Mei grins at Cadoras and shakes her head with a giggle, "N-No, you can't mess it up! It's just putting them out on the windowsill so they're in the moonlight overnight! Though, moon bathing is a little different! There's more of a ritual to it and involves--sort of like, um... ha, er, s-skinny dipping in the moonlight. B-But I'm not doing that t-tonight!" 

The stammering wizard is almost grateful when there's a sudden hullabaloo, but much less so when she hears the shouting for help from the kitchen. She looks at the others with a fierce determination and says to those not her floormates--"Please get everyone out!"--then disappears in a puff of lavender mist.

Guardok is mostly done with his goodbyes when the Chef appears asking for help. He looks completely confused as he begins to make his way towards the kitchen as fast as he can.

"How can spicy steam be trying to kill anyone?", he wonders out loud as he moves.

Mae was still trying to process everyone talking to her and such, and stick by Larine to tell her bringing flowers wasn't necessary at all when the cries from the kitchen came and she whispered, "Oh no...not again..." Leaning closer to Larine she seemed extremely hesitant to go over and see what was going on at first, but considering she also worked there she finally decided perhaps she better check it out, at the very least so Javanesh didn't take notice and hold it against her.

"Wait here Larine, please. Stay safe. I'll be back as soon as I can." She kissed Larine's forehead and then hurried off toward the kitchen with the others.

Knap, paralysed with embarrassment that he forgot the flower he potted earlier for Mae, suddenly leaps in shock. On witnessing the little kiss he’s now wondering if giving her flowers would be considered inappropriate. He’ll make it up to her later, it can be gift for them both once he gets back to Dresar... no time to think he runs for the kitchen hopping on and over tables along the way.

Cadoras seems confused, first by Mei's words and then by the commotion from the kitchen.  He doesn't manage to get a reply in before Mei has already blinked away towards the kitchen.  "Hey! Mabye I could help?" he says weakly, clearly well behind the others.  Larine looks worried as Mae kisses her forehead and hurries off. "Oh! Be really careful! It all sounds really dangerous!" Aurora watches as Malvyn runs off as well, left standing beside Rubina.  Many of the others nearby seem to heed Mei's instruction and file outside and to get out of the tavern.  

Certainly Mei and Knap seem to be leading the way, but the other roomates are right behind as Javenish leads them towards the west entrance to the kitchen. Curtie meets them, excitedly saying, "I said 'make it spicy' but this is too much! Too much!"  For Mae, she's been around the Bow's End enough to know that Curtie is always telling the other cooks things like 'make it spicy', so it doesn't sound that odd from her.  

As you get to the entrance, Piero is there by the door. "Looks pretty bad inside," he says. The four student cooks are scattered about the room, lying unconscious on the floor.  Five steam mephits are flying about the cooking pots.  Seeing others enter the kitchen, they immediately move to attack.

Mae panicks a bit and shrinks back to the wall unsure of what to do with the creatures suddenly erupting in the kitchen.

Action: Dodge.

The purple-skinned tiefling's eyes flare with furious anger as he sees the student cooks lifeless on the kitchen floor, then turning his attention to the obvious culprits, the small steamy impish creatures flying around in the cooking area, snarling an infernal curse against them, one hand going to the dark tome in his shoulder bag while the other reaches out towards the closest mephit, blasting it with a purple beam of eldritch crackling force.

"Take cover!" He then calls out to the others before moving for full cover backi outside the kitchen.

Mei, fueled by a sense of culpability for the whole fiasco, runs right into Piero. She pushes back enough to look up at him in surprise before peering around him into the kitchen. "Spice demons?" she gapes as the mephits flit about, then gasps at the fallen cooks.

Mei scrambles forward to the closest student and leans down to whisper a soothing Sylvan word into their ear. Healing arcane wisteria blooms around their injuries as she presses a hand over their heart to feel for its beat. The small diviner then scowls up at one of the creatures and overwhelming flashes of the past, present, and future collide in her mind as she drives an excruciating spike of psychic energy into the mephit's.

ROUND 1

Mei makes it onto the scene first, rushing to a female halfling that lies unconscious. As she heals her, she suddenly awakens, screaming out with fear. "What are they? What is happening?" She struggles to regain her feet before seeing the steam mephits still flying about and she collapses back onto the floor, covering her head with her arms. "No! Make them go away!" Mei's spell clearly affects Steam Mephit 2, just as she had forseen. 

