Seeing the woman struggle within the demonhost.. Kalhala struggled with what he was seeing. But as the demonhost took hold once again, his resolve strengthened.. but the fire kept Kalhala at bay. He pulls out his handaxe and throws it at it.
Norril - You catch the demonhost off guard, your blade slashing a grievous wound across its front. The second attack gashes its forearms as it tries to block your onslaught.
Jowyn is up! Followed by Commander Emberstone, then the demonhost.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Jowyn steps to the demonhost, leaving room as best she can for Commander Emberstone and the others. "The dawn will come and your dark essence must flee before it! Yield this woman and face judgement!"
Jowyn swings her bright mace for nonlethal damage, should she hit through this smoke.
Jowyn - The demonhost roars in response and knocks your mace away.
Commander Emberstone continues to swing away at the demonhost, missing his first strike but drawing more black blood with the second.
The demonhost shrieks and stumbles, then falls to its knees. You see it struggling to maintain possession of Janielle. The glow of protection cast by Jowyn intensifies and the demonic features on Janielle's body begin to recede. The demonhost roars, "NOOOOOO!" Then vomits thick black ichor all over the ground before it. The ooze sizzles and stinks at it hits the flames nearby, but you see that Janielle's body now appears completely free of corruption. Commander Emberstone yells above the din of battle, "The demon has been exorcised! Keep your eyes open, don't let it escape!" Even as he speaks, the black ooze bubbles and roils, then a portion of it suddenly lashes out like a viper, seeking a new host!
Commander Emberstone crouches protectively over Janielle. You can see that despite her wounds, she still breathes. He turns to Jowyn, "We must contain the demon or it will keep seeking a new host!" He reaches down and snaps the chain holding the Emberheart Amulet around Janielle's neck before standing and handing it to Jowyn, "Here, we can trap it in this until such a time that it can be properly banished back to the nine hells." Commander Emberstone turns to you all and says, "Stay back, don't let it touch you but keep it contained!" You all hear Jowyn say, "I know of a spell that can contain the demon but I may need help in casting it. Repeat after me my brothers and sisters!" Jowyn leads you all in shouted prayer as they begin casting the spell.
Jowyn - You hear and feel yourself speaking to those around you and the knowledge of how to cast the containment spell is suddenly made known to you. What prayer do you shout as you begin casting the spell?
All - You can choose to spend you action focusing on lending your faithfulness to the spell that Jowyn is attempting. The DC to cast the spell is 18 and it is reduced by 2 for each person focusing on the prayer.
Lash is up! Followed by Cuervo, then Kalhala, then Norril.
Lash isn't exactly the faithful type. He may repeat chanted words or such but his heart would never be in it. He can however focus on using his eldritch blasts and his whip to help keep the beast from escaping and so he puts his main focus there.
Kalhala nods to Jowyn as she asks for people to chant after her. He doesn't exactly trust his voice in this other body, but he'll sure try. He focuses on the prayer as best he can and follows her lead.
Cuervo's success (or rather lack of) with her bow, makes the decision easy, and so she joins in with the prayer - hoping that she can at least offer some help in this way.
Jowyn - You feel the spell growing more stable as each of your companions lends their faithfulness to your efforts. With every repetition of the litany, a golden glow pulses around you, driving the demon back in waves. The glow reaches its zenith as the spell matrix is set and you steel yourself for the hardest part, wrestling the demon into its prison.
Please make a DC 12 Religion check to determine if you are successful in casting the containment spell this round. You have gained inspiration for the effort you've put into role-playing Jowyn during this encounter, well done!
Jowyn - Even in its unrealized form the demon still resists you. Not with brute strength but by sheer lubriciousness. It is like trying to scoop an oil sheen from the surface of water, the demon keps finding a way to slip through your hold. There is a hole in the matrix, allowing the demon an avenue for escape.
Commander Emberstone swings his longsword at the demon, blocking its escape as it tries to slip past.
But it was merely a feint, and the demon quickly darts the other way, scuttling by Commander Emberstone toward Lash! Sensing his lack of faith, the demon gathers itself and pounces on Lash, "Your soul is mine!" Lash hears the demon's voice boom in his head and feels the disgusting stickiness of its form covering his chest, neck, and face!
Lash, please make a DC 13 CHA Saving throw to resist possession by the demon!
Lash - You gag as the demon ooze forces itself into the orifices in your face, fighting to both draw breath and scream. Everywhere the ooze touches you feel intense, burning pain and your body begins to convulse... Then suddenly, nothing. You feel nothing, but you can still see. You watch as your body stands, covered in black ichor. You watch as you brandish your whip, boils and fur beginning to manifest on your arm... Stuck in this void, but watching the demon move your body like a marionette, you begin to sense something... Loss... Like you've lost something... Something you didn't pay much mind to before, but now that it's gone, the hole where it once was is jarring. It isn't a physical sensation, but you feel it nonetheless...
All - You watch Lash struggle to get the ooze off of himself, but it sticks to everything it touches, crawling quickly up his body. Boils and patches of matted filthy fur begin to erupt across his body and he stops struggling. With a manic grin, the Lash Demonhost stands and give its whip a test crack. It turns to Jowyn and laughs as it strikes out with the whip, but as it is still getting used to its new host, the attack misses!
Cuervo is up! Followed by Kalhala, then Norril, then Jowyn! You may continue to use your action to assist Jowyn in the prayer if you'd like. The DC to successfully cast the spell has increased since the demon found a new host. The DC is now 20, reduced by 2 for every person lending their focus to Jowyn.
Cuervo is conflicted. Sure, she hardly knows the remainder of the group, and her own skin feels somewhat precious to her...but deep-down, she knows innately what's right. Unsure if harming Lash will actually kill him, she raises her bow, then lowers it - and instead continues to assist in the prayer.

Cuervo is up, followed by Jowyn.
Lo, before the Dawn, the Darkness must recede.
The Morninglord bindeth thee!
Lo, before the Morninglord all evil must concede.
The Morninglord bindeth thee!
Spawn of Enmity, now wallow in thy rage,
The Morninglord bindeth thee!
And bindeth be unto this chosen cage!
The Morninglord bindeth thee!

(OOC: Hey, thanks boss!)
Jowyn's forehead is damp with sweat as she holds the amulet out before her. "...the Morninglord bindeth thee... the Morninglord bindeth thee..."

Lash laughs and readies to whip out another Eldritch Blast. Arm pulled back, Lash starts to twist his body… and then stops.
