a first creature is grappled by a second creature. the second creature is targeted with an immolation spell. if the first, grappled creature also affected by the immolation spell, 5e?
. In D&D 5e, spells only affect the specific targets chosen by the caster. Unless the grappled creature was explicitly chosen as a target, they take no damage.[1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Pyro-Gnome gets serious. He sics MFHound on the Dark Young. DEX SAVE = 9, failure. It bites the abomination for 24 damage. He follows this with an Immolation spell upon the Dark Young. DEX save = 11, failure. It now takes 28 Fire damage. But, it is clear the creature is resistant to fire damage, so 14.
Concentation saves = 19 and 27, success.
Chadwick to act. He can take an action, a move, or a bonus action. Pick one.
Chadwick is faced with a decision. A weighty decision. From his myriad options of movement, actions, bonus actions, free actions, undefined actions and reactions he can only select one. What a poverty amongst riches. A heresy. Tyr's damnation upon the vile circumstance that has led Chadwick to this point in his life. Unsure of how to proceed he is even more greatly piqued by the kaorti thrall menacing him. The kaorti behind it goading it onwards, towards its sure destruction by the holy hand of Tyr's chosen. It would be so easy to reduce the creature to a lump of quivering, alien flesh and gore. Just like.....
Chadwick brings his halberd to bear upon the kaorti thrall, to hit = 11, a miss. Followed by to hit = 21, the halberd finds its mark. The kaortic thrall takes 16 slashing plus 2 lightning damage. He hews at the kaorti behind it, to hit = 10 (nat 1). The kaorti is unimpressed.
And suddenly, choice is behind him. He can now act, and act, and act, and act, and act, and react just as Tyr desires.
Xymox Targets the area in front of him and casts Thunderwave to effect both the Kaorti and the Kaorti thrall. (Cast at 3rd level).
You unleash a wave of thunderous energy. Each creature in a 15-foot Cube originating from you makes a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 2d8 Thunder damage and is pushed 10 feet away from you. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage only.
In addition, unsecured objects that are entirely within the Cube are pushed 10 feet away from you, and a thunderous boom is audible within 300 feet.
Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. The damage increases by 1d8 for each spell slot level above 1.
As a bonus action, he will use Bardic inspiration on Kragen. /OOC I believe that both Kragen and Chadwick should now have BA.)
Xymox does his wall-climbing routine to position himself beside the kaorti. He then casts Thunderwave affecting the kaorti and the thrall. A tremendous BOOM! reverberates throughout the caverns and passages. You see the walls of the cavern are damaged by the shockwave of the spell and begin to leak resin through the cracks created. Overhead, the pipes and tubes are also affected. Cracks and leaking resin are seen around Xymox now.
Kaorti CON save = 19, success. it takes 10 Thunder damage. The Thrall CON save = 10, failure. It takes 21 Thunder damage and is thrown 10' away from Xymox, to the other side of Chadwick.
The Dark Young pulls Trolkarl to one of the gaping mouths, dripping with greenish spittle that hisses when it hits the floor. It bites him and begins to drain him. Trolkarl CON save = 13, failure. He takes 13 Necrotic damage and is Incapacitated.
It then makes a Sickening Tentacle attack on Kragen, to hit = 18, missing. Following up on this, it uses Sickening Radiance centered in the room. Anyone moving into the green circle, or starting their turn there must make a CON saving throw.
Immolation DEX save = 15, failure. The Dark Young continues to burn, taking 5 Fire damage. Concentration save = 15, success.
Starker performs the evoket hokey pokey ritual yet again, getting a bead on the Dark Young and saying: “Though I love fire, it seems that today is the day I use lightnjbg instead!”
Lightning bolt, l3, along line indicated, sculpting out Member of the Company and their pets.
22 lightning damage, halved on a Dex DC 17 saving throw.

/OOC: Oops. I meant to use BA on Trolkarl....I'll get you next round, Mat!
Starker, recalling in his INT 20 way the lightning failed against at least some of these, decides not to use LB but rather his version of Freebird, the fans always want it …
FIREBALL. L3 CENTERED AS SHOWN, sculpting out The Company in the AoE and the doggo
Starker’s Fireball roars into existence in the chamber. Both Kaorti fail their DEX saves = 14 and 12. The thrall succeeds = 20. One Kaorti falls. The second is barely alive as is the thrall.
