“It was a good afternoon, thanks Malvyn,” whenever Mal’s with Aurora Knap can’t help having the biggest smile, “bit of study, and working on some drawing plans for a hanging gardens fourth floor tree house extension.”
"Oh, planning to expand the fourth floor, that sounds lovely Knap, but perhaps we should check in with the university about actually building an adjoining tree house to the fourth floor of Dresar Hall, I'm happy to help you with that though." The purple-skinned Tiefling says, hoping he doesn't sound overly formal, mostly wanting his room mate not getting into any trouble with his good intentions. He is relieved to see the big smile on his friend, smiling back at the behatted Satyr.
"I'm looking forward to that performance then." Malvyn says with a friendly smile, looking between Aurora and Mae, hoping whatever was going on between them would be worked out.
As Mei describes her dreams Malvyn gets a look of excitement and concern. He had a strong feeling the dreams were more than just that, maybe some sort of premonitions of what's to come even and the Tiefling has an urge to go and check the kitchen right away but doesn't want to overraect or worry the others, instead taking another sip of his red wine. He can't help but chuckle at Cadoras comment, hoping Mei wasn't offended or anything about the green-haired Elf not taking her dreams more seriously. "Evidently not." He says with a small smile as the waitress just then returns with their dishes. "I suppose our desserts might still be at risk though." He adds with a wink to the Elf.
“Just thinking about forms and magic and maths and architectures and flows of power. But sure Malvyn, I’ll let you write the application for a renovation permit if it comes to that.”
on mention of dreams, the satyr says to Mei, “I’ve been thinking about an old Druid trick for tricky dreams, to ease them. Usually you’d want to go sleep somewhere above a flowing underground water source, but just as potent is a bowl of water under the bed. Sounds a bit basic but it could help.”
Contrary to Malvyn's worries, Mei--who had become quite tense while recounting the Dream--finds Cadroas' lightheartedness and Knap's suggestion a balm for her frayed nerves. She smiles at them both, tension easing from her shoulders.
"I did go check on the kitchen when we got here, but was told nothing seemed... amiss? But Mae, please be careful when you're working here, okay? And you too," she says to Aurora, who she's seen here just as often.
Of Knap's trick, Mei considers it thoughtfully. "I'll have to try that! I've thought about asking to sleep with you all when they're bad, but a bowl under the bed is much simpler," she laughs. The laugh turns into a choke as she realizes how that might've come off. "Not sleeping like--I just meant--! It can be comforting when someone else is there!" Her face turns bright red as she takes a long pull from her glass of water.
Guardok quietly ponders Mei's description of her dream, holding his belly as it quietly rumbles. He knows from the circus that fortune telling is not something to take lightly, and so doesn't join in when Cadoras jokes about their dinners getting burned.
He does get a little distracted by Knap's planned refurbishment though, but happily tucks into his food as soon as it arrives.
"I have lived around a fortune teller pretty much all my life", he says between mouthfuls. "I confess I am inclined to take Mei's dreams seriously", he adds looking to Mae and Aurora as Mei asks them to be careful.
Mei sets her glass down with a grateful look to Guardok. She knows anyone not from this plane is likely unfamiliar with the Dreamers of the Grove. But his trust in her means far more than those who would take heed simply because of knowing her family's fame.
Aurora nods towards Mei. "I will of course be careful. I do spend the majority of my evenings here at the Bow's End. Though not near the kitchen." She gives a quick glance towards Mae, knowing that, as she works here, she is in and out of the kitchen all the time. There is a slight hint of concern, but she turns her attention back to Malvyn.
Cadoras looks relieved for a moment as Malvynmentions their meals being safe. But at the mention of desserts he cries out, "Oh no! Not the desserts! We should order right away to hopefully dodge any dessert disasters." He motions for a waitress and when she comes, he orders a piece of their cake, to be drizzled with chocolate and covered with extra whipped cream. Those who are observant might notice that the elf has not actually ordered any actual food yet for himself though.
