Gregor smiles at Jahia and bows. “Your path led you to kill, to be quiet for a time, and now to teach. No one else could teach Bayle what he needed to learn.”
After Jahia returns to dancing he says to the giant. “Thank you for bringing her back to dance, Master.” He pauses as if listening. “You are right. The victory can never be claimed by a warrior, whether he lives or dies, but only by those who receive his sacrifice. Safe travels.” Gregor adjusts his cloak to cover the festering wound at his side and walks quietly to watch the happy people dancing, particularly Kas who wobbles a bit. His smile broadens and he laughs a bit as well.
Tormund accepts the totem, thanking the hunters for their gift and their kindness. He wears the necklace with pride, joining in the festivities with others. Though initially hesitant to dance, when encouraged he joins the others on the floor, somehow looking quite graceful despite his particular tall frame and long limbs. Eventually he'll find Bayle and clasp him on the shoulder. "You've grown, young Bayle. Your help in reaching Jahia and protecting the people of this town cannot be understated." Tormund will offer him a sturdy hunting knife (dagger), sheathed in rabbit hide and a handle carved from antler and walnut. "This is a tool with more uses than can be counted and If you care for it, it should serve you well as it has me. If you find yourself in danger, use it only in defense of yourself or others as we did today, never to chase glory or fame. Your heart will tell you what's right."
Natalia gets tanked as the villagers swarm her. She unashamedly shows off the axe that slew the giant and even poses with it. Once Natalia draws in a crowd, she gives the most exaggerated recount of their journey to bring Jahia back-- highlighting Bayle’s exceptional skills as an explorer, the terror of discovering the bandits' bodies, and the harrowing moment when they nearly lost Gregor and Kas to the spiders. She provides theatric tension of when they wandered the dark forest afterwards, miraculously finding the Giantslayer, who kimdly sheltered and healed their wounds. Natalia gives her flowers to the group-- showering Gregor with praise for his infinite wisdom, celebrating Tormund for his expertise and humbledness, and Kas for staying cool throughout. Obviously, during her retelling, Natalia pats herself on the back for easily overcoming every challenge and "leading" their strategy.
If she wins the admiration of the village's children, Natalia will reenact the battle with them, where she plays the giant. After they "defeat" her, she will teach them how to craft junior badges and provides unsolicited advice on the importance of branding one’s business.
As promised, Natalka makes a few (even more crude) badges, and hands them out to Gregor, Tormund, Kas, Jahia, and even KlemKlaw to remember their victory by.
After her last drink, Natalia will attempt to track and convince a craftsperson to help her fashion a belt from the giant’s spine-- wanting an iconic and recognizable look.
After the evening's celebrations settle and the pale sun rises in the morning, the stench of the giant makes clear that much work remains to be done.
As expected, The Lord of Twin Rivers responds quickly to the town's need now that there is no risk of loss. Those who stick around to help soon find themselves sidelined by the lord's forces, who work with a team of mercenary contractors to destroy, dispose and harvest parts of the giant's body.
Though the forces are evasive about the purpose of their harvest, Jahia strongly suspects the involvement of The Ecumenical Order of Mortal Advancement, more commonly known as "The Reclaimers". They are a growing continental movement who believe the material world is subject to all manner of magical phenomena which they aim to discover, tame and harness for, "the betterment of all mortal races."
She has no evidence to confirm this, but she makes a point to keep KlemKlaw out of their sight, just in case. She has no interest in picking a fight with the lord's forces or what she calls, "The Reclaimer Cultists," but she doesn't want to take the risk of the wolf(s) falling into back into the hands that made them.
Within a few days, the work is done and life begins to return back to normal for the town. You all feel fortified from the work you've done and ready to move on to whatever's next.
Rumors suggest there's work to be found in the Rover's Guild in Aym, a quickly growing port town a few week's journey to the west. You're welcome to make your way there in search for adventure, or go your own way, fortified by the knowledge that you liberated a town from a deadly foe and allowed a community to flourish for years to come.
The End
For anyone who wants to join the in-person campaign I'll be launching in the next month or so, you're welcome to bring these characters up to Level 2 or roll up new ones. Keep your eye on the discord server for an upcoming invite. Thanks again for playing!
Gregor recuperates with Kas (a week clears Kas’s concussuin, while Gregor should take two to three weeks to fugly heal his infected wound) and then sets out for Aym. The brusk and secretive manner of the Order worries him and he is still saddened by his failure to aid KlemKah. The mysteries of the world contain lessons he has yet to master and perhaps by seeking adventures, as Qoneus did in the tales told by the runes carved into the Giant’s Teeth, Gregor may learn some of them before they are all tamed and harnessed.
