backstory: (I need a few pointers about vampirism in your world, like if vampires exist, if vampirism is common, where it could have happened, if the public loathes/fears/hunts them.)
First, vampires exist. Second, it is frowned upon and not exactly common. Third, they are hunted to the ends of the world by the followers of the Dusk Weaver, which is by far the largest organized religion in Sabitah. Fourth, they were a part of the threat that descended upon Sabitah that spelt the end of the Second Age. Fifth, there are good vampires somewhere in the world and they tend to be reclusive or eccentric enough that people mostly ignore them or don't question much about their nature.
You will have to hide the fact that you are a dhampir. This is not to discount your backstory, but I'm going to take a page from "Thousand Year Old Vampire" and ask you to explain how you hide your nature as a member of the Scarlet Barony. You will have to think about how you can sate your hunger and what kind of hunger is plaguing you. How recent was the attack and do you even remember the vampire that attacked you? Make an immortal character.
As the Scarlet Barony is also an organization that takes in mostly orphans, your family must be either from Mantagard or the surrounding cities, which are Saikhan, Cloudhill, or Kuarna. Kuarna is the most logical because it is remote and doesn't have a lot of protection so a vampire can easily hide there for a time to terrorize the people.
I actually planned an arc for one of the leaving players about encountering a vampire society because he was a cleric of the Dusk Weaver, but that's up in the air now. And one of the current players is also a dhampir. His hunger is psychic energy from heightened emotion.
We'll be having our out-of-character chat via Discord. I also put maps there. Some also prefer rolling via Avrae in Discord or through their character sheet, which Avrae usually display in the Discord channel. Just to let you know.
That actually might work really well. The PC I was planning to play is a black sheep of a Genasi family that runs a temple for a deity of the elements/storms. Unlike other members of his family, he is unable to call on the magic of the god, so he works as sort of the handyman/errand boy of the temple. Eventually, while returning from one of his errand runs in a town about a half day of travel away, he returns to find those of the temple massacred, with no signs showing his family either were among those killed or escaped. This brings him into almost a broken/crazed state for a short time, in which some deity drove him to a ritual site in which he became a blood hunter. Afterwards, he wandered through the woods until finding an old hermit that was a former military man. This man would go on to train the PC, teaching them more about warfare and fighting against different monsters. Eventually, the hermit passes away, leading to the PC going out to try and solve what happened to his own family.
i’ve also talked with groverbloom & we’ve worked to have a bit of a background connection, if we both are accepted.
I’d say changes to this would go from being a Genasi to a different race and the deity be around that particular race. The rest of the story, though, would remain the same.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
This sounds like a really cool campaign. Would love to be considered.
Ability scores: 16175161610
Character name: Aejor Kethremixint
Race: Eladrin Elf (Spring)
Class: War Domain Cleric
Background: Aejor originates from (very) far away. He still sometimes struggles with social norms and understanding some people's behavior, or more importantly, why people sometimes seem frustrated by his. He was raised as a warrior in his hometown, but was banished, or sent off on a secret mission, or ended a disasterous romantic relationship, or....it is never quite clear to anyone else (or Aejor for that matter). He has lived in various parts of Vorgeris for the past few decades, flitting and flying where the breeze takes him. Aejor is, however, a fierce warrior and an extremely loyal (if temporary) friend. He has become an agent for the Archives of Ages, although not one of their more reliable ones. He likes the work.
Why is he at the Tinkling Thunder inn: He recently learned that an old friend (Boscombe), whom he had adventured with in the past, has gone missing in Erdelun. He is on his way to try and figure out what is going on, unless something else distracts his attention.
Personal Goal: Every day of Aejor's life has been the best day of his life. He seeks out novel experiences, drinking life in to the fullest. Currently, he would like to know what happened to Boscombe, and help him out if possible.
Ability scores (if needed, if not standard array): Ability scores: 81612111215
Class: Warlock -- Subclass: Celestial.