Malvyn sends a blast of eldritch force at Steam Mephit 1, closest to the west door where everyone had entered the kitchen.  It looks weakened but not defeated. He is able to move back out of the room. 

Mae stays put near the door, dodging any attacks. 

Steam Mephit 4 flies at Mei, slashing at her with its claws. (Attack: 21, Damage: 4 slashing + 4 fire) 

Just as the conflict begins, the group (except for Malvyn who is not in the room) sees horrid masses of skittering bugs suddenly pour out of bags and boxes of ingredients in the food prep areas. You notice someone opening up the door on the east side of the kitchen.  Rubina, Aurora, Cadoras, Lesviel, and Mina Lee enter in and look about. "Don't worry, we'll take care of the bugs," Aurora says.  Cadoras adds, "You take care of the spicy steam!" The group is using magic to try to contain the swarms.  (Mechanically, the others will deal with the bugs while we'll only worry about the steam mephits.)

ROUND 1

Steam Mephit 4 strikes Mei, wounding her. 

Piero casts Magic Missile sending three glowing darts at Steam Mephit 2. (Damage: 2, 5, 5 force) 

A quick map. I'll have to explain the tokens and will try and get set up to do this a bit better in the future!

The numbers are the Steam Mephits (1 -5). And the generic humanoids are the unconscious students.

As the halfling screams, Mei too screams in surprise--realizing her mistake too late. It would've been kinder to leave her unconscious! But when the mephit swoops down, Mei covers and reassures her, "It's okay--we'll make them go away." Her eyes scrunch shut against the pain of white-hot claws along her back. "I promise."

Blinking away tears, the oracle sits up just in time to see the masses of bugs, "Th-that's definitely a health code violation," but she wells up again at sight of Cadoras as the others burst through the doors. If she manages to make eye contact with him, she wipes at her eyes and nods with a smile, then turns her attention back to the steamy imps.

Guardok rushes into the kitchen, intrigued by what it is that could be causing such mayhem, a feeling that is only heightened by Piero's warning. Surveying the scene once he enters, he is a little taken aback, especially by the fact there are cooks lying on the floor.

His eyes narrow as he looks to the closest mephit, trying not to be distracted by the screams and magic flying around. He simply draws his rapier and looks at it.

"You give me no choice, but why?", he says in the aquan dialect of the primordial tongue, watching it to see any glimmer of hope that it might understand.

Realising Mei is in trouble, he decides these creatures are too dangerous to wait, and he steps forward thrusting the blade towards it.

"Hold on Mei", he calls across, offering some encouragement.

[I think it’s my turn: if not I’ll delete and repost when it is]Knap first begins to feel a queasiness inside of him, echoed voices of decaying plants and sickened creatures fills his mind. Knap attempts to channel the the pain through a spell picked up in class. 

action: Memphit 2 dissonant whispers. Wis DC13 or take  10 psychic damage and must use reaction to move as far away from Knap as speed allows. Half damage on save, no reaction.

knap remains still, feeling kinda sick in the stomach. You notices the veins in his neck appear to have become darker, more protruded.  

ROUND 1

Guardok's rapier strikes Steam Mephit 1.  It explodes in a cloud of steam.  (Guardok make a DEX Save DC 10 or take 7 fire damage, half on success) 

Mephit 2 seems to have heard Guardok. It hisses back, partly mimicking his question. "Why? Why? You have disturbed us!" It then flies at Guardok, trying to strike him with its claws. (Attack: 10, Damage: 1 slashing + 1 fire) 

Knap uses his Dissonant Whispers on Mephit 2. (WIS Save DC13: 18)

Steam Mephit 3 flies at Mae also using its claws to try to strike her. (Attack: 10, Damage: 4 slashing + 1 fire)

Steam Mephit 5 comes at Knap with a swipe of its claws. (Attack: 11, Damage: 3 slashing + 3 fire) 

ROUND 1

Steam Mephit 2 appears to hit Guardok even as Knap's spell seems to affect the creature. (Should have subtracted another d4 from save, but it didn't matter.)  Steam Mephit 2 then explodes in a burst of steam.  (Guardok make a 2nd DEX Save DC 10 or take 8 fire damage, half on success) 

Steam Mephit 3 appears to catch Mae with its claws, while Steam Mephit 5 misses Knap.
