As the others watch, Bryony vanishes silently into the eerie green glow ahead. Lacking darkvision, Bryony can see fine here, thanks to the green-glowing fungi. 

Bryony: Make an Intelligence (Nature) check.

Quinn takes a few more steps forward hoping to keep Bryony in sight. He raises the torch high trying to get a glimpse of the ceiling before focusing on the sneakily little halfling. 

Jurgen readies his crossbow <trigger someone attempts to attack or harm a party member>

Ruven sketches the strongbox, and makes a note to return if a key is, indeed, found. He follows along with the party, staying towards the middle.

Bryony sees nothing but alien, glowing fungi in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Advancing, Quinn looks up at the ceiling, which seems to be mostly fungus-free, except where they climb the stalagmites.

Nothing moves; all is silent. Jurgen scans for targets with his crossbow.

Boona moves up towards Bryony looking at the fungi in interest.....

Boona reaches out to touch one of the glowing puffballs, " Pretty."

That's when the purplish stalks lash out toward Boona...

Jurgen may use his Reaction to fire his crossbow

Then everyone should roll Initiative at Disadvantage.

You slowly realize that two hostile six-foot-tall purplish mushrooms lurk here, one in the middle of the central fungi patch and one in the northern patch. They use root-like feelers growing from their base to slowly creep forward. (They are hard to notice at first with all the other fungi around them.) They each have four stalks protruding from their central mass wriggling toward Boona.

Initiative:

Boona Initiative- 11

Boona shied back and grunted in annoyance swing her maul at the purple mushroom.

Attack: 26 Damage: 17

Quinn moves to pull Boona’s hand away from the fungi but he’s too late. He flinches as a crossbow bolt wizzes past him. 

Quinn drops his torch, grabs a dart fires it at fungi.

25 (Nat 20!) for 10 damage. vex grants advantage on my next attack on the same creature.

Jurgen, carefully watching for threats from the entrance, sinks a bolt deep into the first fungus, deflating it somewhat. They are easy to hit, as they are very slow and do not try to dodge

Boona flattens it, scattering bits of violet fungus across the cavern. One down.

Quinn directs his aim at the further fungus, damaging it noticably.

It creeps ten feet closer, raising 3 feelers to swipe at Bryony. (Alas, it is so slow, it had to Dash to move ten feet, but now it is within melee.)

Bryony initiative: 10

Bryony, Jurgen, and Ruven may act next.

Bryony has never seen a sentient, six-foot tall purple mushroom creature before. When she first decided to try and become an adventurer, this was the sort of strange and wondrous encounter she had imagined. The halfling lets out a whoop of excitement before stabbing the mushroom in front of her with her blades. 

Shortsword - Attack: 24 Damage: 6 piercing

Dagger - Attack: 23 Damage: 2 piercing

Sneak Attack (I believe Boona is still next to me) - 7 piercing

Bryony's blades make quick work of the second hostile fungus.

Combat is over!  Everyone may act.  What next?

" Tasty?", Boona mused over the mashed fungi.

Ruven's spell he was going to cast fizzles out, and he lowers his hand. He pulls out his notes instead, and starts studying the mushrooms. Interesting...perhaps related to the myconids?

Bryony shakes her head. "No, probably not tasty, Boona," says the halfling, pushing the mushroom nearest her with the toe of her shoe. "Could make you sick."

The halfling rogue moves a little farther into the cavern but not too far away from the party, maybe about fifteen feet or so and starts looking around for anything that stands out that's not a mushroom or a fungus, any signs that other people have been here before.