Race: Aasimar.
Background: Acolyte (Either of the Light of Niskala/The Redeemed Heavenly Court [think a promised salvation of the Could Have Been King, sort of religion]/Curiosity and Enlightenment). Would be keen to pin down what religion is up to in your world, and pick something appropriate to the vibe and implications of Pal's backstory.
Alignment: Neutral Good
Backstory: Pal Adein is an acolyte, a holy child in a holy family, whose mother's mother and whose father's father were both members of the church. The second of two children, Pal has turned 16 and completed the Rites of Propition to ward away the madness of the Magoi and bring good fortune to the Age of Enlightenment in which they now live. Spry, quick, charismatic, Pal seemed to have it all, the attention of his temple squarely on him as a prime candidate for true initiation as a cleric after many more years of cloistered study and meditation within the walls of his holy compound.
Like his brother before him, who left to do good work as a martial warrior of the faith, this future filled Pal with a deep unease and uncertainty. He wished to do good for the world, but, surely, there must be other ways to do good. Ways that might involve seeing the world.
Pal's brother was a holy warrior (described in terms that sound like a Paladin to Pal, but in truth a Celestial Pact of the Blade Warlock), and he wrote frequently. Until he didn't.
In the last months, the letters have stopped. Pal's brother was to be working with the Ranger's Enclave in Saikhan, pursuing a mission of utmost secrecy. Posted from Tinkling Thunder Inn, Pal has spent the final months of his being fifteen years old filled with dread and anxiety at what the sudden silence might mean.
He takes the mindset that, where his brother and parents are concerned, it is better to act as his conscience says he must and ask for forgiveness at a later point, once the dust has settled. Once he is sixteen and a legal adult (we can change as needed), he sets out from the compound at night, to head to Saikhan and the Tinkling Thunder Inn. He will find out what has happened to his brother, and he will save him if he lives still.
Pal is a little pampered, and is learning to rough it. He's always been well supplied with things he needs, so he's a little shocked by poverty and want outside the walls of his cloistered upbringing. I'm assuming that as well as a strong clergy background, some lesser divinity/servant of the gods runs in both sides of his family, and then has unified in he and his brother giving them the attention of a patron (or two separate patrons, one each. Could be fun).
Obviously, not a ton about the Celestial Patron here. I'd want to discuss that with you in terms of name and in terms of involvement with Pal. A slightly more distant Patron is my preference, not one that Pal would be talking to in every post sort of thing.
In terms of items, I think that the pact might be sealed by an uncommon magical item, either a memento that he has found as a clue that belonged to his brother as one of his warlock items (perhaps sent to his brother with his final letter, introducing patron or something like that), or one directly bestowed on him by his patron.
As a pact of the tome patron, I was wondering if reflavoring some tomes as his pact tome or book marks or things would be a neat thing to do too, but item wise:
Uncommon heirloom/Pact item, whichever may suit adventure and tone best, any of:
Plot Hook: Searching for his brother with the Rangers' Enclave, he seeks to find out his brothers fate, and perhaps to help and succeed where he could not in the mission of the Enclave for the good of the world.
In my head, I'm seeing his using the Pact of the Tome for some healing spells and rituals that are of use to the group. His Aasimar features and Celestial Spell list also offer buffs and heals. The Dragon Vessel if reflavoured could improve with levelling at the appropriate tiers and offers utility and healing potions as you go along. Because of the Celestial 6th level feature, he might never choose Eldritch Blast so he'd be a little different to your other warlock in that regard too, instead using Fire Bolt and Sacred Flame (and then ultimately getting to add his charisma like an agonizing blast, instead).
As a short rest character like your other warlock, it is a frequently refreshing pact magic resource, and then the celestial subclass features themselves are quite useful and allow healing from a pool of dice. As level four he’s gone for a feat that grants expertise in Medicine, so really all in on healing and getting people up when they go down/curing disease and eventually curses.
