As Solid Shadow backs away as much as he can, cowering in a corner as if to protect himself from the sight of the holy symbol that Spira is presenting to him, Darvin comes forward, ready to strike...
Aidwyn, with very quick reflexes, has Geados ferry her across and brings herself next to Darvin. The undead will have to deal with a certain wall of shields, once hostilities begin... but for now Darvin and Aidwyn hold back from striking, so as not to break the holy effect of the tiefling cleric's action - and thus allow the other members of the party to come and choose the most appropriate position on the battlefield.
Now Spira, Roxana and Rash are up! Any order! But remember: only one of the 3 can be transported by Geados in this round - the other two will either have to swim or wait for the next round.
Roxana is willing to let Rash go ahead first. Standing at the edge of the water, she looks across to see if she can find a line of sight to this solid shadow. (OOC - It looks like it is less than the 80 ft range of the bow. But the window is pretty small I think. Rolling in case she can see a shot.)
The Wrestling Wizard confirms his brutal interpretation of his role and is ready to be ferried by Geados. Unlike his predecessor, he does not wait any longer before opening hostilities and deals a resounding blow to the indistinct form of Solid Shadow, who takes the blow and cries out in pain.
Meanwhile, Roxana places herself at the corner of the Eldath Shrine, aiming at the undead, almost completely covered by the corner... [[ OOC: OK to attack, but I will consider the target to have cover ]] but the shot is too difficult and the arrow hits the corner and bounces away.
Gaer, frustrated, would like to contribute... but he has no useful place to take aim, so he sends Rubybreeze to attack! The fast female Blood Hawk covers the distance that separates her from the disturbing target in an instant and swoops down on him to peck it!
Unfortunately, the disturbing nature of the target disturbs the brave Blood Hawk too much, making her hesitate a moment too long and the attack is easily avoided.
Anita, meanwhile, is even more frustrated and simply waits to be ferried to Geados, praying that Rash doesn't get into trouble in the meantime. Sure, he's a tough guy - but that shadow creature has such a disturbing appearance...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Literally pressing her advantage, the Sergeant of Arvandor advances confidently to the empty space beside Aidwyn so that she and her husband are flanking Lathander's chosen knight. "Back, foul dwimmerlaik!," she cries, the words coming unbidden to her mind as if from the lay of some far-off sage or bard. Their meaning comes clear to her next moment, and she cries out again to warn her comrades and cow the shadow still more with her knowledge of its true nature. "Back, you corrupted mockery of a wizard!"
But the plan in her mind is undisturbed by the strange utterance. She holds Angharradh's symbol before her like a shield, and a silvery mist of light seems to rise from the metal that steadily presses inwards towards the Solid Shadow. She uses this to drive the creature around behind Rash towards the corner where Spira had felt the splinters of Roxana's arrow rain about her moments before. "Draw again, Dove!," she calls to the Shadow Archer. "I'll chase it your way for another shot!"
Even as she speaks she feels a twinge of worry that Roxana might think Cattie-Brie a better archer than Dove Falconhand and feel insulted instead of complimented; but this is quickly forgotten in her concern that the Solid Shadow won't be willing to pass her to get into Roxana's kill zone. To prevent this, she quickly invokes the Spear of Angharradh and uses it to prod the unholy umbra steadily towards the spot she wants it to go.
(OOC: yes, I know the turn undead is no longer effective since the SS took damage ... but SPIRA, never having had occasion to turn a gribbly before, isn't aware of that and would think this plan quite a good one. And as it puts her in position to buff pretty much everyone with a touch spell, its actually not such a bad strategic idea at that... IMHO, if I do so modestly say so myself LOL)
(also OOC: with that Spear of Angharradh, Spira's down to one spell slot each for 1st and 2nd, but she still has her cantrips and full hit points (so far). How is everyone else doing in terms of whether it makes sense to take a short / long rest after this fight, vs. pressing straight on?)
The Spear of Angharradh is much less intimidated than Rubybreeze and lands, leaving a glowing wound in the target's shadowy essence.
Dawnborn awaits her turn to be ferried by Geados, eager to support her companions.
Round 2
Adiwyn and Darvin, encouraged by the fact that the monster appears wounded, attempt to finish it off with a slash from the right and one from the left...
Solid Shadow easily evades Aidwyn's blade, but loses sight of Darvin, who was attacking at the same time - and pays the price, when the sergeant's blade splits the shadow structure, dissolving part of its essence.
The undead now seems more evanescent and slower... but the weapon does not hurt it as much as it should have, allowing the monster to continue fighting!
And so a disturbing formula is accompanied by threatening gestures, following which Darvin and Rash experience for a moment the horrifying vision of their most secret fears...
Both Darvin and Rash must pass a DC 13 Wisdom Saving Throw or drop whatever they are holding and become frightened, forced to flee away from the monster!
While the half-orc wizard, not easily impressed, manages (albeit barely) to resist the horrible vision, the sergeant's face suddenly transfigures with terror and he immediately drops his sword and shield, to turn his back and run away with a loud scream!
Solid Shadow takes advantage of this to try to touch him by extending what seems to be a limb of pure darkness...
Rolling last initiatives:
Aidwyn: 26
Spira: 7
