"No, you can't jump it. I can jump farther than you, we've settled that in training, and that's close enough to the limit I wouldn't try without magical assistance," Amaranth says to Zbornak.

Zyrelle comments, "I think the idea of using a rope for safety is a good idea, The first person across would be anchored at this end, the last person from the other side, and everyone else from both ends. That would limit how far anyone could fall. But that there are boards here makes it seem that someone is using this path."
{Any information from the previous dropping a glowing rock to the bottom?}
Zozzie surveys the chamber, looking for any threats. He casts Produce Flames to aid in his observation. He then moves to the planks and checks their sturdiness, casting Mending on each to ensure their structural integrity.
As he does so he also comments, “I’m not saying we use the planks, or even go this way, but I can probably get to the other side with a Misty Step spell if we wanted to secure an additional safety with a rope as well. I believe we have options.” He looks for input from the others before committing to a specific direction.
The planks look old, but feel quite sturdy to the touch. The mending spell strengthens the planks' connection to the ground and fixes a small crack in the wood.
Zyrelle nodded, "Likewise I could fly over, but wouldn't be able to fly back today." Curious about the ravine, she goes to the edge and looks down into the darkness.
She warns the others, "I want to see how deep this is and what's at the bottom. I'll need to turn off the light for a moment."
Finding a small pebble, Zyrelle transfers the light spell to the pebble, then tosses it lightly into the ravine, watching it as it lights the ravine on it's way down.
The pebble begins to fall down the hole, lighting up one of the walls as it falls. It falls for quite some time before eventually it seems to bounce off of something at the bottom and the light disappears. You didn't hear any sound coming from the bottom, and the stone fell so far you couldn't tell what it had hit.

Correct, I'm using RAW jump rules and the estimation is accurate. I certainly won't stop Zbornak from trying to jump it though.

"If this is our decision, I will be the first to cross to ensure the stability of the bridge."
Zbornak agrees, disappointed as she is that she won't get to jump over the ravine. Still, this is why she liked Amaranth so much - no frippery, just straight to the point honesty that was rare on the Docks. "Okay, let's see where this other passage leads, even if we don't go that way."
This tunnel is long and winding, and entirely uphill, but eventually it leads you to a small cliff with a rope ladder at the top. Looking further, you see a cavern you recognize: the second room when you first entered the cave with the small stream flowing on the side.
"Do you guys think we can use this rope ladder elsewhere? I say we take it, we can always put it back when we come back through." Zbornak starts inspecting the rope ladder and estimating how big it'd be rolled up.
The elf doesn’t spend much time contemplating the reason they may have missed the rope ladder in the first place. “Perhaps we overlooked it, we only gave a glance in here to begin with. We could either throughly check out this chamber now before returning to the chasm room, or after on our way out. Maybe completing the circle is best?”
(OOC: While I usually have characters with Navigators or Cartographers proficiencies, Zozzie is not one of them. lol)
The elf slowly turns to look at Amarath with her question of ‘Anybody?’ “I have made exactly 326 paces since we descended to the cavern floor. I can recall that much. I…didn’t think to actually map it out.” He drops to one knee as if looking at something on the ground but really, it’s to cover him dropping his head in shame.
Zyrelle comments, "Sorry, I'm not good with mapmaking either. I do have parchment and ink though, so I could try making one that might help us find the way back."
“Well let’s take it, who knows, it could come in handy later on” Cadence says, looking at some of the stronger ones in the group to take on the additional burden
Zbornak unhooks the ladder, picks it up, and stows it awkwardly in her pack. "I've been keeping a mental map, but my sense of relative direction is a little skewed by not having the harbor for reference. Up top it's much easier, go far enough in one direction you hit the cliffs, any other direction you're getting wet. Still, I think I know more or less where we are." Her voice trails off a little at the end, which doesn't instill much confidence in her navigation abilities underground.
With the ladder secures to Zbornak's pack, it would appear the group's options are to head back to the chasm chamber. "We should still spend a little more time exploring that first room later...if we aren't being chased out that is." the elf quips as he begins to return to their earlier point. "Zyrelle, I don't think the map needs to be a masterpiece. I am sure you will do fine. Even a line connecting circles to show corridors and chambers is better than what we have now. I can tell you the paces and we can convert it later. Together, we can work on it." He silently counts the steps again knowing that each pace is about as long as he is tall.
(OOC: Unless the group would like to do something different?)
Zyrelle will try to make a basic map showing chambers and the connections between them without worrying about the path of connections. She'll also include major features of each chamber, such as the rift in the room they were going back to, and enough minor features to identify the rooms as distinct.

Zyrelle suggests, "Before leaving here, I think it would be worth taking at least a quick peak at the other passage on this side of the ravine."
“I agree. Good to see what are options are. I don’t fancy the drop here.”

As she looks down, Zyrelle comments, "I'm wondering why we didn't notice the rope ladder when we were in that lower chamber."

“Yes, let’s complete the circle so there are no surprises.”
Amaranth looks around to see if any of us remembered our training and have at least made a rough map. "Anybody?"

((The rope ladder in question is not dangling down over the edge, it's bunched up at the top))
The ladder wouldn't be too heavy to carry around, and it's easy enough to hold or attach to yourself when it's rolled up.
"I haven't been keeping a map," says the sergeant, who is evidently unhappy that no one else has been either.

(works for me!)
