While the plan is discussed in the OOC chat, I am posting here purely so the thread doesn't get lost. And a reminder to everyone apart from kev that you can also add some ideas to the plan
You finish your plan and use the last hour and a bit exploring the parts of the carnival you haven't yet visited, starting with the calliope. A merry tune spills forth from an instrument on the back of a brightly painted wagon. A monkey wearing a cloak covered with buttons turns a handle at the wagon’s rear, sending music into the air from rows of golden whistles. As you watch, a goblin dressed as a ladybug toddles up to you, rattling a tin cup. Every now and then, the monkey says
"Spare a button if you please, I’ll sew it next to all of these. I offer nothing in its place, Besides a smile upon my face."
and you can all see that the tin has indeed got buttons in it.
Deciding to stay near the big top, you check out the gondola swan. Enormous swans glide through the water, pulling ornate wooden gondolas draped in flowers. The swans disappear into banks of silver mist as they wend their way down the river. A jetty extends ahead, at the end of which a waiting swan preens its feathers. You have leftover ticket punches so assuming you take a ride, the swan bows her head, and introduces herself as Feathereen, and explaining that she can take you along the river that encircles the carnival. As you go, she attempts to engage in conversation, starting a topic of “How do I know you exist?” and “In worlds so full of magic, is time an illusion?”
After the ride, you check out the carrousel. A female centaur is operating it, though she is quick to correct anyone who calls her a centaur, saying "I am just a human who made a bad deal".
Unless anyone has anything to add with any of those three locations, you will proceed to the big top. If you have nothing, feel free to say that there is nothing (or even just a sentence of RP per location) and if everyone has done that, I can proceed sooner.
"Oh a monkey and music! How fun!"Moneo says, looking at the tin cup. Assuming they are being offered to him, he'll reach in with his eyes closed and pick one out at random to hand to the Monkey and see how he sews it on. ((if the button needs a punch or anything Moneo will agree))
Looking at the swan boat, Moneo says, laughing, "Oh I don't have enough pipe weed for this conversation. But let's see... If you think I'm here, isn't that really all that matters? Like, I'm here in your mind, so maybe I exist, at least there."
Finally, blinking at the hu-tar, "A bad deal? With who? For what?"
The tin is being offered as a method to collect buttons (a bit like a busker collecting change). If you are willing to part with one of your buttons you may. If you think your clothing has any that can be spared that is.
Swan: "Do I exist in your mind or do you exist in mine?"
Hu-tar: "A hag promised to reunite me with my missing steed after it went missing in battle. She technically did as she said, but I regret ever asking"
Considering that Moneo never closes his vest, he has no need for the buttons on it so happily shares one to someone who does.
"Maybe a bit of both."Moneo ponders, remembering some interesting discussions he'd had with his friends sitting around under some trees. "I see you here, so you're in mine, yet you seem to see me, so I exist in yours. I guess that's all we need to know we're here eh? Or at least as 'here' as matters."
Sighing Moneo says, "Hags are bad business friend. But at least you can still run and live and have 10 fing...er... 2 front and 2 rear hooves! You got off about as well as is possible. Hopefully what you gave wasn't too much."
((quick check: 17 (nature? +1) for what Moneo might know about Hags. I've been playing quite a bit of BG3, which has a hag, and I think some knowledge might be common, but not sure how much.))
Barreknar searches his clothes for a button, sadly he doesn't find any not in use. "Uhhh...Sorry mate I got none to spare."
"Well possibly we only exist with our own head as we are the only ones who know ones self, and each of us projects a existence of one another within our minds. So your existence to me is a different existence to that of your existence in my friends mind.... why are you looking at me like that?"
"I'd hate to see how your steed is taking the... mix up."
As the time reaches close to the 8th hour, you all finish your preparations. Kettlestream disguises as Candlefoot, who goes and hides. Most of you go take a seat to watch the ceremony, catching the end of a tiny firefly circus managed by an ogre dressed like a djinni. Barreknar possibly sneaking backstage with Burly's help for a backup plan of brute force. Dirlagraun escorts Mister Witch to the ceremony from his wagon, while "Candlefoot" collects the crown.
Mr Light takes centre stage as the 8th hour starts."Welcome all. Thank you so much for coming tonight. We hope you had fun and return again. I know you are all eager to find out who will be tonight's Witchlight Monarch so without further ado," and he holds his vane up, and a golden spectral thread appears from the end and winds out across the audience. It curls around and then settles on Moneo. "You Mr Satyr, please come down to the stage" There is a big round of applause, and you hear a few people talking about how they recognise you from the performance you put on earlier. Mr Witch pulls out a crown of butterflies from the box that "Candlefoot" is holding and comes and places it on your head, as Mr Light knights you with the vane. Happy clowns come around with glitter, throwing it liberally over you. Moneo gives a little speech (I won't make it up for you, but I will assume it includes a subtle bardic inspiration to Kettlestream) They both escort you around the stage, while Palasha sings a lovely song. As she sings, she causes the water to rise up around her in columns, coming out of the large glass bowl she is sat in. Some of the water "accidentally" ends up splashing into a puddle near where Dirlagraun is stood.
