Great, couldn't just be some terrifying creature to kill. Listening to the woman story, Thulewyn couldn't help but wonder, "you two have been in this rotten place for 14 years? If you never let her out, no wonder she gave ya the slip. Why when I was around her age, the world didn't scare me have as much as isolation woukd have. Is there a chance she knew a way out? Or how to navigate the dangers out there? We just arrived and almost didn't make it this far." Thinking for a minute, where would a kid go? Why would they go? Clearly her mother knew the dangers and why not leave herself, together?
The blonde elven maiden gives the dwarf a quick glare. He might be right, but that was not what the worried mother needed to hear right now, and it wouldn't make her more helpful either.