Mei leans over to nudge against Cadoras with her shoulder. "Are you having dessert for dinner?" she asks with a grin, wondering if he's going to order a proper meal. She suddenly finds herself curious which of them--Cadoras or Guardok--could put more food away.
"I think all our food will be safe tonight. I didn't get the feeling it was something that would happen... immediately? Maybe whoever is responsible is lying low while the fuss over the frogs dies down?"
"Well, I certainly don't mind dessert for dinner, so I think I'll just stick with my order!" Cadoras gives Meia grin. "You should give it a try sometime. Though I could... ah... no... maybe... umm... share? The dessert. If you wanted a taste?" His silly grin is still present although he does make a face like it is taking great effort to give up any of his precious dessert.
Mei is quite certain she's never seen Cadoras share his food. Though, given his proclivities towards strange flavor combinations, she supposes he wasn't usually asked to. Still, the offer catches her off guard.
"Oh! R-Really? I... um... yes! Just a--" she audibly swallows, "--t-taste. But only if you try me--mine! Mine too." She orders whatever on the menu she thinks he'd like best--meat or no-- hoping she can tempt him into a proper meal too.
As Mei warns Mae and Aurora about the kitchen, Malvyn too gets a look of concern, glancing between the two performers, briefly taking the hand of Aurora to give it a reassuring squeeze. He would most likely be there to watch over her, and as she pointed out she was not normally in the kitchen. He made a note of checking on Mae and the kitchen though while visiting the tavern, just to be sure.
The purple-skinned Tiefling chuckles softly at Mei and then Cadoras. He felt relieved the petite oracle would spend her time with the easy-going and entertaining elf and not the obnoxious actor, not that it really was any of his business but somehow it felt important to him. He realized it was kind of cute too, offering to share a dessert, nothing that would have crossed his own unimaginative mind. He made note of finding some literature on the subject of being a more charming partner, if there was such literature to be found at Strixhaven. At least he had picked up a thing or two from the novels in the study room. The tiefling blushes slightly at the thought, then starting to eat and drink while enjoying the company of his friends.
Mae half watches the banter between Mei and Cadoras, but only with polite attention, keeping to herself until the food and drink arrived. She shifted in her chair now and then, every now and then glancing around at the patrons of the tavern, watching what else might be going on and it took a minute for her to register they were talking about her. "Huh? What? Oh, oh yes, I'll be careful. I-I'm sure the food is fine back there, but I guess I can go check for you if you want." She spoke rather distractedly.
Aurora replies to Mae. "I don't think you have to check now. It sounds like Mei already looked. Just be safe in the future." Her voice sounds supportive, and after making the comment, she doesn't press any more.
Cadoras smiles at Meias she mentions tasting her food. "Oh, what are you having? Perhaps I'll give it a try, depends on what it is, of course. I do have particular tastes you know!" A few minutes later the waitress brings his piece of cake, generously covered with chocolate sauce and piled high with whipped cream. He looks at it almost protectively. He picks up a fork to take a bite, cutting through cake and frosting. As he lifts it from the plate he glances side-long at Mei. "Um..." His face scrunches up as though the effort is truly great to continue his words. "You... want a bite?" He kind of looks distressed, although it's hard not to get the sense the elf is going to start laughing about it at any moment.
With the waitress back at the table, she checks around to see if anyone would like to order anything else.
Seeing Cadoras' silliness, Aurora turns to Malvyn. "That certainly looks like a wonderful dessert, Mal. Was that what you had in mind for my reward tonight? Hmm?"
About the same time, there is a loud booming voice as someone enters into the tavern. "Amel! Nice to see you. Hope you're having a good night."Guardokrecognizes Zanther's voice immediately. The others though soon spot the fire genasi approaching their table. "Ah, there you are Guardok! Sorry, took me a bit to get here. I've not missed the whole evening have I?" As he arrives at the table, he has a big smile on his face for everyone.
"I got some bread and the roast fowl," Mei says, trying not to scrunch her nose. She hopes its not too obvious she ordered it for him--vegetarian as she is. "Does that... suit your taste?" If not, she could always see if one of the others would like it.
