Schminke not in any position to take a pot shot at the fleeing goblin resigns herself to examining the party. Celeryn and Killian look a bit worse for wear with her own injury merely being a flesh wound. She pipes up, "Perhaps we should use this brief moment of respite to take a short rest and gather ourselves? It'll give the goblins time to prepare but at least we'll be at full fighting strength."
Killian nods to Schminke, his eyes narrowed as the sun shifts through the overhanging branches. Just bright enough to be an irritation, but little else.
"If we're going to stop and rest here, we'll need to be extra vigilant," Jhess says with a worried glance at the cave entrance. "There's a good chance any other goblins in there are aware of our presence now that I've used my pistol out here."
"Maybe they'll think it was thunder..." Killian suggested with a shrug of his shoulders.
Guess I should have mentioned this houserule awhile back... oops. I've used it for so long I don't even think of it as a houserule anymore. The first short rest after a long rest takes five to ten minutes. The second short rest takes thirty minutes. Each short rest after that takes the full hour.
Celeryn was vocally grateful that his group had recognized a need for brief respite, considering the absolutely harried, break-neck pace they had been zooming through for the better part of the morning. He propped his shield up in front of himself and focused his elfin gaze towards the mouth of the cave, but the passing of several moments revealed no further activity of goblins or wolves.
"Vigilance is its own reward," he admitted, "but for the moment I do believe we are safe. I shouldn't say quite the same once we decide to plunge headlong into the beast."
His wounds seemed now more superficial than initially suspected, and by his best estimate, probably did not need any true medical advice, just time and rest and perhaps a little prayer. As an act of devotion to Selûne, he produced a nifty artefact - a small octahedron cut from glistering marble - and rolled it to divine some slight augury of her forthcoming purpose for him.
Hit dice: 2 + 1 = 13

"Brightly woven!" he exclaimed, as the roll produced a crescent-shaped sigil that pleased him to look at, and alleviated his pain. A short rest was no substitute for a good three weeks' vacation, but nevertheless it refreshed him as much as could be expected.
Seeing that his companions were resting likewise, he then took the time to pore over his tomes of magic and mystery, beginning to ritual cast the incantations for Detect Magic.
The cave wouldn't sit and wait forever, but now he was ready for it.
Celeryn's ritual incantation finishes with subtle flourish and the elf's senses are suddenly overwhelmed briefly by the magic of the Weave that infuses all life and world around him, before his vision clears and focuses on his immediate surroundings. Subtle traces of ancient magic linger, but within a half dozen paces, there are no active sources of magic.
Taking a deep breath, Jhess stands up from her own brief rest, during which her eyes never left the entrance to the cave and her pistol never left her grip.
"I think that's probably about all of the time we can afford to spare. Is everyone ready to move again?"
