Eron will stick near Tillman as he thoroughly explores each room. When he wishes to check the attic, Eron will help him up and is ready to catch or follow if Tillman needs him.
Leohas worked his way up the stairs as the swarm of centipedes continues to occupy more and more of the kitchen. He continues to watch them. No one and nothing else has appeared within the area he is watching.
The party works their way through upstairs of the haunted house. Tillimanand Arlynn do most of the searching, with Eronand Fanefollowing along as an extra set of eyes and ears. The rainstorm outside continues to blow and rumble [still, nothing at all compared to the recent hurricane] and more and more small leaks appear as water drips down from above.
A. Rubbish is scattered around what was once a fine guest bedroom; there is evidence of rodent infestation, and webs hang in the corners. A four-poster bed stands against the wall opposite the fireplace. Its woodwork is worm-ridden, and the curtains that once screened the bed are torn and stained. There is no bed linen, but the bed is mostly intact. In fact, the bed shows signs of recent use. Tillimandetects mud stains on the sheets... someone has been sleeping in this bed with dirty boots!
B. What was once a fine master bedroom now stands decayed. Some of the floorboards are missing, and there is rubbish scattered around. A tall wooden wardrobe stands against the wall opposite the fireplace, its door closed. Opening the wardrobe reveals a pair of old, cracked leather boots and a ragged, stained cloak hanging on a peg. The cloak is tooled with a design of coiling ivy leaves. Everything inside the wardrobe has a dank, musty odor.
C. This room appears to have been used for storage. A large, ill-made oak chest stands under the window, its lid closed. Elsewhere in the room lie three broken wooden chairs, two splintered wooden buckets, and a mildewed sack. After painstakingly examining the chest for traps, Tillimanpops it open to reveal... the chest is empty. The sack is likewise a disappointment, full of old, rotten clothing.
D. Damp mold covers portions of the walls and ceiling in this large bedroom, and rubbish is strewn liberally around the floor. In the center is a single mattress that has been badly torn, from which stuffing protrudes. Under the window sits a large wooden chest, the timbers split and its lid closed. The chest is not locked and opens easily. Inside is a pile of moldy, ragged clothing in styles that were never in fashion — nothing of value — and a bundle of documents. These pages are rotted and stained, their meaning or relevance lost long ago.
E. This bedroom has no furniture, but rubbish is scattered everywhere, and webs cover the walls and ceiling. From the doorway, you can see a glint of light in the fireplace from a small, highly reflective object. From out of the wet ashes of the fireplace, Tillimanpulls a small crystal bauble. The flat-bottomed crystal orb is pleasant to look at and tactilely satisfying to hold, but ultimately neither particularly valuable nor useful. At the window, Tilliman and Arlynnboth notice something... A combination of the position of the house and the topography of the cliff results in this room providing the best view of the sea from any part of the house. Scratches in the sill indicate this window has been opened regularly, and there is an absence of dust on the floor as well as a few cigar butts. Both of them get the impression that someone has spent a great deal of time at this window, staring out to sea....

Tilliman will pocket the bauble as he stares out the window, muttering "I still feel like we're missing something..." Completely oblivious to any irritation it's causing others. He'll even peek through the bauble out the window, seeing if there's anything to be revealed that way...
He welcomes Eron's aid in inspecting the attic. He'll want to peek while putting as little of his actual body weight as he can on the attic floor...

Using Tilliman'srope, he and Eronpop up through the gaping hole in the floor where the top of the staircase used to lead before it collapsed.
There are grimy cobwebs on the walls and ceiling, and the floor is covered with broken furniture and other rubbish. Two large sacks lie heaped in the northwest corner. Bird feathers are scattered near the sacks.
Several holes in the roof allow dim light to enter this large room that extends the length of the house. Rain drizzles through these holes now, making everything up here damp and moist, and feeding the many drips on the lower levels of the house.
[DM is confused about the 'not putting weight on the attic floor.' Other than hovering, how can you avoid putting weight down? Do you mean you're not going to walk all the way around up there, just poking your head up to look around?]

[Correct, just poking my head up there to look around]
Does it look like this space has been accessed recently? If not, Tilliman will head back down. If so, he'll (probably unwisely) go to inspect those sacks unless Eron stops him.

The blue-haired half-elf is visibly disappointed with not finding her precious gear yet. She will simply have to find those pesky pirates that stole them from her and she suspects they are still around somewhere. As she and the professor finds the room with a view, Arlynn to watches for some time, trying to figure out what anyone could have been looking for here while they smoked their cigars. "Do you think anyone would use this window to signal to a ship?" She asks the peculiar gnome as she keeps following him. She would not move into the rooms with the unsafe floors though.
(Did Tilliman see anything when he looked out to sea through the blue bauble? :-)
No, the bauble does not reveal anything special out to sea. It is pretty to look at but the properties of its crystalline structure don't lend it to functioning as a magnifier, or much of signaling flasher. It looks like little more than a fancy crystal paperweight.
If someone were planning to signal ships, or just watch their passage along the coast, Arlynnfinds that this window would be the best place in the house to do it from.
Nothing about the attic gives Tillimanthe impression that it has been accessed recently. The collapsed attic stairs are little more than a soft, mushroom packed mass in the upstairs landing... they look to have fallen many years ago and there is no sign of anyone arranging an alternate way to access the attic space.

As far as Leo can tell, the centipedes look real enough.
[So where to? You've swept the upstairs and declined to poke deeper into the attic? Will you return to the ground floor down the nearby rear stairs, which may provoke an encounter with these centipedes? Of head back to the main entry stairs? Or shall some other course be charted?]

"If we're looking for those pirates I doubt we will find them hiding in the attic. Have you checked everything downstairs?"The blue-haired half-elf says, looking between her rescuers.
"No we have not searched everything" Fane will offer, "we searched some of the main floor, and nothing of the basement yet. I say we head down to the main floor the way we came up, via the central stairs. Avoid the centipedes for now. Perhaps we'll find something on the main floor, or another way to the basement".
The blue-haired half-elf smiles and nods in agreement with Fane. "Yes, unless we are here to make this house habitable again I suggest we ignore any vermin we come across, the pirates that took my gear being an exception of course." She finishes with a grin.
[No sweat on the athletics. The bad section of floor doesn't really require an athletics check to clear. It is more a question of stealth. It would be very difficult to jump it quietly. Perhaps Eronwas a bit less graceful than he would have liked, but no harm done.]
The party is able to clear the weak-spot on the balcony and descend back down the creaking stairs to the main foyer, where the ghost-illusion had been triggered.
