Character Name: Fren Character Race: Warforged Class: Druid (Spore) Character Background: Far Traveler Detailed Backstory:
Fren’s earliest memory started with him awakening to the sight of an elderly gnome. The gnome was a druid that went by the name, Alstoc. Alstoc had found Fren deep within his forest and revived the warforged.
While Fren has no memories of his life before being found by Alstoc, he was content to serve the druid as his aid. He assisted Alstoc in both mundane and druidic tasks, slowly learning the ways of the druid over time.
Fren and Alstoc lived peacefully in their forest for many years. Until one day, Alstoc sensed a deep disturbance far up north. For the first time since their time together, Alstoc suggested that he and Fren leave the forest to investigate the disturbance.
The pair traveled many miles across the land until their investigations pointed them toward Adengaurd. However, while en route to Adengaurd, an unfortunate run-in with bandits left Alstoc mortally wounded. This wound led to the passing of Alstoc before the two could reach the city.
Upon reaching the city of Aldengaurd, Fren buries Alstoc and decides to take on the druid’s mission to investigate the north. Some asking around points the warforged towards Adengaurd Castle, where many adventurers are gathering to discuss the threat.
Roleplay Example:
At the edges of Adengaurd’s cemetery stands a lone warforged, shoveling piles of dirt onto a new grave. The metal components of his body are worn and rusted. Whereas, his wooden components seem to be teeming with life, sprouting branches and leaves just like the trees that grew throughout the cemetery.
Green moss and foliage peek out through the gaps of his leather armor. A staff and shield, also covered in moss, are strapped to his back. And atop the warforged’s head grows deep green vines, mimicking the appearance of dreads which were pulled back into a thick ponytail.
Upon shoveling the last pile of dirt, the warforged sticks the shovel into the ground so that it stands independently. He then stares at a crude tombstone that carries the name of a close friend.
“Alstoc. Even in death, you nourish the land. May you fill these trees with green and my heart with strength as I carry on your task.”
The warforged stands silent for several more moments before peering off into the direction of the Adengaurd Castle. “A gathering of adventurers to discuss the threats up north,” Fren murmurs to himself, repeating what a kindly, old woman had told him earlier. The warforged reaches for the moss-covered staff on his back, one of the few things he didn’t sell to afford the cemetery plot.
The ground clanks as the warforged’s metal feet carry him through the stone streets and then taps as his late friend’s staff hits the floor. Clink, clank, tap. Clink, clank, tap.
Optional addition to Adengaurd: A cemetery with trees where Alstoc has been buried. Optional advice for the DM: I have left Fren’s backstory fairly vague so that you can shape it to best fit the narrative/ setting of your campaign. You can decide what forest Fren and Alstoc are from, what druid organization Alstoc is a part of (if any), where the pair have traveled on their way to Adengaurd, if the bandits that killed Alstoc are part of a bigger conspiracy, and most importantly: who was Fren before he met Alstoc.

Character Class and Subclass: Monk (Way of the shadow)
Character Background: Criminal
Detailed Backstory
Born to poverty in the slums, Zane grew up where lying, cheating and stealing were the way of life. Weapons in the slums were instant thrashing by either corrupted guards or gangs who paid the guards that patrolled the area, so Zane learned to fight with his fists. When he was old enough, he left home and joined a crew to make coin. The crew focused on stealing with side business of smuggling.
The crew got hired by a big criminal boss for a major heist of a noble house. The second son of noble didn’t like what little he got so wanted all of it, willing to give the crew a cut for their work. During the heist, it was just a setup as they came across the dead first son and guards busting down the door the next second. A few hours later, Zane was pinned an assassin by his crew and throw into prison.
In prison, Zane fought his way to survive with his fists but found an old timer, Nightshade, slapped away his punches and kick like a child fighting an adult. After a while, Zane found himself sitting at the foot of the old master as he shown him many things from behaving not like a poor thug and most dangerously, In the Way of the Shadow. Master Nightshade let himself stay in prison as penance for his crimes.
Zane lacks the same feeling, using his honed ability to escape into the night. He ran far and hard until he could liberate from clothes and picked up some coins from people’s pockets.
Roleplay:
“One Beer and one meat pie for Mr Traveling Merchant,” Zane looked up from his ink and paper as the beverage and meal was slid onto the table by the barmaid. She seem to glance at the paper before Zane’s arm moves over it reaching for his meal, Zane pauses for a moment before opening his mouth, “Thank you for the meal,” He pulled the meat pie to his mouth for a bite before taking a drink from the mug.
“Working those numbers huh?” The barmaid tried to strike up a conversation. Zane looks down at the papers.
“Some clients are a little late and some are really just causing problems like this guy, Lord Coleway apparently. Ever heard of him?” Zane inquires as he looked up at the maid, who puts her hand on her chin for a second pondering her words.
“I heard Coleway has been spending, even hiring full time guards and paying those magic users to do things to his big old house since his family got killed. I heard some adventures saying it’ll more secure then Black Tower,” The barmaid relayed. Zane snickered before taking another bite.
“I doubt he’ll welcome a merchant asking about a debt then,” Zane stated as he leaned back, “I’m going to at loss,”
“Well, if you’re looking for money, I hear someone in Adenguard offering a lot of money for fix things that’s happening somewhere,” Zane perked up when he grasped the words.
“Thank you for your time. Here, for your time,” Zane slids some silver onto table, which disappeared as soon as he lifted his fingers off them. The barmaid gaves him a quick bow before heading back to her duties. As soon as she far, Zane dusted off the papers as the illusion on it broken to reveal the top of the paper reading The List with several names including Lord Coleway.
“Need more coins and better gear to get them…. Adenguard, here I come,”

