Maggwyn stares at Thuribula for a beat, "Wow you talk a lot. I think... I think I got the grasp? Well, first off, thank you for the offer, but I am not interested in joining the Order. I am happy for your company and we'll go with that, and your thoughts on how to join it are no issue for me, you can destroy whatever you want, but I do need a piece of whatever we find for my own task." She raises an eyebrow to Thuribula, "What do you consider questionable behavior? I am not here to force my ideals upon you and I do not want you to do the same to me. I hope we are good here."
She frowns at her last statement, "Of course I won't forget Rikard. Do you think he's the first I've come across? He definitely won't be the last."
For any that pay for another drink or meal they may do so. Thuribula gains a few looks, some seem relieved to see a Flamekeeper others? It was hard to say but Charlotte and Auron glady wave her way. Nathan however only glances at her before making his leave looking to Fazil at the very end to see if he reads the letter Nathan had give him.
As the party talks of deeper matters such as Delirium. One by one many leave the tavern, either for the ruins or those who live here heading to their daily lives. Even Eren Marlowe can be seen throwing a pint back before heading to his usual job.
"My lady," Thuribula says, looking at Maggwyn with a hint of surprise, "there is no question of force when people sit down together to discuss the parameters of their working together. Indeed, every society is built on this principle, or there would be only chaos. It is a lawless place we are about to enter--much could be at stake in regarding how much we trust one another."
She leans forward again with a smile. "Let me change my question, then. I assume you are familiar with what the Faith encourages and what it condemns. I have told you what I seek, what is important to me, and what my concerns are. What are yours? What do you seek? What moves your heart to enter this place? Do you believe we can rely on one another, when it comes down to it? And what does that reliance mean to you?"
Dabbert nods as Fazil and Maggwyn buy in, but then regards Thuribula, letting his emotionless expression soak up everything she is saying. Her lets this ride, letting the others respond, as he drinks coffee and thinks. That is what he does, after all. He studies his problem, studies the fight, be it philosophical, intellectual, or actual raw combat. That is his job...no...was his job...and these old skills die hard.
"There is no fixing this without bloodshed." He says finally, addressing the Flamekeeper's first concern. "A world without violence is ideal, Thuribula...but this..."
He raises his hands as if to gesture to the world around them.
"...this is beyond reason, beyond limited intervention. It'll take swords and bloodshed and suffering to make a meaningful impact on what has become of Drakkenheim. As for plying a trade... This is my trade, as much as I hate having to uh...admit it. And this town is full of tradesman and tradescraft, and none of them seem to have made a meaningful impact in the spread of the corruption the fallen star has brought after...how many years now?
Have you ever seen the fire brigade burn a field to keep a wildfire from crossing it and tearing through a village? That is what I'm proposing. Use the delirium as the catalyst to uh...stop this madness. Use it to do something good.
What moves my heart? I..."
Dabbert stops and considers this.
"My life has been destroyed by bloodshed. By suffering. By war and loss and grief and strife and all this shit that sucks a person's soul out of their chest. This is all I have, all I uh...know. And if I can lay my life and my body in the path of all of this, to be the barricade against the corruption and the people out there who it is threatening to take down the same road I have traveled for so long... If I can throw away what I have left to stop that from happening, to stop their suffering, to at least try to right some of what this star has caused... Well that's good enough for me.
Reliance isn't a question to me after this point. When I leave this table and walk out the door, whoever is at my side, that is proof enough of their reliability. At that point, whoever is with me has made their decision of their own free will. That's all I need to know."
He finishes his coffee, sits his mug aside, and heads toward the door.
Fazil didn't spill his past, not with how he has been pushed for a while now. Time will tell if he will be more upfront with his words, but for the time being, he will just let his actions speak more than words for him.
So, he got up from the seat and followed Dabbert out the door.
Thuribula listens to Dabbert's speech. And, she doesn't have a long and erudite response this time. Memories of home crowd into her mine, of the beautiful rolling plains and rivers, the forests and mountains, the fertile farms and villages full of kind and happy citizens, the shining gem of the Holy City of Lumen lifting hearts to heaven in an otherwise agrarian nation close to the bounty of nature. My home. All that I have known. I never came to Westemar until now, and what the meteor has made of this place... no one deserves this. I wish that everyone could have what we have in Elyria. Yes, this is worth fighting for.
"Elyria has armies too,"she says softly. "I understand this. This place is nothing like my home, but the people here deserve their home. It is why I came, too. This has become too big to ignore, to hope it will go away on its own. I want to see our light spread to this darkness, not see this corruption spread and infect all the rest of the world, which it will if we do not stand against it."
