Reggie waits for the others to gather, watching as Tilo disappears into the fog. Once the young man is about 20 feet down the path, Reggie follows, keeping his swords at the ready, and watching for anything their scout might have missed.
As Tilo scouts ahead, the fog in these parts begin to lessen a bit. You continue to scan all around you for any signs of danger but don't seem to find any. The sound of the wolves can still be heard but they aren't getting any further away from you, they seem to be keeping pace with you somewhere to the north.
Towering trees, whose tops are lost in heavy gray mist, block out all but a death-gray light. The tree trunks are unnaturally close to one another, and the woods have the silence of a forgotten grave, yet exude the feeling of an unvoiced scream.
As Tilo looks around he catches the scent of death on the air.

Tilo looks around suppressing a shutter as a chill creeps up his spine at the eerie surrounds. He catches a whiff of rot and decay and is immediately reminded of their forays against the necromancer and his undead minions. Catching Reggie's eyes he flashes a few hand signs with his free hand [Possible hostiles near; location unknown] before continuing forward under the light of his moon-touched shortsword. Straining his senses for further signs of the undead.

"Tilo says to be on guard," Reggie whispers back to Andrei. "He's picked up something." He adjusts his grip on his swords and continues moving along carefully.
Artus grunts in acknowledgment and his giant hands grasp tighter around his greataxe. The steam from his heavy breathing blowing out of his nostrils. He stays alert and watches from the rear of the group, making sure to keep an eye out for the wolves they heard behind them, always peering over his shoulder.

As Tilo continues onward he comes across a road that travels east and west. The scent of death he smelled is close by and he could follow it to its source is he wishes.
Black pools of water stand like dark mirrors in and around the muddy roadway. Giant trees loom on both sides of the road, their branches clawing at the mist.
You can finally see the sky since you are out of the woods and you notice rolling thunderclouds cast a gray pall over the land. It is early morning and the sun is out but it casts a dim light through all the mist and fog all around you.

As the group follow Tilo's lead, Artus gets a whiff of the decay that is in the air. Remembering the fight with the necromancer and his undead minions, Artus' grip gets a little tighter and a rage starts to boil from deep down inside him. He keeps it under control for now, but knows what might lie ahead of them. Artus maintains a keen eye on the path behind him for anything suspicious moving in the shadows.
Reggie stops suddenly as Tilo's still form begins to materialize out of the fog in front of them. When he realizes the scout has simply paused to look around, Reggie continues walking forward. The fighter looks around as the fog thins at the pools, the trees, and the road. "Nothing?" Reggie asks Tilo quietly. He begins to notice the foul scent, but doesn't comment on it. When Artus sidles up beside them, asking what they're looking at, Reggie looks at Andrei and Lando. "Have any idea yet how we got here ... and where here is?"
Lando shakes his head. "I haven't the slightest clue. There is something not quite right with this fog; from what I can discern it has a magical nature about it. At least we are on a road, albeit a muddy one. Best be on our toes; those howls don't seem to be getting any further away"
Andrei wrinkles his nose only slightly, mostly used to such odors.
"We should go faster," he says, beginning to quicken his pace.
You guys are stopped at the road that goes east to west. The path you were on goes north back into the woods. The smell of death is very close by and you could probably follow it to its source if you wish. But you are stopped at the moment. You need to let me know what you guys are doing.
Reggie looks at Tilo, who is already heading east. Reggie waits for the scout to get about 20 feet ahead and then follows, leading the rest of the group.
The foul scent leads you to a human corpse half-buried in the underbrush about fifteen feet from the road. The young man appears to be a commoner. His muddy clothes are torn and raked with claw marks. Crows have been at the body, which is surrounded by the paw prints. The man has obviously been dead for several days. He holds a crumpled envelope in one hand.
Tilo pauses at the body, waiting for the others to catch up. "Looks like wolves got to him, don't know if that was before or after he died though." Tilo grabs the envelope from the dead man's hands and gives it to Reggie before inspecting the body for cause of death.
Not sure what I should roll for that (medicine? investigation?), so I'll wait for DM's call then roll in discord.

Reggie hands the envelope to Andrei without looking at it as his eyes scan the area for anything pertaining to the man (horse, cart, house, campsite, belongings) or his attacker (actual beast or person, not tracks).

"Careful," Andrei mutters as Tilo leaves, barely loud enough for him to hear. Andrei waits for the others to get up before starting off after Reggie.
And that's all I have to say about that.

Oops. Ignore that last part of my post, then.
Andrei tries to discern which direction (east or west) the smell is strongest from.
And that's all I have to say about that.
You can follow the smell if you want. It is strongest to the east.
