Essendrum points in the direction of the shiny thing. “Look, Flint, a shiny thing. At the moment Kiza and I are slowly expiring from Corpse Rot or some similar foul contagion laid upon us by the Thayan. Do be so kind as to retrieve the shiny thing.”
Essendrum looks over his shoulder while he examines the boat. “My magic protected me from the cold. I have been battered a bit by those shards of ice, but lost less blood than when I caught a spiked dwarf thrown by a giant, so no mending for me, thank you. If your god’s goodwill holds, Kiza and I could each use a cure disease. I have no idea how quickly this malady we have will take serious effect or what the result will be. But as I surmise the Thayan went to great pains to inflict it upon us, the delayed symptoms will likely be something to be avoided.”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The shiny glint draws Kiza eyes, and she would normally rush to check it out, but she is racked by coughs. "Essendrum I don't know what we have but it may be the death of us" She then moves over to the boat and also checks to see if its repairable or if web can make it water ready.
Essendrum places his hand on Enoch’s shoulder. “Thank you. I must admit to being curious as to what horrible form my death would take, but I think I can learn to live without knowing.”
Spike makes a closer inspection of the stalagmites. Embedded into the ice are several coins of gold and silver, a few gems, a skeletal arm with a ring on the index finger, a dagger, a scroll case, and a bag at the very bottom of one of the stalagmites. All items are encased deep into the ice and you estimate it would take a while to chop through the ice to get to them.
Essendrum & Kiza inspect the damage to the boat. Both of you find the boat, without the proper tools and materials, is beyond repair at this time.
After a few moments of prayer, Enoch channels holy energy to his hands and touches both Essendrum & Kiza. The energy spreads through their body with a slightly golden glow. Both stop suddenly and a harsh, rough-sounding cough takes over their bodies. They collapse onto the icy ground as they are assaulted by involuntary muscle spasms causing difficulty breathing and blurred vision as their eyes tear up. The cough is so great it echos through the cavern and drowns out the sounds of the rushing waters that surround you all. The coughing continues as they start to spew up a red oozing liquid from their mouths and nostrils, surrounded by the same golden glow that had surrounded Enoch's hands when he touched them. It has the consistency more of a pudding that has spent too much time drying in the sun than any liquid but within the seconds it is out of their bodies it starts to dissipate into dust on the cool breeze within the cavern. After blinking a couple of times Kiza & Essendrum find they feel much better than they had and they can tell a complete difference in how they have felt in the past hour vs. now. It seems this "disease" was taking a greater toll than both had realized but with Enoch's help, it appears it has been vanquished.
Kiza shakily stands after nearly coughing up her lungs. She hangs her head low for a moment catching her breath. Her voice is hoarse as she turns to Enoch "Thank you my friend. You saved my life from whatever that red sludge was. Unfortunately, the boat is of no use to us as its beyond repair."
"Does someone have a way to get rid of this ice without harming the items underneath? Otherwise this will take quite some time," says Spike, showing what he has found.
"If you like, I can fly over to the island and look at it to see if there is anything there useful," he adds.

Enoch blinked, and held back a sigh of relief. He hadn't realized what exactly had been going on with his companions, but he was certainly glad it was dealt with now.

"If you like, I can fly over to the island and look at it to see if there is anything there useful," he adds.
"A fire might work to melt it,"came the suggestion, "and it wouldn't hurt if we warmed ourselves up for an hour, either, I'd think."
He then looked at the dark waters. "Hmmm... maybe it's better if you hold off on your flight until afterwards?"
Essendrum nods. “If Enoch and Kiza stand back by the gate and hold a rope with one end tied to me and the other to the gate, I think Spike and I can retrieve these objects. I can melt away any ice not close to the precious items and then Spike can chop away the last bit so as not to risk damaging them or having them wash into the river. The rope will keep me from washing away and Spike can fly. Or does anyone have any other suggestions?”
"Sounds good to me,"nodded Enoch as he retrieved his rope. He handed one end to Essendrum, then tied the other end to the gate uphill, finally grasping the slack (while leaving room for Kiza to grab it as well.)
Essendrum ties the rope to his waist and goes over to the stalagmite. When Spike has his axe and other sharp implements ready to pick out the treasure, he will melt away enough ice to give Spike access. He’ll use prestidigitation to warm ice to gently melt it away where appropriate, and Firebolt for any large and stubborn work that is will away from anything that might burn or wash away if disturbed.
While having surprising few large scale weapons other than his many spikes, Spike does have a smithing toolkit that makes short work of thin ice and detail work once the thickest portions are melted away.

It takes much longer than you anticipate but after about an hour, you extract all the items you saw. During this time you also find, inside another stalagmite, several other coins and 2 gems.
Absent anyone moving him along, Essendrum will cast detect magic and examine the items. He’ll also inspect the scroll tube to see if there is a spell scroll inside, and if so, what spell it is.

During this time Essendrum, Kiza, and Spike catch a glint of something shiny coming from one of the stalagmites at the edge of the platform.

Shrugging, Spike heads over to the stalagmite and looks for the glint Essendrum has mentioned.

Speaking through his teeth to make himself comprehensible, despite shivering, Enoch asks, "A-a-anyone else need a little healing?"