She smiles softly at Maggwyn and Fazil, and as Dabbert rises to leave, she also gets up, and follows him out. The moral law is important, but more important... is the heart. The moral law is nothing without the heart. Indeed, it springs from it. But apart from it, it is dry and thorny, a mere map of an inner land long dead. Whatever will come of this alliance, the Sacred Flame will show me the right path.
Maggwyn considers Thuribula's question and as she tries to figure out a way to answer, Dabbert interjects. A smile creeps over the tiefling's face as he does and his speech gives her renewed strength as to what they can do there. Not just her mission, but there can be more, so much more.
She gets up with Dabbert, squeezing his shoulder she softly says, "I'm always at your side. You know this."
She then rubs her hands together and follows the rest out, excited to get going on this race they have already lost precious time to.
Getting to Drakkenheim is no easy trek.. 2.. 3.. 4 hours? Without proper survival monitoring it was easy to lose that sorta time.
Nestled within a pine-covered valley, Drakkenheim is a walled metropolis that straddles the wide and sluggish Drann River. A high rocky hill rises above the city, upon which perches Castle Drakken. Below the imposing fortress, cobblestone streets weave around densely-packed stone buildings and slate-shingle spires. The city spills from the outer walls into a ruined urban sprawl.
The great dome of Saint Vitruvio’s Cathedral stands prominently southwest of the castle. At the heart of the city lies the Cosmological Clocktower of Market Square, and to the northwest is the Inscrutable Tower of the Amethyst Academy. The soaring obsidian-glass building is broken in half at the middle, but the top still hovers above in defiance of gravity.
Four bridges reach across the Drann River like desperate limbs; one is covered in massive stone statues of the heroes of old, and another lurches under the weight of the ramshackle homes and other buildings constructed upon its length.
Billowing clouds of midnight purple and dusky violet mask the sky overhead, casting the city in a dismal gloom. In the rare moments where the clouds part, stray sunbeams scornfully shine upon the city. There hasn’t been a clear day in Drakkenheim in fifteen years.
It seems they had finally... Made it here to Drakkenheim.
When they are ready to head to the city here is how exploration rules work in Drakkenheim.
Plenty of Drakkenheim is in such ruin it's difficult terrain when traveling.
The haze makes it hard to see past 30 to 60 feet depending on the day.
Sunlight is artificial in the haze. When searching a landmark history checks are needed but River has marked the location on you're map so tracking the tavern down isn't as needed.
You can go at a fact pace. Helps you get to a place faster. This pace will be important in the Deep Haze later on. Can't stealth at a fast pace and become less perceptive. (Negative 5)
The normal haze you cannot long rest in. Eckerman Mill is outside that haze and commonly rested at so is Emberwood Village but that is farther.
If you are in the haze for 24 hours or longer you risk contamination.
6 levels of contamination and you become a monster. Every level of contamination has debilitating effects and each level risk a new mutation.
Normal pace allows investigation and perception checks at advantage (You can stealth but more on that later)
Slow pace.
Perception and Investigation at normal rolls but stealth at advantage but you get to locations a lot more snailish and at times this can cause a problem but some jobs require no rush.
Ability checks
When traveling you can choose to either.
1: Keep watch
You make a perception check and use the result if it's higher than you're passive perception. You can also warn you're friends of a threat protecting them from a surprise round.
2: Focus on stealth/ambush
Normal and slow paces you are stealthing, you make a stealth check and if it's higher than the enemy you run across's perception (Unless they are an active monster some can make a roll if alert) but if you beat their roll or passive depending you get a surprise round. However only those who were stealthing get a free round not the entire party.
3: Look for treasure
You can make either a..
Survival Check
Investigation Check
or Arcana Check
And search for Delirium and other treasures. You do steer the map a bit and failed checks increase the encounter rate. Here in the Outer City it's a DC 15.
If you roll a 20 however you gain two "Successes" the successes and failures are added together as a party so only make this check if you feel good about the modifier you are using.
History checks are for finding
4: Looking for a new area
A new landmark/adventure site/location
You will make a history check as you travel.
You can even choose an area on the map and keep searching if you wish. Or collect rumors and info back at town may be easier as well.
For certain area's you hunt later on I may require a nature check. (If you hunt for it without outside help.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Fazil became extremely cautious of his surroundings, and then he decided to cast the Mage Armor, boosting his AC to 14 for 8 hours. Afterward, he checks the area while sticking with the group.