Regarding the cake, Mei beats him to the punch and sputters into laughter she muffles behind her hand. "Oooh, a taste has become a bite! Very generous," she teases. With a mischievous grin, she poises her spoon over the cake as though cutting a huge slice. Waiting to see his reaction, she giggles and, at the last moment, scoops only a bit of whipped cream.
She's about to try it when Zanther's booming voice rings out. Already on high alert for any noise from the kitchen, she jumps and involuntarily flicks the spoon, smearing whipped cream over her cheek and sending a plop nearly into Knap's bowl.
Guardok eats quietly as the jesting about desserts continues. At least the message was given and hopefully Mae will be ok.
He hears Zanther arrive before he sees the Fire Genasi, getting up on his chair to wave his fellow gymnast over.
"Hey Zanther. Not at all, grab a seat", he says as he sits back down. "Conys didn't fancy it then? Oh, do you know everyone?", he asks, pretty sure that they all know each other, but thinking it best to check and be sure.
As he enjoys ripping into his bloody steak, the purple-skinned Tiefling listens to Mei and Cadoras with an amused smile. "Oh...the reward..." Malvyn says, seeeming a bit startled as he looks at Aurora beside him. "...well would you want it to be a wonderful dessert then of course it was." He says with a playful smile, about to say something more as he hears the booming voice of Zanther, making him look up to spot the massive fire genasi. As Guardok greets his fellow gymnast, Malvyn recalls Conys as the earth genasi's training partner at the gymnastics club. "Good to see you again Zanther."He says with a bright smile and a raised glass, then curiously looking around to see how everyone reacted to having the quite popular fire genasi at their table.
knap fingers the splatter of runaway cream and has a taste before returning back to spooning braised beef. “Hey, Zanther,” Knap says shyly into his bowl.
By now, Mae had only barely touched her stew and drunk her herbal tea halfway. She pulled her bag back into her lap as Cadoras continued his banter with Mei, and she was not oblivious to the Mal and Aurora, though she stared at her food and drink. She did look up, momentarily surprised when the large fire genasi came over to meet them but didn't say anything, only slipping her hand back into her bag and taking one more long draught of her tea. Anyone watching her might notice that the usually tall, radiant woman was seeming to fade, eyes normally bright blue softening to a duller color, natural aura almost non-existent.
Aurora gives Malvyn a brief chuckle. "Mal, if a dessert is what you have in mind, then I'm sure I'll love it."
"Bread and roast fowl," Cadoras repeats. "I've never had those with cake, but I guess we'll see!" But first he passes his fork with the portion of cake on it Mei. "No, no, steal... I mean, take... err... try an actual bite." Then when he gets the chance, he stabs a piece of the fowl, scoops it up with some cake and pops it in his mouth. "Hmm... mmm..." he makes contemplative sounds. "I think this... is something I'll have to think about. Not bad."
Zanther grabs a seat at the table, greeting everyone there. "Nah, Conys had some other commitments I guess. She did say to send her apologies for not making it though." When the waitress makes it back over, he orders a roast fowl, a bit of bread, vegetables, and some fruit as well. "So, what's the occaison? Or just everyone wanted a night out at the old Bow's End?" he asks. "Probably a good idea with exams coming up. Always good to take time to relax when you can."
As the evening moves along a couple of different acts take the stage to perform some music. An instrumental group to begin, followed by a simple singer with a lute player and drums. It's all very pleasant background to everyone talking and eating.
"I might have thought of something else but that won't stop me from sharing a dessert with you."The purple-skinned Tiefling says with a playful smile and soon he orders in the dessert Mei and Cadoras are having. He wouldn't expect any of this as he arrived at Strixhaven, just one week to his first exam and he was casually enjoying himself in good company, even intoxicating himself, tomorrow he would definitely devote to studies but tonight he would relax and enjoy. While sharing the dessert with Aurora he would listen to the performances, quietly sharing appreciative comments with the raven-haired performer at his side, also glancing around at the others and hoping everyone is enjoying themselves.