The Dark Young makes a DEX save = 17, failure. It takes 12 Fire damage.
Concentration save = 13, success.
The thrall attacks Chadwick, to hit = 16 and 12, both miss.
Kragen’s turn starts with a CON save = 21, success. No effect from the Sickening Radiance spell.
Kragen pulls a prayer scroll from his belt, and completes a prayer to Tyr "Tyr, i call on the spirit of Tyr to protect this vessel of divine Justice and those in The Company!"
MA Spirit Guardians L3
Returns the small scroll and readies for combate by advancing 5 ft
Protective spirits flit around you in a 15-foot Emanation for the duration. If you are good or neutral, their spectral form appears angelic or fey (your choice). If you are evil, they appear fiendish.
When you cast this spell, you can designate creatures to be unaffected by it. Any other creature’s Speed is halved in the Emanation, and whenever the Emanation enters a creature’s space and whenever a creature enters the Emanation or ends its turn there, the creature must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 3d8 Radiant damage (if you are good or neutral) or 3d8 Necrotic damage (if you are evil). On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage. A creature makes this save only once per turn.
Note: all 3 combatants are within 15 feet of Kragen
Erbert moves just a little closer to see the Dark Young, it continues to be enveloped in magical flames. "Kick it up a notch!" the pint-sized Emeril says to himself, sending an additional bolt of fire at the thing. "Stand back and watch me cook." He also urges his hound to continue to bite the thing.
Action : Fire bolt to the Dark Young : 20 to hit, for an additional 11 points of fire damage.
Immolation still in effect on the Dark Young, round 2/10 : 41 points of fire damage, DC 18 Dex save to cut this in half.
Erbert's Faithful Hound takes a chomp out of the Dark Young for 21 points of Force damage, DC 18 Dex save to avoid.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Erbert starts his incendiary turn with a CON save = 19, success. No effect from Sickening Radiance.
The Dark Young makes DEX save = 21, success. Immolation causes 10 points of Fire damage and continues to burn.
The Dark Young makes a DEX save = 12, failure. MFHound bites the Dark Young for 21 points of Force damage.
Elbert's strikes the Dark Young for 5 points of Fire damage with his Fire Bolt.
The Dark Young succumbs to the vile depredations of The Company and collapses. Its body begins to implode, drawing itself inwards to a finite point before disappearing with a flash and ear-popping drop in pressure. The Sickening Radiance sphere of foul, green light dissipates with the disappearance of the Dark Young.
Trolkarl recovers with the disappearance of the Dark Young.
The vibrations that could be heard earlier remain, thrumming throughout the cavern system. You can see the fluid is pumping through the pipes and tubes in the ceiling and into the basin in the center of the room from the pipes in the floor. The walls of this room have organic components as well. You see eyes pop open, sphincters open to expel puffs of fumes then close again and fibrous bands constricting like muscles. The central basin is active. The things swimming within are highly agitated now, swimming about vigorously.
Kaorti1 continues to watch Starker from cover in the passage out of the room with the damaged tank of fluid.
Chadwick casts Cure Wounds using a L3 slot, healing himself 25 HP.
Trolkarl will use 4 die for healing light for 14 HP healed.
You gain the ability to channel celestial energy to heal wounds. You have a pool of d6s to fuel this healing. The number of dice in the pool equals 1 plus your Warlock level.
As a Bonus Action, you can heal yourself or one creature you can see within 60 feet of yourself, expending dice from the pool. The maximum number of dice you can expend at once equals your Charisma modifier (minimum of one die). Roll the dice you expend, and restore a number of Hit Points equal to the roll’s total. Your pool regains all expended dice when you finish a Long Rest.
“Bam chicka bam bam…”. Erbert makes a finger like arcane cannon with his finger and pretends to blow the smoke away from it. “Whoa, what’s that fart gas this metal monstrosity is belching out? Maybe we gave it a little agita! Heh.” He turns and looks back for Starker, wanting to show off his pyro abilities, saying “Hey Starker, come check out this big pile of ash I made. Hah!”