(IRL, I work in health, so may help with some of the role play around the medicine checks and healing spells)
Drat. I edited my post to add in a little bit about his traits and being pampered and it looks like the ability roll scores have changed, so they no longer match the character sheet. They were 16, 14, 13, 13, 10, 8, which are worse, so hopefully this does seem honest, haha. Again, not sure if that ability method is the one you're using in any case. Let me know what you'd like me to do about it, if chosen.
Edit the second:
I’ve just read through the further information you’ve provided on the Sentinels, that only three fell, and that Ynana the Lightbearer is related to House Clarent. It seems like a perfect fit. Do they have any particular hierarchy of celestials?
Would Ynana have possibly begun an aasimar’s line in the third age, or are there Empyreans or Planatars in this cosmology that might serve them, and also more directly interact with the world (either directly with a descendant of their line, or on behalf of Ynana with someone who has her blood is my idea)? With the Seven Sentinels being remote deities now (I’m kind of envisaging them as similar to the Sovereigns in Eberron or the Gated Gods in Tal’Dorei?) are their proxies all mortals, or is there a particular named proxy or demigod who might be appropriate and well linked to the party and story as a celestial patron?
I do love lore, sorry, if it’s too many questions!
Hello. I was reading the premise to your adventure, and I am very interested in joining your group, if you will have me. I am fairly new to D&D 5th edition and was involved in another PbP campaign until yesterday, when the DM pulled the plug. It was a shame, because I was really enjoying it. I have included my character below as well as a backstory. I appreciate you taking the time to consider me.
Character's Name: Vorpax Taxir
Race: Dragonborn (Silver)
Class: Paladin (Oath of Devotion)
Backstory:Taxir, First Hatched of the Vorpax Clan, is the favorite son of Blexir, and was chosen to lead the clan when the time came. Taxir is strong and honorable, but stubborn, headstrong, and a bit of a bully. He uses his size and mannerisms to intimidate others of his clan, and smaller humanoids. He always has a soft heart for the weak and defenseless and will lay his life on the line to protect them. He will do anything for his clan, but he knows he needs improvement.
Character's Reason for Being in Saikhan: There was an incident involving a misunderstanding with another clan that Taxir took as an insult, and a war was almost started because of his brashness and lack of tact. His father has sent him away to hopefully learn from the humanoids, especially the diplomatic High-Elves, the life skills he is seriously lacking if he is truly deserving to lead his clan. Also, Blexir will use this time to hopefully calm things down with the other clan during his son's absence.
Character's Personal Goal: He decides to travel to Saikhan in order to offer his services to another noble house, with the personal goal of forming an alliance with that house. His thinking is that if he were to create this great alliance, this will truly win favor with his father and cement his role as heir. He also wants to honor his father's wishes by training with a diplomat to learn tact, even though Taxir is not sure he needs it.
First of all, thank you all for applying. Your characters are all interesting and unique. However, just interesting and unique is not always enough, and we do have to limit the number of players, so we have to choose the ones who fit best with the world and the current players. So, I will be closing the recruitment with this post.
We've made a choice on who we'll be playing with. I will be PMing the ones who are chosen within the next 12 hours (because it's late when I post this) with a link to the Discord channel we use for out of character discussion and a link to the main campaign thread. We won't start right away because we still have to flesh out more of the backstory -- and a sort of session 0 for you and the current players. Homebrew rules will also be discussed, including the homebrew monetary system I've alluded in the thread. You will also get to peruse the campaign recap and currently cannon lore if you so wish. That also reminda me that I really need to update soon to include the latest development. 😅
To those who are not chosen and won't receive my PM, as I said before, it's not that your characters are not interesting, but the others seem to fit better with the current players and the direction of the campaign. I hope we can still meet and play together in another campaign in the future.
Thank you again everyone.

Tackling the healing aspect of your party's needs more than the tank aspect, I'd like to propose:
