(Oh, I was just reminding you! And looking it up, it's basically Carpenters tools, but he said evening not morning.) "Yeah, this is my new friend. Doesn't he look big and strong? I wanted to ask you if you could make him some barding?" Kizori looked hopeful, but he had never seen barding for a horse, only knew that his dad's big horse had it. He pets the yak, as he stands there.
"Come with me young goblin; we can pick up some gear at my place before we head to the guild tower." Syndra says, pulling up the end of her dress over her shoes, before marching out of the church.
Normand calls over that he'll catch up at Syndra's tower.
The dwarf laughs so hard that he coughs. After a moment, getting himself under control, Klandar says; "Sorry, I was not expecting you; or anyone, to say that. Um, yeah... Do you need it fast or can I backlog it a bit. There are many pieces of gear that me and mine will need to craft for the defense of this town. Does the yak count as one of them?"
Nathan also follows after Syndra. "So Syndra, what is your story? Can you tell us a bit about Kirystan and Surrisk, how well do you know them? Do you have any idea as to what we could expect?"
"Heh, he's my new friend. I just want to make sure he's safe when he's following me around." Kizori pets the yaks head. "He's gonna help me when I get back, aren't ya buddy." Kizori smiles at the yak as he takes another bite of the bush on his shell.
Syndra slows her pace to talk, walking next to Nathan, but addressing the group. "I was a young, ambitious girl; fresh to Northbank in it's prime. Magic flowed through the streets like water, sat in every booth and stall; and I wanted to be a part of it.
I applied to the guild, was tried and tested, and was found to have sufficient magical prowess to be granted training. Though difficult, I made progress and was eventually accepted to work under the guild master's head apprentice; Surrisk.
I found him pompous, power hungry, and completely devoted to Kyristan. A man with a superiority complex, a huge chip on his shoulder that gets bigger when he feels 'wronged', and a cowardice nature when truly tested; though that may have changed now that he's turned undead.
Can you describe what abilities he seems to have, after your battle?" Before you can answer, Syndra continues. "I honestly didn't know anything was going on, even after becoming Kyristan's apprentice myself; though it appeared that they were attempting to bring me into their dark council, when Kyristan was exiled.
As for Kyristan himself, honestly he never seemed the type of person to lead a wizards guild. He was persuasive enough sure, though I wouldn't call him charismatic; more compelling, like he just eventually got what he wanted, though you hated him getting it. He was rarely actively involved in his experiments, always delegating others to focus on the projects, while watching on them and occasionally stopping in to check on them in person.
Anyways, after he was exiled; I left and sought more training elsewhere. In the process I became quite wealthy as a trader and explorer. When I got the letter, I tried to get here in time to stop them, back wasn't fast enough it seems."
"Maybe not yet, but as soon as you can!" Kizori chuckles, "Yeah, I never thought I'd say it either, but he seems to like me. Or maybe the bush." He chuckles again. Turns to the dwarf with a wave, well I am off, I'll see you tonight for the tools!" He waves and wanders off, headed toward the mayor's house.
"Good thing you could escape having to join them. They try to lure or blackmail all magic users into becoming one of them, a Spectral Wizard, as they call it. Do you know anything about what a Spectral Wizard is? Maybe something you heard from Surrisk when you were working with him?
We have met Surrisk, and as far as I could see, only magical weapons had an effect on him. They also sent undead monsters to attack the city, and they left a trail of black ooze behind them, that hurts anyone who touches it. Do you know what this could be, and whether there is any protection against it?"
"No, while I was under Kyristan, I did not hear about Spectral Wizards. As for the black ooze, sounds like some kind of necromantic ritual; and a powerful one to reach this far from his base in the mountain valley." Syndra replies. Though she seems to speak the truth, you feel that some things have been omitted.
Kizori, as you approach the mayor's house, you see the remains of Han's house, shattered across the street; the inside is a mess, with things thrown about and dumped in huge piles. Countless spellbooks and arcane tombs lay across the floor.
The road before you is much different than last you saw, with huge piles of dirt covering most of the black ooze along the road and around the empty home. The mayor's house sits untouched, beyond the barricaded parts of the yard where the undead travelled.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"That stuff is creepy." Kizori says to himself, he walks over to Han's house and begins picking up the items strewn about, and organizing the books. He looks around for any kind of bag he could use to move Han's possessions. He fills his own backpack as well.

Syndra replies, with a knowledgeable tone; "He left directions on his note. I know this area well enough to know that if Kyristan is going to build some necromantic base for his evil lichy antics, in that area he would likely do so at the old dragon cemetery in the mountain's valley. Course he would have to deal with the locals; but they wouldn't stand a chance against Kyristan."

Shalech shudders some more, "So Kyristan, a necromancer, made a stronghold surrounded by the corpses and skeletons of dragons? Can this day get any worse?"
(Tell Klandar that, lol. I prefer to not skip over interactions with NPCs whenever possible; helps to develope the world.)

Shalech follows, lagging a bit behind so he can see Syndra clearly. He also listens intently to Syndra's answer to Nathan's question.

"so, that's what happened to them, I still can't believe anyone would do that, turn undead for the sake of power. It's just, crazy"

Kizori, among the mess you find a small gray soft clothed bag, which glitters as you lift it. The corner of a book peaks out of it's opening.
