You look around only to see a deseetes.corridor, with the opposite room doors closed and quites as by this time of night majoirity of the resisfents wouuld be asleep. There is a faint murmur coming from the tavern portion of this place, probably just the last few people getting ready packup for the day and the workers ready end it.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Not sure if the visitor left or went into Nilavors room, Cyrano takes a chance and slips into the hallway then to the door next door. Pressing an ear gently to the wood he listens for any noise coming from inside.
Vadania listens closely to all Cyrano imparted from his time on watch. Nodding a good night, Vandania paced the length of the hallway; going through a series of shrugs and stretches to fully wake up after his hours of trance meditation. He cocked an ear to listen to the tavern. The Wood Elf knew taverns are excellent for three things: drinking, talking (or boasting), and fighting. Luckily, this evening was filled more with drinking and talking than broken chairs and smashed clay mugs.
As late as it was, Vadania could hear the low voiced exchanges of those few diehards that were deep into their cups downstairs. Otherwise, the tavern seemed to have settled in for the night. As silently as possible, Vadania slide back down the hallway and examined each closed door and the condition of the one window in the area.
[Stealth: 13] [Passive Perception: 12]
Vadania ponders his current situation. What should have been a simple travel escort job escalated into a botched attempt at an assassination of their charge and a less than honest entry into the town. And now it appears more assassination attempts might be part of his immediate future. A slight smile crossed his lips as he thought on this.
'Typically, a tavern is a place of rest, of comfort, a place where a party can finally take some time out of their chaotic lives just to relax. It makes such a place almost like a home away from home. The comforting atmosphere lulled many into letting down one's guard -- at the worst possible times,' he thought as he made another circuit of the upstairs.
Vadania snoops around unnoticed by the tavern patrons and manager. When he passes Nilavor's room he noticed a lack of any noise... even the noises that people sleeping would normally make. You feel that something is off, something is not right.
Vadania investigates [ passive investigation: 10 ] as best he is able though he has a gut feeling he needs Cyrano or Fjorn as a backup. They need their rest though...
Vadania will intently listen at Nilavor's door to see if his ears have played a trick on him. The absence of sound did not bode well.
Vadania came to a decision within himself. With a small nod of his head, he grabbed his leather gloves and slide them on... in the hopes it protected him from any contact poisons or other magical traps the door might have in store. Steeling himself, he slowly attempts to open the door. Sleight of Handcombat log: 10
Vadania swings open the door with no problem. On opening he sees Carter lying on the floor, unconscious and Nilavor no where in site. The room appeared undisturbed besides the unkept beds at the right side of the room against the wall and open door to the balcony which let in a chilled air straight ahead.
Vadania immediately moves down to the other room and awakens his companions. As they dress, he fills them in on what he didn't hear or see... and how he found Carter and no Nilavor. He implores them to join him in the other room as he ministers to Carter.
Vadania will remove a glove and check for a pulse. Medicine Check: combat log: 17 (if there IS a pulse, Vadania will do all the typical body checks for slashes / blood pools, etc. and then grab a mug and some water to sprinkle onto Carter's face.)
As all this is going on, Vadania will be working out in his head just how long he spent 'patrolling the halls' before going in.. how long of a head start Nilavor's captors might have.
Carter gasped after Vadania splashed water on his face. "The lord of Keys sent someone to capture Young Master. Please inform Lord Abt. Here I grabbed this of the attackers shirt before I was knocked out.", Carter started to spew out information left and right, he handed you a badge in the shape of a sheild with a black background, a gold border and what seems to be a bright red boat at the center.
Carter did not have any wounds but he probably has head trauma as he fell down after he was knocked unconscious.
“Okay okay just what’s the plan here? I kinda liked Nilvor one he gave me an excuse to come here two he offered me a gig turned out to be a lie, I made a lotta money off them assassins, but now what we are marked with a bounty? How likely is Nilvor still alive? Speaking of which them lovely ladies we travelled with, they vanished too?” Fjörn paces nervously, “So what’s the plan here us vs an assassin group even if we get help that’s a tall order. I’m not giving up just we’re in deep here.”
Fjörn starts nervously tapping his foot then outta nowhere he starts humming and singing seems he was inspired by the dire situation…
"Fjörn is not wrong. This simple escort mission was based on a lie and the lies are compounding hourly. Assassins, noble catfights, missing companions... things are piling up."
Vadania nodded at Cyrano. "Perhaps notifying the Lord would be best. They should know the ins and outs of how the nobles and assassins work in this town. Plus we can take Carter with us as the one witness to the kidnapping of Nilavor -- and that scrap of cloth... it is either a clue or something to throw us off the trail. That is for others to decide, in my opinion."
Fully packed and ready to go in whatever direction the others decide, Vadania stands ready to move out.
Cyrano slips to the other side of the door and hazards a peek outside.

Cyrano doesn't here anything.
Except snoring Fjörn is a loud sleeper especially when he’s deep asleep.
Wise as a serpent and sly as a fox.
Cyrano returns to his room and finishes his watch. He wakes Vadania and reports what happened before getting some rest himself.

Fjörn once awakened and given the unfortunate information begins truly looking for any clues, hair bootprints spittle blood whatever odd or unusual…

Vadania slaps Fjörn on the back, "Shake it off, my friend. We have a long night ahead of us no matter our choices." Investigation: 16
Vadania does not see anything new in the room. There was nothing that he did not notice when he entered the room.
Cyrano quietly scolds himself for not checking into the steps more thoroughly..
"We should alert the Lord. This may take more man power than our trio can provide.
