"Thank you!" The tabaxi says almost reflexively as the older tiefling leads them into the room and gives them free reign. She moves over to the armor and begins inspecting to see if any of the armor was made for her smaller stature. This might be a way to narrow down some of the possibilities. She also tries to take note if any of the armor would seem to fit any of the others in the room with her.
As they are led into the new room that contains their equipment, the genasi pauses and looks over the assembled gear with a critical eye. He really wasn't looking forward to the guessing game of who's stuff is who's, but that's what it looked liked they were going to have to do. He stands there rubbing his chin contemplatively as he tries to figure out what is his. Maybe his stuff had some kind of watery theme to it? I certainly had enough water to merit the theme, he notes as several beads of water drip off of his body. I should be able to figure what's mine if it fits me, he muses. Maybe I should start wi-
He's jolted out of his thoughts as the large, bestial woman haphazardly shoves the greataxe at him. He fumbles as he tries to catch it, almost dropping the heavy blade as he works through his surprise. Finally managing to secure a firm grip upon the weapon, he shoots the woman an annoyed glare. Scowling and shaking his head, he turns his focus back to the axe. Dang, this thing definitely would cause some damage in the right person's hands, he thinks. He hefts the blade, seeing if it felt familiar in his grasp.
((He'll go around and see if anything feels "right" and comfortable amongst the gear pile))
The Dragonborn follows in behind the group unsure which weapon to pick up. He watches the others try weapons out. "Do any of you feel like these weapons belong to you? Hmmm these pouches have various things inside, possibly for...I feel like I have seen things like this in use before but I can't place where or why...."
(player names for now, once you know character names in character, I will switch to those)
Matt: the greataxe is heavy. Too heavy for you to use.
Obsidian: None of the armour seems to for your smaller stature that you can see. And it's hard to judge for the others as they are all similar ish size. They could probably all fit in any.
Dimir: At an initial glance, there is no obvious water theme, but before you can look closer, the greataxe is in your hands. It isn't too heavy for you, however you don't sense any familiarity with it. You don't feel like there is enough space in here to swing it around to test. Going around, a lot of the weapons feel comfortable in your grip, or at least more comfortable than the greataxe. You don't find any of the simple weapons that feels wrong.
Antlan: while watching the others grab weapons, you find yourself mentally thinking of how you would hold them differently, especially when it came to the larger weapons. You feel like you probably could wield anything here.

Seeing nothing that would fit her smaller frame, she sighs. Relief maybe? She isn't sure. Seeing a lot of the other gathered around the weapons, the tabaxi lightly paws over to the pouches. As she moves over she looks to others, "Maybe check out the armor, there may be something the fits you. Could be quicker than sorting through all of the weapons? At least initially." She looks the component pouches over, seeing if anything speaks to her. The vibe, the organization, the items in the pouch. She tries to reach out with her other senses to see if anything sparks or feels familiar.

Would my character know anything about component pouches and what they are used for?
The genasi sets the last weapon down, stepping back slightly. He had originally wanted to scrounge around in the other piles, but when the bugbear handed him the greataxe, the weapons piqued his interest. I think I can use just about any of these, he thinks. Not really helpful when it comes to narrowing which whichever ones are mine.
His gaze drifts over to the armor the feline woman mentioned. She was right; those probably would be easier to try out. He eyes all of them critically, trying to spot one that matched his frame. Upon settling on one of the suits of armor that looked like it would fit best, he makes his way over to it, each step leaving a wet spot on the floor. He notices this with a great deal of annoyance. He almost felt like he was sweating profusely with how much water he secreted. Hopefully, I'll figure out how to keep myself dry, or at least not as damp.

