You figure probably correctly that if each tower held 1 key piece and you have found the key piece for this tower that continuing on in this tower will not get you another.
However, you also guess that maybe you'll find loot of some sort....or maybe another trap...or monsters...or...something, but not a key piece.

"............anybody got any potatoes? We could drop a potato in each hole an' see which ones get viciously mauled by horrible monsters?"
Anton stares down the long length of the hallway. "The smart decision would probably be to go to the next tower and get the last piece of the key. It should be only one more piece, right? But I do hate to leave the rest of this place unexplored. What do you all think?"
Ember tries to turn this into a 'story time' moment changing their voices with each part.
"Once upon a time, we were hired by the King of Krawl to search for and acquire the Soul Stone, an artifact said to have powers over life and death. His magicians have failed him and he thinks that your group of heroes might be successful in finding it.
blah blah blah... teleported into a forest on the border of a high hill. More blah blah blah... The king appointed guide said "... you can keep anything you find except the Soul Stone."
Then he gave us an amulet with a large red gem. “When you are ready, hold the gem and click your heels three times. Anybody and anything within 10 feet of you will be transported back to the Kingdom. Don't come back without the stone. Good luck.”
Ember thumps himself on the head .. trying to see if anything else shakes loose.
"All he said was he wanted the Soul Stone, didnt mention payment! I'm OK with either choice. If there are other starving beasts here, I'd prefer to save them, though I'm pretty good with avoiding the slimes and oozes."
"Ember, how often can you send your little friend out?", Razzec asks while staring down the hall. "Maybe it can scout the hall for us in case there are more pitfalls waiting for us."
Ember has to think a moment before answering, "I can call it out two times before I need a long rest to regain my spirit connections."
So saying, he summons the primal spirit bound to his soul -- to appear 30 feet in front of the group. Ember smiles as the firey fox-like form appears in front of them, "I didn't summon it closer or you all might have been burned as it manifests."
(( as his bonus action, Ember will command the spirit to slowly move down the hallway toward the darkness. ))
The creature turns the corner and sees the corridor widen to 20 feet and 60 feet long. The center of the corridor seems to fall away but it is unclear at a distance.

Anton follows the fiery spirit, staying a short distance behind it. As they turn the corner and the corridor widens he moves to one side, staying out of the exposed center. He peers ahead where the corridor appears to fall away and approaches cautiously "is that a pit in the middle of the hallway?"
The hallway widens into a cylinder shaped space with the top and bottom obscured by mist. You cannot see farther than 10 feet up or 10 feet down. There is a series of discs evenly spaced in a circle around tthe perimeter of the cylinder. Each disc is about 8 feet wide and about 4 feet apart.

Razzec says the Ember as they start walking up the corridor behind his spirit fox, "Don't worry about me taking fire damage. It doesn't hurt me as much as it does others. And I can make it so it doesn't hurt at all if I have to. I've taken a fireball with no damage and was holding on to an enemy that ended up taking full damage since they couldn't actively move out of the way. But with no full sorceror or wizard in the group, doesn't look like I'll have to worry about that this time."
Razzec starts to look around the other side of the widen area to see what's going on.

Ember shrugs, "What we scrounge might be our only 'reward' from all this, so we might as well take advantage of the situation?"
Razzec ponders for a moment and says, "You might be right Ember. Does anyone remember what the King promised on our return?"
Ember tries to turn this into a 'story time' moment changing their voices with each part.
