He nods to Gridolpho as the rogue moves to stalk the probable criminals. Sayyida also considers using the quartet and Merigar all but confirms that the men have connections with the Hailstorm. As the rogue leaves a trail of chalk in the form of nines, the warlock turns his attention to the hydrozoan.
“Quite the contrary, ‘Naut.” Emrys starts taking a sip of his drink. “To anyone, even the captain, we are at most a peculiar crew traveling for some reason. But if he hears that we are traveling after speaking with the Admiral then we become a group moving under instruction of a man that have every interest to stop him. We become a source of information about a dangerous enemy. One capable of working undercover for him.” The notion made him think about spy comedies and how they spoke of double double-agents. “Also, unless it is absolutely necessary and we do not have another alternative, we are attacking someone with an active bounty over their heads or being attacked first, it is not acceptable to end lives on the surface.” That was a gross oversimplification, of course, but should more or less pass the idea. “I say let them report increases our chances of success and killing them may bring more problem that it’s worth it.”
'Naut is taken aback at Emrys' words. "Are you sure? My experiences at sea have taught me otherwise. I will take your word, but with a... grain of salt is the saying, yes?"

"Ignorance is bliss, and you look absolutely miserable."
"And my experience with Black Eye tells me that if he is working for Norwald, he will sure as hell leak some information to him. Black Eye may not be stupid but when i worked with him he sure was gullible."Merigar takes a second to think and look in his notes and continues "But if we all do decide to do the old, cut-throat, cold-blooded, killing sort of thing, i wouldn't underestimate Black Eye."
Merigar turns and looks over at Areleo. "If we go with the stabby method, i would rely on you Areleo to take him down, after all us wizards aren't known for our durability and somebody of the physical prowess like your would be quite sufficient to inflict a good deal of damage, i should believe."
As Gridolpho sneaks up on the quartet to do... something, his hand brushes against the tiefling's tail. The tiefling lets out a screech of surprise and whirls, his yellow eyes meeting the rogue's.
"Who the **** are you?!" the tiefling demands. "Some kind of pickpocket? I should gut you right here an' now..."
He tries to grapple Gridolpho before the lightfoot has a chance to escape...

Everyone besides Gridolpho go ahead and make a Perception check to see if you hear the scuffle. They're a good distance away, so it's going to be a pretty high DC...

Merigar hears the sound of some kind of scuffle from outside, though it's a bit of a ways off and he can't be sure what's actually going on or if it's of any relevance to the party...

Yeah... with that kind of roll, not only does Gridolpho manage to escape the tiefling's clutches, you also trip the guy up in the process. What do you do while this guy is off balance and the other three are too surprised to react?

Gridolpho (I think I'll start putting scenes like this in a spoiler box from this point onwards to avoid confusion about who's involved in what and give you guys a little less temptation to metagame with stuff your characters wouldn't know):
As Gridolpho runs from the quartet, an eldritch blast strikes a wall several inches above the lightfoot's head. If you glanced back, you would notice that the magical blast came from the tiefling.
"Let that fukkin' runt go, Slim," you hear Black Eye say, presumably to the tiefling. "Last thing we need is to get the attention o' a constable by chasin' 'im through the city."
Do you return to the inn or try to keep following the cuthroats from a safe distance?
(I'm going to have to say that only Merigar noticed something was off so far thanks to his high Perception roll, and thus would be the only one who would have heard Grid yelling.)

Yes, it probably has been at least a minute... you turned a corner and ended up in an alley before your ill-fated attempt to slow them down happened.