Dabbert regards all three of his companions, nodding and reaching out to pat Thuribula on the shoulder. He speaks to all of them, but her in particular.
"I'm glad you're with me." Is all he says.
They stop long enough to study the map and their position.
"I'm not uh...exactly sure where we are." Dabbert says, keeping his voice low. He has his shield over his left arm, and his spear leans where he can grab it as he traces a finger over the map. "I have no preference for marching order, though either Thuribula or I need to be up front, in my opinion. Fazil, stay close to whoever is in the middle, aye? Maggwyn, if you don't mind, we could use someone with a little lighter footfalls to do reconnaissance work as we travel. Think you'd be up for it?"
He fingers the spot on the champions road.
"I think this is uh...where we're going." He says. "I think. In and out, quick footed if we can. I don't want to be here any longer than we have to be, and preferably we're out before dark. Stealth is good, but the less time we're here, the less attention we'll draw. In uh...theory."
@DM: Can we get clarification of our current position on the map, or where we entered at least? I feel like I'm missing something obvious.

I just need to know what Thuribula and Maggwyn are doing.
If Maggwyn wishes to scout she can roll stealth as they travel. At a fast pace they can't use stealth though.
Drakkenheim exploration rules can be overwhelming at first (And probably easier to explain in person lol) but they slowly make sense as time goes on.
As the group makes their preparations to leave Emberwood village after exiting the Bark and Buzzard, Thuribula stops at Saint Arwenna's to complete some morning prayers and rituals and commend herself and the group's mission to Flamekeeper Hannah, and anyone else who is there, asking for any last minute advice or recommendations. If Ophelia or any of the other Silver Older paladins are there, she tells them of her intention to find and return to them with a piece of delerium.
Then she pays a visit to Tobias Crowe, whom she had left Rikard's armor with. Not knowing, at the time, that Dabbert had paid her balance, she had intended to return with some means of reimbursing him, but now she returns to see if the armor repair and modification has been completed. If it has, she'll turn over her Elyrian chainmail to him as the agreed part of the trade, and put on the refitted and repaired splint armor. Thuribula is strong, but even this armor is heavy for her, and it slows her pace somewhat. Hopefully that won't matter too much. If I could acquire a good steed, at some point, it wouldn't matter at all...
As quickly as she can, she meets up with the others, and they head out for the famed city of Drakkenheim. Looking at the map, Thuribula realizes she is unfamiliar with all of the city, but whoever Dabbert talked to about the deposit of delerium he's seeking seems to have marked his map. "Champion's Road?" Something about that, or maybe the gate it runs to, sounds familiar, but she can't remember where she's heard the name. "This is where the meteor fell, right?" And she points on the map. "The mark looks awfully close to the point of collision. Do you suppose it's safe to get that close?"
Looking at Fazil, she says, "Go ahead and stay with me in the middle. Rikard's armor is heavy, so it slows me down a little, but if you stay close to me I can help protect you." She smiles at Dabbert. "Lead the way... I believe you know, or can guess, it the best." As the party moves, Thuribula tries to look for landmarks, places she might recognize from rumors or from the map.
"Um, that's my map that you're looking at there missy." She nods at Dabbert's request of doing some reconnaissance work. "You got it boss."
Leaning over the others to look at the map, she points at entrances to the inner city, "The crash site is still within these walls and you can only enter the inner city through these gates or the sewer entrances and are all dangerous. I'm sure you'd gather that. Not only is it difficult to get in, once you are, the deep haze in the inner city? That shit will mess you up fast. We're heading to the Outer City, dangerous but not bad as long as we don't linger."
She rolls up the map and stuffs it back in her pack, "I think we shouldn't dawdle but also stealth will be good, so normal pace?"
Maggwyn stares at Thuribula for a beat, "Wow you talk a lot. I think... I think I got the grasp? Well, first off, thank you for the offer, but I am not interested in joining the Order. "Good info about that fog, Maggwyn. Good to know we'll only be in the bad part, not the uh...really bad part."
He nods when Thuribula gives her approval, and gets moving, shield and spear ready as he begins to slip into Drakkenheim...
DM of AURYN: The Measure of Devotion - Escape from New York
OOC
I shoulda clarified that the version I sent was Maggwyn's map due to her exploration before and her background.
in order to stealth and perception (Not use passive) and make both checks a slow pace is required.
Are we going the slow pace than?
Oh wait I read a normal pace I will use her passive perception than ^^ (Probably better than the 10 she rolled so not too bad lol)
Now I have to roll some DM dice as they travel~
