Ash: Halda responds to your kindness. "Thank you, Ash. And you have a friend in me." The two of you sit in silence for a while. Halda seems content and pained at the same time as she forces herself to eat.
While you wait to continue the friendly conversation, we'll move to Kristofferson.
Kristofferson approaches table 4 (rolled in your character sheet).
A half-elf man dines alone, playing with his food with a grumpy expression on this face. He jots notes in a small book on the table. He doesn't seem to notice you approach, and just before you speak, he says to himself, "No, no, no," and jots another phrase in his book.
"No, sir. I don't think I look like one of Madame Freona's daughters, do I?" K says with a wink. Given the man's brusque nature, K sits without waiting for permission, thinking that might buy him some respect. "What are you writing?"
The man grins and responds, "They're notes for the article I plan to write. I am Schuyler, a food critic here in Neverwinter. I haven't reviewed the Tea Kettle in too long, and they have a few new dishes. Unfortunately, this squab is terribly saturated with Safflower oil. Safflower oil is far too pungent to be used in such quantities."
Kristofferson, you know that safflowers grow locally only within the Quivering Thickets of the Neverwinter Wood. They are gathered for their oil as well as for decorative floral uses. They are relatively rare outside of Neverwinter, where they are a bit more common and often sold to tourists in floral necklaces or bouquets.
"Great, thanks again." K returns to the wall by their table. He'll share everything from his conversation with Schuyler and suggest that Surruk is more suspicious than Schuyler.
Kristofferson: Schuyler gives you a faux-salute as you leave the table and gets right back to tasting his meal, scowling, and jotting notes in his book.
Badger approaches table 3 (the only remaining table of the 6).
An older human man and dwarven woman dine together, talking emphatically. Neither looks like an adventurer, as both are dressed in fine clothes. From your conversation with Eve and Esma, you know the man to be a merchant named Yanna.
Badger pats Yanna on the back and says, "Yanna, it is good to meet you. I have heard good things. May I join you? I may be in the market for some of your wares."
Yanna sees you approach from behind, and turns to meet your greeting. Your friendly nature puts him at ease, but he is put off by your touching his shoulder; he moves a hand to protect a bag that sits under the table when you do so. "This is a private meeting, mate. Please move along."
The dwarven woman looks concerned at the interruption and nods when Yanna tells you to move along.
Badger continues his friendly demeanor, "Oh come now, Yanna. I'm merely interested in making a deal. I'll be happy to wait until this deal is complete. I'll just wait right here." He stands very near the table, turned slightly away to feign privacy, but within reach of Yanna.
Badger: Yanna's impatience shows. "Go on and wait in the outhouse for all I care. You're intruding."
The dwarven woman says to Yanna, "Perhaps we do this another time—"
Yanna interrupts: "No, I want this deal completed now. Come, we'll complete the deal elsewhere."
As he stands, he grabs the bag, and in his haste, he bangs it against the table leg.
The sound of glass shattering echoes through the room, and then Yanna screams as his body is surrounded by a blue crackling energy. He falls to the floor, a dagger-like object clutched in his hand. The dwarf at the same table pushes back her chair and runs for the door.
All:
At this moment, K has returned to the meeting place by the wall (about 30ft east from Yanna facing west), Ash still sits with Halda (about 15ft north from Yanna, facing north), and Badger stands by Yanna (facing him). The dwarf has fled to the door (about 30ft south of Yanna).
As there is now a time component involved, I have rolled initiative for each of you in your character sheets.
Kristofferson, the cloak doesn't do much to the blue lightning; it still crackles around Yanna for a few more seconds.
Then, it jumps to Schuyler, who had been turned in his chair, surveying the scene. The blue lightning crackles around him just as it had Yanna, and Schuyler appears to be in a similar amount of pain as Yanna had. Schuyler similarly collapses to the floor as the blue energy surrounds him.
Yanna remains unconscious.
The dwarf woman continues to flee, and is now out of the tavern.
Now that the lightning has attacked someone else, other patrons are starting to stand, shout questions, start gathering personal items, or simply making a hurried exit.
Ash, what would you like to do?

Ash insight: 14
You can tell she is now hiding something—you doubt she has family in this area.
Ash pauses, watching her. "Oh. Okay. I'm glad you feel safe. Just know you have a friend in me, Halda."
He sits back in silence for a bit, thinking.

The man looks up at you and curtly asks, "You work here?"

K, please give me a nature check.
Kristofferson nature check: 16
Kristofferson, you know that safflowers grow locally only within the Quivering Thickets of the Neverwinter Wood. They are gathered for their oil as well as for decorative floral uses. They are relatively rare outside of Neverwinter, where they are a bit more common and often sold to tourists in floral necklaces or bouquets.
Kristofferson replies, "Oh thanks for the tip. I'll avoid the squab. Is there a dish you recommend?"
Schuyler takes another bite of squab and scowls again.
"The duck is delicious; pair it with the leek soup and an ale."
"Great, thanks again." K returns to the wall by their table. He'll share everything from his conversation with Schuyler and suggest that Surruk is more suspicious than Schuyler.

Initiative:
Kristofferson: what would you like to do?
Kristofferson hurries to Badger's side. "Are we safe here? What is that object he's holding? Is it the magic item we're looking for?"
He looks closely at the dagger-like item, hopefully keeping clear of the crackling energy.
Investigation: 2 (nat 1)
Without knowing what else to do, K tries to protect the other patrons by covering Yanna with his cloak.
