in comparing the Scampus map to what we have currently uncovered, one of the locked doors to the east is labeled as having jewels? Recognize that scampus May not be completely reliable however his rendering has closely matched to this point.
do we have anyone with the ability to open locked doors?
The cave dead-ends here in a foul-smelling room. You can see the partially eaten remains of what appears to be 5 or 6 humanoids. Tatters of clothes remain on them. Some are pretty cleaned skeletons to what appears to be the most recently dead is a pile of rotting flesh. There is a pack of rats crawling over the bodies and backing away from your approach. The floor here is also the packed sand you have been seeing in the cave. The ceiling is about twelve feet high and irregular in contour.
Hoid searches the bodies in the room. The stench of death here is nearly over powering. The rats move away from Hoid and then run down the hall away from Erbert as well. They leave down the passage the half-orc and goblin fled down.
In his search, Hoid finds that the most recently dead body has a belt with a buckle of two dolphins circling each other still on. He also finds that one of the bodies that has been eaten on by the rats has short blond hair and is missing a little finger from before dying.
Do we collect evidence or send someone to bring the interested parties down here to see for themselves? Chime in with a vote or different idea, please.
I don't think they are going anywhere, and they didn't care about leaving evidence up until now. I wouldn't want to spilt the party while we're at partial strength. So either we all go, or grab the buckle and carry on (after a quick prayer and blessing from Tyr for the unfortunately slain townsfolk.
That changes the urgency of pushing on immediately.,
Any ideas about this Azzaroil or things we could do to protect ourselves from a wererat? I am fine staying or leaving to share info but if we are going to recover, it would be nice to see if we can gain even a small advantage for our return
I suppose my fear of tossing oil and burning up the prisoners is put to rest. Our tactics to avenge them are wide open
Hoid moves to the opposite side of the cave chamber and finds the hall branches in two directions. The floor is packed sand and the ceiling is rough with some stalactites.

Hoid has a crowbar and (I think) a hammer. Unless someone has a spell to unlock a door, I don’t believe we have the ability beyond brute force.
Considering how the rolls have been going I'm guessing we lose the fight with the door.
Perhaps Kragen can go to the nearest temple of Tyr and requisition a Holy Torch of Acetylene.
Hoid moves just past Erbert to see what lies beyond.

Regular rats?
Correct, not giant rats.
Hoid will move in to look for belt buckles.

While the debate rages on, Hoid move to the opposite side if the original cave to see what is there (moved on map).
Hoid moves to the opposite side of the cave chamber and finds the hall branches in two directions. The floor is packed sand and the ceiling is rough with some stalactites.
Hoid moves to the fork to look down each direction.
The passageway branches into two natural cave like spaces. You cannot make out details, but, see no activity in either one. (( Map updated ))
After saying a prayer and blessing those poor souls, Kragen moves to support Hoid as he scouts ahead.
/watching
(( My plan is to spend the rest of today in front of a football game. I will be checking in regularly. ))
Hoid moves into the room on the right to investigate the red rectangular object and see if the rooms connect.
And pick up the +5 vorpal great axe.