"Definitely to heavy for me. Shorting through the armour might work"
she says passing along the grear axe. Taking the suggestion of one of the others, she begins to short throw the armour, trying to find one that looks like it mighy belong to her, some fur stuck in the armour, maybe one that tailored just right.
Obsidian: you do recognise that the pouches add used for spells. None of them seem explicitly familiar, but they aren't unfamiliar either. You aren't sure if that's from personal use or from watching them be used.
Dimir: You realise that unfortunately from what the tiefling said, any armour would have dried with how long you were asleep so you can't base it of that, so you use frame instead. None of them look explicitly tailored to you, they all seem standard sized so you feel as if any one of them could fit if you wanted.
Matt: you see no fur in the armours, but also, as a bugbear you have long arms. Something the armour is lacking
If there is no difference between the component pouches, the tabaxi will take one. At least I know something about them. Could be good to have on hand if I do know how to do spells.
Before trying anything further with the components though she will begin going down the line of weapons starting with the smallest items, trying to see if anything seems familiar or comfortable. Process of elimination for myself. Then lets see if I can help the others or they can help me.
She weighs them in her hand and does her best to see if she can handle them in fight. She does her best to relax and let her body take over to see if that might help. She is trying to rely on any muscle memory that might exist.
The majority of weapons feel wrong. Being small, and not very strong, the larger weapons are awkward and clumsy, and even a lot of the simpler weapons just feel awkward in your hand. Daggers fit quite nicely in your palm, and you have a decent grip on a quarterstaff. Loading a light crossbow also didn't take as much effort as you believed.
At this point, the tiefling comes back. "I found the contracts. Other than name, signature and date, there is no information that you might use. I probably should add a next of kin on here going forwards but I never thought about it. No one really reads the contracts anyway, just the first bit about the reward and potential good outcome, and then they skip to the end to sign. I know the reward was stated as 200gp each, but I feel bad about your memory so I have given you some more" and he hands you each a pouch with 300gp, and places the contracts and a blank paper with quill on a table, pushing some of the equipment out the way. "I thought you might want to try writing to see which handwriting matches yours to get the right names. I am willing to assume that Miss Tabaxi here is Clever Claw, however I would not presume for the others."
You can all see the 4 names, Clever Claw, Lanu, Tiberius “Eddy” Goffenheim the III and Rhogar and are easily able to match the names up to your character if you try writing.
Rhogar tries to remember anything "Rhogar, my name is Rhogar...." He looks back at the weapons and picks up the warhammer first. He begins to masterfully swing it around "Well it seems, Rhogar, can use this. If I can swing this with relative ease, I assume I can do the same for all of these weapons....That does not help with which of these armors belong to me....or why I know how to use these.....Although my aches and pain and scars could help point to something from my past"
The tabaxi looks over the contract and grabs a pen to scribble the name Clever Claw. Seeing a perfect match, she gives a little sigh and says under her breath, "Clever Claw, that is a little on the nose. Maybe I could go by ... Cici."Cici, I like that better. She folds up her contract and tucks it into shirt.
She moves back to the weapons a little disappointed with the results thus far. Unsure, but feeling it is necessary to have something she pockets a dagger and reluctantly grabs the quarterstaff. Seeing that nothing really calls to her, she finds her eyes drifting down to the component pouch. Maybe ...
-
Does the space look like a safe area to try and practice some magic?
Cici steps off to the side and softly places her paw into the component pouch. I hope this works. I would feel really dumb if it doesn't.
She decides to methodically go through some potentially mild effects that don't cause damage. She starts with seeing if she can summon a breeze, or maybe a pleasing scent. Then she tries to see if she can clean her clothes. Afterwards she makes attempts at other elemental summonings. Fire. Water. Earth. Maybe a flower. Maybe an extra helping hand. She does her best to try and see if anything sparks a sense of familiarity.
Taking a liking to the short swords Lanu takes 2 of them and grabs 2 daggers as well. She also takes a light crossbow.
"I think I am better suited to fast light weapons then the heavier stuff. Probably better suited to the studded leather as well, if there are no objections."
She also picks through the other stuff laying around and puts together an component pouch of her own and an explorers pack.
All in all, 2 dagger, 2 short swords, 1 light crossbow, studded leather, component pouch and explorers pack (if there are no objections)
The genasi eagerly snatches the contract out of the teifling's hands, his eyes excitedly moving down the page. He pauses when he comes to his name, his excitement withering in an instant. He reads it over and over again in his mind, his disappointment growing each time. Tiberius “Eddy” Goffenheim the III... Who on earth would name their kid that?! he thinks heatedly. If he ever figured out who his parents were, he was going to have a conversation with them about their naming strategies.
Looking slightly wilted, Tiberius turns his attention to the more mundane gear in the room. At this point, he was half-tempted to let everyone else take what they wanted and then just take what was left over. It would certainly save a lot of effort on his part. He again begins rummaging around the gear, seeing if anything looked familiar and like something he would use.
Rhogar looks around the room trying to commit the others names to memory "Lanu, Clever Claw, Tiberius “Eddy” Goffenheim the III.....Do you think we knew each other prior to this? Perhaps we take everything, go sit somewhere and talk...maybe we can figure out things about each other?"
"That sounds like a good plan, we can go somewhere to test out the equipment see what works best for all of us and get to know each other. Not that there is much to get to know......"
Cici steps off to the side and softly places her paw into the component pouch. I hope this works. I would feel really dumb if it doesn't.

You decide you want to create a breeze, and your paw comes out of the pouch empty. But you find your hand do a quick movement and a strange word come from your mouth as there is a puff of wind that hits wall, slightly shaking some of the weapons around. Excited by the discovery you try a scent, and a minor change to the hand movement with the same word produces the smell of wet mushrooms. Not quite what you aimed for, but progress. You change the gesture very slightly again, and your clothes are clean. A different word and hand movement and a small bit of fire hits the wall. You try and summon water and your thought runs away with you a little. You start thinking of rain, and then thunderstorms, and then suddenly lightning arcs across your claws, starts to arc towards the metal armours, before fading harmlessly just in front of your paw.
He again begins rummaging around the gear, seeing if anything looked familiar and like something he would use.
Just the feeling that the simple weapons feel like you might have had training in them, but the other weapons feel a bit more awkward. The armour you would need to try on to have a better understanding, the size alone doesn't help you. The component pouch seems to feel a bit familiar.

Rhogar, the warhammer feels comfortable in your hands.
Lanu, the shortswords feel comfortable and balanced well. You don't feel like you typically would use both together, but it doesn't feel wrong.
