The last of the Dusk Elf maidens is satisfied with having managed to open an escape route, as well as having easily avoided the onslaught of the objects... but on the other hand, she had seen them move in time and was quick to react. She, however, is a little worried by the bizarre phenomenon of the mist, which, as begins to flood in to the room, also begins to change its hue from an arcane purple to a sickly green... as well as by the wounds received by the two companions of misfortune - but she doesn't want to think about it right now, there will be time as soon as they all reach a safer place.
"Rufus made it..." Svetlana is relieved "Now Rhykal will come too, we will reach the front door and go back inside from there, then closing it behind us".
The Savage Wanderer therefore waits for the other to come out too, just to make sure she doesn't leave her behind... then quickly sprints towards the front door.
(Probably outrunning the others too, since she has more movement - 35' instead of 30' - but that's fine; if she gets to the front door before them, she opens it, waits for them inside, then closes it as soon as they are entered)
As Rufus Tumbles out into the mists through the new opening made by Svetlana, he is enveloped in a thick green fog. Svetlana watches Rufus disappear before her eyes and turns her gaze to Rhykal, who, with a frustrated look on her face thinks to herself "Gah! I'm tired of this place deciding my fate for me. No longer!" And she attempts a few kicks to break the door down. To no avail, she is enraged even more. She shakes her head, closes her eyes for a moment, and darts toward the window and vanishes through the mists, followed by Svetlana.
Svetlana and Rufus will now need to make aCon savings throw
Rufus: Movement out of house Svetlana: hold movement/action triggered Rhykal: Movement out of house Miralen: No action Radallion: No action
Rufus and Svetlana: As each of you leaps out into the mist, the scent of the air is unfamiliar to you. The mist is so dense, and too sickly to to orient yourself on the outside of the house... with each breath you become more disoriented. Svetlana relies on her visceral survival instincts and begins searching for the structure of the building he just leapt out of... to no avail. she begins to cough as the mist creeps into her lungs and burns her eyes. Rufus begins to shout for Svetlana, through the pain he feels in his lungs. in critical thought, he attempts to illuminate the mists and cracks another apparatus that produces light. As he searches for Svetlana, his vision begins to blur and darken. is body goes week and begins to stumble. between eye blinks he sees a figure approach him... Svetlana. She approaches and firmly grasps at his collar. Supporting him, or leaning on him... it's indiscernible. but in a moment they both collapse to the ground as they render conscious and coherent thought... perhaps for the last time.
unaware of where they are or the conditions of their comrades, What are the final thoughts of Rufus Van Hildegoath and Svetlana Dinteina before the vile mist claims them?
Miralen: As panic sets in, you're unsure of what is happening in the room beyond the door ahead of you. As Radallion begins to comfort you from behind you hear a whisper... "Of course...." and you hear foot steps lead off behind you. As you turn around, you see Radallion walking away from the hall, back to the foyer. As you slowly follow, the only sound that can be heard is your own footsteps. Step by step... you follow Radallion. To the foyer, out past the front door. To the porch, where a rotten smell hits your nose and makes your eyes water. you lose sight of Radallion as he circles the wrap around porch. as you follow and look down the east side of the porch where he went, he is gone. terrified, you begin to walk across this length of the porch, peering in dark windows in hopes to see him. suddenly, a floorboard creeks underneath your foot. it sinks beneath your feet much more than the rest of the porch. a loose board? The smell is intense here... the horror of what you might find underneath the porch doesnt match the curiosity and greater fear of being alone, so you attempt to grab and lift the floorboard up. as you agitate it, maggots begin to flee out from underneath the board. getting a better grip, as the maggots cover the ground and begin to crawl up your hands, you manage to snap the board up, revealing a small hole. small enough that only you could creep through.you see about 3 feet down underneath the porch before you see ground, and you begin to crawl in. Maggots fall on top of you and in your hair as you shimmy under the porch. no vegetation grows under here in the dark. with the very little light you have, you can see dirt mounds off toward the center of underneath the house. the scent of death is at its most potent under here. as you wade your way through the mud, you reach one of the mounds. disgusted and terrified, you begin to wipe the mud off of your face, and you notice.... the mud is... red? is this all... blood? in this moment, you fear you know what these mounds are underneath this house. as you begin to uncover the one in front of you, you shove mud and maggots away revealing the body of a Dwarf... Ansur. the horror compells you to shout as you back away from the body. Dirt and maggots shuffle down from the floorboards above you, and as you look up, you see a pale Radallion clinging to the boards staring at you from above; Maggots, crawling out from the corners of his eyelids. you attempt to scream but your voice finds no breath. This undead Radallion lunges down at you as you flinch and close your eyes to total darkness.
ALL: Each of you, comatose, practically lifeless and in a dream like state, are no longer conscious or capable of clear thought. is this death? Is this the beyond? A few glimpses of tangible reality may be present to you through the vast scape of abstract surreality that clutches your mind: you feel weightless, as if you're being carried. another separate moment: an unfamiliar voice fades in and out but you can make out some words... "house of lament"...."The keepers"...."Martikov"...."Dark... legacies?". Then.... all fades to black.
Rufus chokes on the vile poison invading his lungs. Is this really the end? To die on an endless mist? No, it can't be real. This must be some horrid night terror, like father used to experience. The world begins to fade, and Rufus with it, slipping into a black hole of oblivion.
Perhaps I am truly following in father's footsteps. I am going mad. Edgar has come to claim me, at last.
The last of the Dusk Elf maidens soon realizes that the fog in which she now finds herself is no less dangerous than the haunted conservatory. The Voices in her head, hysterically, shout at her to escape, to save herself... and yet... and yet something about her holds her back, makes her linger...
Looking for Rufus, who for some reason does not want to leave alone, Svetlana lingers, lungs burning, eyes, burning, but she finally finds him. She approaches and firmly grasps his collar. Supporting him, or leaning on him... it's indiscernible. but in a moment they both collapse to the ground.
Even the Voices in her heads stopped screaming in her head. The Savage Wanderer feels a completely unusual silence in her thoughts before losing consciousness.
"Peace?" Svetlana has time to think, still holding onto the man she didn't want to leave behind "Is this what is called 'peace'?"