Detailed Backstory Talic was born in Blustich, a small village in Cormyr, where the Wyvernflow joins Dragonmere. His father was human, his mother an Ondonti half-orc who had previously been a Zhentarim slave. Like many young Cormyrians Talic signed up for service as a member of the Purple Dragons. After serving his initial 2 years he re-enlisted for another 2 years but became disillusioned with the military life. After leaving he felt the call of Eldath, becoming a Freewalker, travelling throughout Faerûn in her service. Although dedicated to a life of peace, he found there are times when the only option is violence. He now finds himself in Adenguard, called to help in the struggle against whatever threatens the quiet places of the world.
Example Post of what your character would be doing right now. Write this like how you would in the campaign. Talic sits quietly in the ante-room of the great hall they had been summoned to. On his journey he had heard the rumours of a great plague, or a never ending winter, or the ride of the wild hunt; it varied from town to town and most were flights of fancy, or the nervousness of the unknown. Where he could he had tried to bring an element of calm and hope, but it was obvious that the rumours weren't completely baseless. Even in the quiet places of nature, the balance felt 'off'. As he sat and waited he looked around the room, taking in those who had also answered the call. They were a mixed bunch, seemingly drawn at random for whatever reason. Some were obviously used to conflict; although they sat quietly, they watched, their eyes never still. Others sat quietly and calmly; they would be the ones like himself who answered a higher call, and took solace from that call. Finally there were the restless ones; either bursting with excitement for something to happen, or nervous and twitchy as if expecting trouble. "Well," he thought to himself "this looks like it's going to be interesting." He closes his eyes and sends a prayer "Lady, give me the strength and the wisdom to walk this path."

NAME: Titus Marshall RACE: Variant Human (+1 STR, +1 CON, Skill Expert Feat w/ +1 DEX) (SUB)CLASS: Fighter Lv. 3 (Battle Master) ALIGNMENT: Lawful Good (follows his code) THEME: Former marine battle master retired to a life of adventuring BACKGROUND: Marine CHARACTER SHEET: https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/105031864 LOCATION: "The Drenched Dingo," a pub right on the docks, frequented by local sailors, fishers and the like. Titus made lots of memories there. BACKSTORY:
Titus never considered himself a hero. Although physically adept at a young age, he mainly lived a normal life until he left home to seek work on the deck of a marine ship. Eventually joining the corps, he quickly rose through the ranks and developed his fighting skills rapidly, even gaining a few accolades. He even rescued a crew of fellow marines, including his best mate Jon Tanner, carrying him back across miles of terrain to the safety of their ship. Eventually however, he realized that the life was losing its luster... and the corruption he kept encountering in the corps didn't help things. So, at the age of 28, he left the service, retiring to use his skills to find fortune as an adventurer. He now seeks to save enough to give him--and possibly a future family--a quiet life into old age.
EXAMPLE POST:
Titus sighed as he trudged through the door of his modest room. Closing it behind him, he carefully set down his equipment--marine habits die hard, after all--before removing his armor and finally settling onto his bed.
He was tired, but it wasn't night yet, and he had no intention of just falling asleep. Hands behind his head, he reviewed the day's events, a little frustrated at what had happened. It had been a routine job--or it was supposed to be, at least. Find the goblins ruining the local crops, deal with them, get paid. Nothing complicated. But of course, one of the farmers just insisted on his son coming along, a kid far too inexperienced to be helpful, and far too stubborn to listen well enough to avoid trouble. So, naturally, he got injured, the party he'd gone out with had to retreat, the mother screamed when she saw her "wounded baby," arguments ensued... it was just a lot of drama that he simply didn't feel like dealing with. That was one job he definitely didn't look back at once he decided to just cut his losses and walk away from the mess.
Soooo..... now what? He still had enough coinage to cover the room for a bit, and meals as well. And it wasn't as if there was any dearth of jobs for adventurers in Adenguard. Sighing again, the former marine decided to handle tomorrow's troubles in the morning, then rolled out of bed, standing and gathering his sword. For now, a pint at The Drenched Dingo sounded like just what he needed.
We have a lot focused more on support, 2 Clerics and 2 Paladins are a little much in that area. To increase your chances, maybe don't be a Cleric, Paladin, Druid, or Warlock. And a barbarian would be nice.
Character Class and Subclass: Artificer / Battle Smith
Character Background :
Aria is 2.3 feet tall, thin, and light, even by gnome standards. However, if someone touches her body, they will find slim yet well-built muscles underneath her skin. She has dirty, messy blonde hair resembling a lion's mane and a pair of bright grass-green eyes. She rarely wears makeup and prefers coveralls, armour, and a utility belt strapped with various tools.
Detailed Backstory:
Aria used to be a timid hunter girl living in the silent woods with her clan. One day, she was saved by a dwarf Battle Smith from wandering orc raiders who intended to make her their dinner. Aria was fascinated by the skills and spells of the dwarf warrior, especially by her mighty metal steed, an iron unicorn named Baron. The Battle Smith stayed with Aria's family during the winter, but she was old, and the cold and sickness eventually took her life. However, before departing to the great forge of the dwarven gods, the warrior woman left all her books and knowledge to the young gnome.
Aria studied the books diligently, completing small quests to gather gold and gears to reboot the iron unicorn, which had stopped moving since its master passed away. She worked tirelessly. And one night, as she slept on the unicorn's back, Aria felt the arcane motor of the beast start to beat again. She knew she and her unicorn were ready. It was time to take a ride and help those in need.
Example Post of what your character would be doing right now. Write this like how you would in the campaign.:
Inside the stable of Adenguard Castle, a small gnome checks her repeating crossbow, assuming it's flawless, and places the weapon among other gears arranged in a customary manner on the floor. Despite the curious glances from stable boys, the girl, an artificer, opens the armour plate of her iron steed and begins inspecting its insides. It's the second time she's gone through all her belongings since arriving at Adenguard Castle, but Donna is considering a third inspection.
Back at home, her siblings and friends teased her as a busy bee, but Donna didn't care. Touching her tools brings her confidence and comfort, much like distant thunderclouds make her anxious and uneasy.
I've travelled away from home to the land of giants. And now I'm about to rush into a storm of unknown danger, Aria thinks. She made her dream come true, becoming a unicorn rider and protector of innocents. But how can she prevent her dream from turning into a nightmare?
Suddenly, Donna notices the arcane motor—the heart of the metal beast—emitting a warm and strong vibration, as if encouraging and comforting her. “Thank you, Baron. I'm fine.” she says, gently touching the unicorn's neck and smiling.