As the song finishes, Burly sets off fireworks, while Mr Light leads Moneo on a parade around the carnival, the rest of the audience following behind. Dirlagraun goes to start escorting Mr Witch back, as she "slips" on the puddle, knocking him over. "Candlefoot" catches him, preventing him from falling over, and then mimes cleaning up the water much to the laughter of the few guests who have yet to leave. Once the parade is almost over, the crown teleports back to the box, at which point Candlefoot and Kettlestream quickly switch back so that the real Candlefoot takes the crown back to the wagon. Around this time, Mr Witch realises his watch is missing, and sends Candlefoot to get some witchlight hands to look for it along his route and in the big top. Currently no foul play is suspected. Kettlestream meets up with you at a predetermined location (teapot unless anyone else had a preference) and hands over the watch.
Though he'd been told he'd likely be chosen, that doesn't make him any less excited to have his name called and the crown placed upon his head. Moneo does seem to enjoy being the center of attention just a bit too much, but tries not to let it go too much to his head. Happy his speech goes well, and calling out to inspire his friend, he's again excited when he meets up with them again later, though a bit disappointed that he didn't get to keep the crown.
Looking at the watch Moneo then says, "Well... I think the point was to use this as leverage for them to tell us more about the Feywild." Looking at their assorted band of would-be thieves, he adds, "So, do you all think it'd be best if we say we 'found' it? Or just straight use it as ransom?"
Charm of the Monarch. You can sprout a pair of beautiful butterfly wings. As long as you have the wings, you gain a flying speed equal to your walking speed, and you gain a +5 bonus on all Charisma-based ability checks. These effects last for 1 hour. After you use this charm three times, it vanishes from you.
Moneo sighs as everyone just stares blankly at the watch in his hands. Handing it to Candlefoot he says, "Well, looks like this is a job for the Monarch."He then downs the potion of Advantage that Revelry had given them and heads back towards the staff area trying to find the Mister's, who at this point are likely aware that they're missing their heirloom, hoping that his status as Monarch will allow him access to them, but if not he'll explain that he has information to the bugbear in order to get closer.
Assuming he's able to meet the Mister's he says, looking at each in turn, "Mister. Mister. First, I really am grateful for the honor you bestowed upon me. And, I guess that you're having a bit of a crisis now looking for something." Assuming his words are met with surprise the the knows anything about the situation he continues, "There is something going on in the Feywild, and your, fantastically run I might add, carnival is the only lead we have. A couple friends of ours have been unable to contact their patron and have asked us to look into it. I'm sorry to doubt you, but we believe that you know more than you're letting on, and so have... taken... your Watch as a bit of leverage. We mean no harm, really, but we need to get to the Feywild. We'll return your watch in exchange for your help."Moneo then takes a deep breath, and lets everything he's said sink in. ((persuasion - with adv from potion 25))
The owners look at each other, almost communicating with just their eyebrows, before nodding. Mr Witch speaks "If you speak the truth, then we have no choice. If you return the watch to us, we will show you the way to where you wish to go. You have our word"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Assuming he trusts the Misters ((insight 21)), Moneo nods and after telling them to wait, heads back to the group to bring them all to the discussion. Holding the watch in his hands he says, "Sorry for having to give you stress. We just need to know what's going on. Please tell us everything you can."
You have no reason to not trust them. For a second, when talking about showing you the way to the feywild you think you possibly saw the flicker of relief? But it passed as quickly as it appeared
"Uhhhh, we are all worried about what's going on and the lack of communication from you know who. Even your faithful loyal amazing crew can tell there is something amiss and feel you both are holding back on what you tell them. We mean you no harm and wish not to resort to drastic measures, but we are concerned and feel the need is great."
Still holding the watch in hand, but ready to give it back, Moneo asks again, "Please, tell us what you know. How can we get to the Feywild? Have you heard anything about the missing Patron?"
Mr Light answers in part "The mirrors in the Hall of Illusions act as portals to Prismeer. But they need a phrase to activate. We can say it for you after we receive the watch. If you don't trust us, we can do the exchange in the Hall of Illusions itself." and they start walking that way, gesturing you to follow. Mr Witch then adds "We don't know what you will find on the other side. We have never stepped foot in Prismeer ourselves"
As the party proceeds on their guide's behest, a strange woman shadows them just beyond their peripherals, unheard and unnoticed. She has listened intently and knows their destination is belike her own. Quietly, ever so quietly, she stalks their progress through the festival grounds, her mind focused entirely on the task at hand. She grits her teeth in anticipation -- her spell will end soon. Hurry, you fools.
Yeeeesss. Quietly, softly, ever so stealthily, she follows...
(And to clarify, that is certainly ever so stealthily. None of you notice based off passive perception, and nothing is happening that you are aware of to have triggered anyone to think to look around with a perception check)
