Cadoras greets Guardokand Rubina as well as they arrive. "Being late is very understandable for you two! Glad you came!" He keeps the introduction brief and keeps to the background as Meishows her work. It's a bit uncharacteristic of him, but he definitely seems to want the purple-haired girl to be the center of attention for the moment.
Rubina seems to study the painting along with the others. She finally comments. "It is quite an interesting painting. A little hard to make out the figure, but I presume that's intentional." When she hears Malvynask about the audience, she grins. "Oh, I suppose the audience was better last night. But the shows went really well I think." She looks at Guardok, "Don't you think so?"
Aurora turns to speak with Mei. "It is a very interesting piece. You say this was a vision? Or is this what you actually saw? I wonder what it all means. Perhaps someone will see something they recognize in this. It's not anything I recognize though."
((OOC: I know it's not been asked for, but to Volcano's point, if you'd like a roll for the painting, DM, Performance (if that would be apt, but could also do Painter's Supplies check if you'd rather): 12 (portent)+3= 15 + 3(guidance) + 2(student die)= 20))
Guardok smiles back at Mei, the usual purplish glow in his cheeks as he blushes at the compliment regarding his suit. He then turns his attention back to the painting whilst conversing, throwing Cadoras a thumbs up..
"Rubina picked it out for me. I really like it as well. And course I was going to come and support you, especially after how far you travelled to the gymnastics", he replies, staring closely at the painting.
He hears Rubina answer Mal's question about today's performance, and adds, "Two more shows down, one more to go tomorrow. They definitely went well, but you are right, the audience lacked a little something".
Hearing Aurora mention the painting is of Mei's experience with Disyn, he nods, stroking his chin.
"In truth, I don't know a lot about art and paintings, but I like it. It does have a sort of otherworldly quality to it. Is the lady figure you? Was your vision like an out of body experience?".
(OOC: Mei - According to Xanathar's that 20 means you can create a painting with a hidden message. I wonder if it is hidden even from you? That would be cool)
Guardok's stomach rumbles just as Mei mentions food.
(Figured I'd move this part down here to let you get that reply in, Volcano lol!)
Mei glances back at Cadoras, feeling his absence and meaning to ask him something before Aurora and Guardok address her. "Oh, th-that's okay! I figured it'd be a long shot. But, yes! It was a vision. It didn't feel... out of body. Then again, I always feel very present in what I experience. Even if it can be hard to see or make out sometimes," she nods at the blurry effect of the painting. "Maybe next year's gala I'll submit something a bit less, um... abstruse," she says with a small, self-deprecating laugh.
Shying a bit under all the attention, she pivots, "B-But anyways, there's so much more to look at! I really recommend seeing Cadoras' sculpture too, especially while you've got the prodigy himself here." Mei smiles at both the elf and genasi especially as she amends, "Or we could get you two some food first."
Guardok stands for a moment more regarding the painting closely, before stepping backwards, still looking at the painting. After a few moments he steps in close again.
"It's amazing. I can see the brush strokes and a bit of the technique from up close and then how it merges together when I step away. I can see why you like painting Mei. How you get so much detail is remarkable", he says, granting Mei some inspiration.
His stomach rumbles again, like stones rolling down a hill.
"Perhaps some food would be a good idea before I look around", he says with a chuckle.
He finally turns away from Mei's painting, and looks across to the food station, checking for signs of Quentillius' arrival at the same time.
(OOC: Bardic Inspiration 1d6 for Mei to use in the next 10 minutes)
The purple-skinned tiefling quickly offers the last snacks he had sampled to Guardok and Cadoras, who he figures have the most desperate need for them. "Well I'm ready to see what you have created Cadoras." He says to the green-haired elf.
Guardok gratefully takes the offered snack. "Thanks Mal, this will keep me going while I wander over to the proper food", he says with a cheeky smile to his friend.
"Bad luck, Cadoras. I guess you will have to wait for yours, you have work to do", he teases as Mal looks to drag the elf to his sculpture instead of letting him grab some proper food.
Mei grins and gives Cadoras a conciliatory squeeze of his hand as she leans in to stage-whisper, "I'll bring you a big plate."
She then looks to Mae, Larine, Aurora, and Rubina. "Any requests? Drinks? Snacks? I've got my Helper for an extra pair of--" her brow furrows, "--hands?"
Mae smiled a little. "Oh, that's all right Mei, I'm sure our hands are quite capable." She grinned more. "Do you have to stay here with your picture? Or are you going to come with us to get something to eat and return?"She then looked over at Larine with a slight bump of her hip.
"I don't, um--" she looks at her painting, then at Cadoras in case he might know, "--I don't think so? Since it's not a performance piece?" She arranges the fabric cover around the bottom of the canvas like a pool of shadow and nods at the small placard with her name and the title of the piece. "It has my name on the little thingy too!"
Whenever everyone who's going seems ready, she'll head to the food tables (unless she does, in fact, need to stay with her painting).
With a big grin, Cadoras leans over and stage whispers back to Mei. "Or we could both get plates together." He gives her a wink and then says to the whole group, "I would love to show you my sculpture, but perhaps we grab some food first. We do have the whole evening ahead of us! If that is alright with you Malvyn?" He then nods towards Guardok. "We do have grumbling stomachs to tend to!"
Aurora and Rubina both decline Mei'soffer of her invisible servant fetching things for them. "I think I can manage," Rubina says. "I can always get Mal to carry things for me if necessary," Aurora adds with a grin towards the tiefling.
Larine just grins back at Maeas she bumps into her. In her quiet voice she says, "Shall we go see what they're serving?"