Name - Cunning Green-moss Race - Tiefling Class - Barbarian Path of the Storm Herald Background - Folk Hero Detailed Backstory Nobody knows who Cunning's parents were, least of all Cunning himself. He was found abandoned on the tundra to the north of the Spine of the World by a patrol from the Green Moss tribe. Initially they left the infant and moved on, but when they passed the same spot a few days later they were amazed to discover that he was still alive. They took this as a sign from the gods and took him back to their camp. Although not as strong as the other warriors in the tribe, his quick wits and speed earned him a place at their side. Thanks to his Tiefling ancestry he was also valued for his insight and charm, and in time became a regular member of the tribes dealings the with merchants of Silverymoon. When the Green Moss tribe seceeded from Many Arrows, Cunning struck out on his own rather than moving with the tribe. Now he finds himself drawn to Adenguard by a threat from the North.
Example Post of what your character would be doing right now. Write this like how you would in the campaign. Cunning strides into the gateway of the Castle, a strange red skinned barbaric individual wrapped in furs and leather, a well-cared-for and well-used maul slung across one shoulder. He looks around, spots a guard and heads towards him. As the guard looks at him with a mixture of fascination and unease, he smiles and lowers the maul to his side to appear less dangerous. Stopping at a reasonable distance from the guard he speaks "Greetings, I am Cunning Green-moss. I apologise if I have startled you, I seem to have the effect on people." As the guard's expression changes to one of confusion he continues, "I am here in relation to the current situation in the North. Could you possibly direct me to whoever is dealing with this matter?" The guard recovers slightly "Oh, right, er, you'll want to be going to that entrance over there" Cunning nods to the guard "Thank you" and strolls off in the direction of the entrance.

@DM, Could you confirm if firearms are allowed in your campaign? I'm considering giving my character a pistol and the Gunnar feat in the future.
Name - Cunning Green-moss
Race - Tiefling
Class - Barbarian Path of the Storm Herald
Background - Folk Hero
Detailed Backstory
Nobody knows who Cunning's parents were, least of all Cunning himself.
I apologise if I have startled you, I seem to have the effect on people."
As the guard's expression changes to one of confusion he continues, "I am here in relation to the current situation in the North. Could you possibly direct me to whoever is dealing with this matter?"
The guard recovers slightly "Oh, right, er, you'll want to be going to that entrance over there"
Cunning nods to the guard "Thank you" and strolls off in the direction of the entrance.
Optional advice. The background was originally written for Forgotten Realms, I'll edit it to fit this campaign as required once we know more (if I'm picked). Stats are point buy.
Nyli Bemblade - Gnome Arcane Trickster
Portia Thornleaf - Halfling Rogue
I'm closing recruitment sometime tomorrow, (Saturday, January 6th), where I will choose who gets in. I will except more applications until then.
The campaign itself will start on Monday, January 8th.
ps. a full-caster application would be nice.

Also, I mostly have my team lined up. I have 5 chosen, although new applicants could take their spots. Remember I want 6 people total, so one more good application could probably make it in.
