Ah, well met. You must be the ones Gundren mentioned he'd be hiring. Is he not with you? When he was late in arriving, I thought he must have just waited to travel with the wagon.
Brand sighs in brokie as he picks up items and puts them back down.
"Master Gundren has been taken by the Goblin King. We rescued Sildar but we were too late to find Master Gundren."
Brand decides on what he wants to buy.
"May I please buy the following 1 x waterskin, 1 x tinderbox,1 x shovel, 2 x manacles, 10 x candles, 10 x oil flask, 2 x ball bearings (1000), 1 x rope (hemp)"
Ander, Thistle. Go outside and secure the wagon. Get these fellows their 10 gold each from the safe as agreed.
Captured? That's terrible. He's a good friend. I wish I had your strength of arm. I'd go find him myself. If you have it in your hearts I would implore you to rescue him.
The other two Rockseeker brothers, Nundro and Tharden, are camped somewhere outside town. I haven't seen them in a tenday or so. Should return any day now to resupply.
Brand puts his palms together as he clasps his hands in prayer.
Blessed Horus-Re, ruler of the day. Light of the world. Dear Barthen requests your disciple's assistance in recovering a lost friend. May you direct your follower along the correct path.
Brand takes out his Alms box and jiggles it as he continues to pray.
What's that my most merciful God? Tithes for Blessings, why yes... if only Barthen was strong enough to rescue Master Gundren himself. I will guide him to what he desires. Amen.
Brand looks at Barthen and smiles.
The Sun God protects willingly and mercilessly against the forces of evil. However, his followers require tithes to do his work. Nothing comes without sacrifice.
Barthen is a god-fearing man. Not your god, but faithful nonetheless. Brand recognises a small shrine to Lathander and a votive talisman of Waukeen, the god who smiles on merchants and commerce. He takes on one the gold pieces Brand just paid with and places it reverently in the alms box.
Faith is rewarded, so it is said. By your words and bearing I trust you to do right by Gundren.
Brand looks at the small shrine to Lathander and Waukeen. Brand makes the sign of the Sun God and nods respectfully towards it. Brand then places a hand on Barthen's forehead.
Good respects good wherever it may be found. Though we may worship different Pantheons, I respect a God-fearing man and one who is devout in his worship. May you continue to be successful in all your endeavors. Peace and prosperity be with you my friend.
Without anyone hearing, Brand silently casts Healing hands and Guidance (Charisma) on Barthen to signify the blessing. Brand's hand glows and warmth spreads through Barthen.
Barthen gives you directions to the Stonehill Inn. It is in the center of town and is a large, newly built roadhouse of fieldstone and rough-hewn timbers.
The common room is filled with locals nursing mugs of ale or cider, all of them eyeing you with curiosity. The proprietor is a short, friendly young human male. He is standing talking to a slightly haughty looking tall, blonde female elf
Brand notices all the locals eyeing them and says to Lucius.
"Not sure where Theqen went but at least we don't have to worry about Theqen stirring up the crowd."
Brand chuckles to himself.
"Shall we book rooms for the night and jump into a bath and good food then?"
Brand approaches the proprietor and Elf and listens into their conversation as he waits his turn. Brand's emotions and feelings become unreadable and he wears a blank look on his face.
"...and I'm telling you miss, our last five rooms were booked up by that old man for him and his four travelling companions a few hours ago. We're full up"
Are you quite sure, good sir? It’s a long way to Phandalin and I have not heard flattering word of the nearby inn. Oghma only knows what would become of me should I leave here alone.
Well Ol, what I’d really like is a room at this fine establishment but I’ll gladly settle for an ale and some company. The names’ Valeria Yunalesca, do call me Val though.
The barman looks relieved that someone has distracted the unrelenting Valeria and grabs four of his finest ales. He starts to walk off and then stops, looking at Ollanius and the others in turn.
"Would you be Sildar's chums by chance? You looks awful similar to what he described you as. He's paid for your rooms ahead of time. Good old soul is Sildar"
The inn has started to fill up well, but there is a table free and ample leaning space at the bar. Board is included with the room and one needs only signal the barman when ready to take your meal.
The background thrum is loud enough to offer some anonymity but not so loud that you can't hear each other
Brand looks up at Ollanius and Valeria chatting at the bar and then at Lucius. As no one has joined him at the table as yet, Brand says a prayer, pours himself a glass of red wine and tucks into his food. Enjoying the warmth, tasty food Brand looks to his companions.
Ol invites Val to the table and introduces his companions. He regales some of their eventful journey thus far before stopping to pack his pipe and start to smoke.

Well this has been lovely, but to be honest folks I’m hungry, tired and need of a good bed. Which way to the Stonehill Inn?

Ol looks about the inn weighing up the other patrons, always an eye on the entrances.
He slaps some coin on the bar and shouts to the barman. “Your finest drink please man, for me and my fine fellows”.
Ol makes eye contact with the blonde elf at the bar.
“Just passing through like us or looking to stick around? I’m Ol by the way. Can I get you a drink?”
Well Ol, what I’d really like is a room at this fine establishment but I’ll gladly settle for an ale and some company. The names’ Valeria Yunalesca, do call me Val though.

Brand stops the barman.
No Ale for me. May I have a bottle of the house red wine, a glass and could we have some food brought to the table, please.
Brand then walks over to the free table and sits.