(OOC - There is no need that anyone knows of for the artist to stay by their artwork. With the roll, you were able to essentially achieve a very good representation of exactly what you saw in the vision. It is actually a bit eerie to Mei, who is used to having these images in her head, but not permanently displayed in front of her.)
Mei's posture straightens at the wink. She offers a rapid, wordless nod in reply, her face suddenly flush.
As they all make their way towards the food, she casts a glance over her shoulder at the painting. Has she invited a strange energy here? By bringing what was meant to be a fleeting vision into such permanency? Perhaps it was a window not meant to be kept open...
Shaking her head of those thoughts, she suddenly pipes up, "Guardok, I don't think you were here yet when we talked about what inspires music. Like hearing a painting. Do you experience that as well?" She looks between the three bards, expression thoughtful, "Do people inspire sound too? Like... Malvyn is low notes on a piano and a slow violin? And Larine sounds like... a soft kalimba melody?"
"Ooh, that's interesting, Mei. All sorts of things inspire music. People, a sunrise, a mood or a smell even. Why not a painting? They evoke emotions, right? I play a few instruments, but I am not the most musical performer. There is not a lot of subtlety to my favourite instrument, my maracas, for example. They are inspired by my movements and normally when I am in a positive mood. I expect there are more musical performers, like Mae, Aurora and Rubina, that might well have a melody running through their minds, as their creative juices constantly flow. Perhaps that changes based on their senses, and that is how they hear a painting", Guardok replies, obviously thinking hard on the matter.
He shrugs, as if he has just heard himself talk a lot of rubbish.
"As for Mal here, I would say he is definitely the sweet harmony of a flute and harp, the smoothie", he then adds with a giggle.
The purple-skinned tiefling simply nods to the green-haired elf, his fractal sculpture could of course wait until everyone had a some more food and drink. He knew all too well that a grumbling stomach was nothing to be taken lightly. "That is what you keep me around for after all." He says with a grin back to the raven-haired performer at his side.
He listens with interest as Mei and Guardok starts talking, feeling a little bit awkward as both Mei and Guardok shared their thoughts on what sounds he would evoke or inspire. Perhaps he was simply not particularly musical but he admittedly never had any person or scene evoke music in his mind, the other way around though he was quite familiar with, glancing over at Aurora with an affectionate smile. "As long as the music is well tuned and easy on the ear I suppose it would be a compliment to inspire sound." He says with an awkward shrug.
Maeleve nodded at Larine and took her hand to start over toward the food. "I would agree, anything can inspire me, sometimes I really never know what will. I wonder, Mal, if not perhaps some of us get inspired in a similar way to how you get fascinated with a mystery. When it catches you, you simply must chase it down. Understand it." She gave a half shrug and began looking over the available food selection, letting go of Larine's hand and trying to decide what she wanted.
Aurora places a hand on Malvyn'sshoulder as they walk. "Well, it isn't the only reason I keep you around Mal. But maybe one of them."
As the group arrives back towards the entrance, they find the space a bit more filled with people than before. It does appear food has been served now. There are selections of cut up fruit, cold cuts, cheeses, and bread. In addition, there are a few other more finger food options - skewers with meet and peppers, fire-grilled vegetables, and fried mushrooms among other things. Cadoras jumps right in, grabbing one of the small plates and starting to fill it. "These plates are going to be totally inadequate," he jokes.
Just as Meiis about ready to grab a plate herself, she hears a voice behind her. The others can see the source of the voice before she does, Quentillius. He is dressed in fine blue suit with reddish accents - hinting at the colors of Prismari. "Excused me Mei, I brought these for you." You can all see he is carrying a small bouquet of various flowers.
Mei is still thinking on what Guardok said and the evocative nature of life and the senses, when Cadoras jokes about the plates. “Should I conjure the floating disk as a plate instead?” she teases.
It’s a lucky thing she hasn’t grabbed her own plate yet, as it likely would’ve been dropped in surprise. Turning round, hand pressed to her chest to encourage her surprised heart to stay inside, Mei is hit threefold: first, that he's here at all, second, by the suit; and third, the flowers. "F-For me?" she stammers, and can't help but look for that blonde-haired student. "That's--oh, that's incredibly thoughtful."Her lashes flutter as she looks up at him, confusion writ across her face. "You came here to see--? How did you know I was--?"
Cadoras laughs loudly. "Ooo! A floating disk for a plate. That sounds just about right." He looks as though he might continue but quiets as Meiturns to Quentillius.
Quentillius clears his throat. "Well, I had inquired with Guardok about it. I wasn't sure if flowers were appropriate for the visual arts like it is for performance, but I just wanted to offer you a congratulations for your work." He pauses, "I do hope I will get to see it here shortly."
Mei casts a wide-eyed glance at Guardok, which shifts to linger briefly on Cadoras. Gathering herself, she smiles brightly and nods, "I think flowers are always appropriate." She grazes her knuckles along the underside of some of the petals, head tipping to one side, "And they're really like little works of art themselves."
"Oh, but you must be hungry--you all came straight from the, um, the performance, right? My painting isn't going anywhere," she laughs. Though, it wouldn't be the first time an inanimate object has sprung to life here on campus. "Unless you can't stay long?"
Cadoras greets Guardok and Rubina as well as they arrive. "Being late is very understandable for you two! Glad you came!" He keeps the introduction brief and keeps to the background as Mei shows her work. It's a bit uncharacteristic of him, but he definitely seems to want the purple-haired girl to be the center of attention for the moment.
