Amaruve gives Keenwhistle a quick salute then hops through the portal into the freeze frame high five.

(checking with officials... And yup, they're going to allow the high five!)

Cordelia follows everyone once they enter the portal and doesn't say another word until they are safely through.

For once, there is no darkness after the white...

The five of you stand upon a rooftop (well, the seven of you- Perspicacious, you have a kitten in your arms, and a cat is butting its heads against your legs). You are incredibly high in the air, perhaps eight or nine hundred feet. The roof is quite large, possibly 50 yards to a side. It is surrounded by a thick plexiglass wall and dotting its surface are the air ducts, electrical boxes, and utility closets you would expect to see on the roof of a skyscraper. Cordelia, this is a startlingly familiar scene, as the city this building exists within could very well be found on Earth. In fact, as far as you know, this is Earth. There are no planes in the sky, though; no sign of people whatsoever. Except for the constant whoosh of air around you and the burning orange sunset to the west, there is nothing to remark of in this space. 

"Nothing except me, of course!" You hear a shout from behind you. There is a sudden burst of pigeons taking flight, and standing on the base of a radio spire is the Pretender. Of course it's him. "Because who else would it be, right, my dearies?" He's wearing a well-tailored black pinstripe suit and a dashing blue bowler cap, which rests rakishly to the side of his hideous insectoid head. "Oh, my loves, I had such fun playing cat and mouse with you back there. Gotta say, I really thought you'd take the bait, brother bear. I can't believe you made it out alive!" He looks to Jean, "And YOU! I had so much fun sending little dreams of mouse ghosties that I sent an honest to goodness ghost pirate ship your way and you STILL made it through!" He shakes his head. "That's all over and done with now, though. Vashty may be here, but he's tied up at the moment" Above you, you see Vasht's form painfully immobilized by those orange and purple ribbons of burning light. 

Somehow, in spite of his long mandibles, The Pretender grins wickedly. "Let's have some fun before you die!"

The pretender's form is enveloped in shadow. He twists and writhes, then standing where he once looked down upon you all is...

A dark unicorn!

Reaching for her shortbow, Cordelia doesn't hesitate for a moment. She fires an arrow as she runs to cover. Cordelia tries to hide behind anything available to her. She tries to get a sense of this dark unicorn. At the forefront of her mind, she thought of unicorns that saved princesses or led people to safety. A dark unicorn? Could it be possessed by the Pretender?

Action: Attack roll: 11, Damage: 8 piercing 
Movement: Behind cover (if that's possible at all)
Bonus Action: Cunning Action to Hide

Cordelia watches the Pretender's transformation even as she fires a bolt from her weapon (which sails harmlessly past without causing damage). While the others see only the dark, snorting beast pawing at the ground, she sees the same effects that afflicts the party when they travel to a new world. Luna's vision shifts back and forth between unicorn and bug-headed man: The Pretender has displaced this creature, and somehow he is electing to bring it to the forefront now. 

Amaruve roars a Thunderous howl as he charges Raging at the beast. A roar so tremendous it forces the pretender back 10 feet, away from his allies, and deals 9 Thunder damage. (Con DC 14 for half and no push.)

(Move forward, Thunderwave, Rage, move further if needed.)

(Magic Resistance. The unicorn has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.)

Con Save: 18

(The unicorn is indeed blasted back 10 feet onto level ground. He manages to land on his hooves, and he is now 30ft from you all)

Unless Perspicacious does something incredibly clever, the dark unicorn casts entangle, surrounding you all with vines and creepers in a 20ft square centered in the midst of you.

The square is now difficult terrain. (Strength save DC 14 for everyone, else you are restrained)

(If The Pretender is 30 feet from the party, and Amaruve closed that distance is he outside that area?)

"Nice try, Pretender - All you did was make me miss my beauty sleep and give me a cheese craving. At least this is more straightforward, Addlewits!" She sneered.

And then the Pretender transformed into what looked like an evil unicorn, which caused Jean to cover her face with her palm and silently question his masculinity.

Strength save: 20

Also, not that it matters, but unicorns are sort of inherently masculine, right? Am I alone there?)

Perspicacious reaches for her rapier, which as she grabs it morphs into a familiar longbow from a not forgotten hobgoblin. She nocks an arrow to it and releases it just as she is hit with entangling vines from the Pretender. 

Longbow Attack: 26 Damage: 11; Sneak Attack (If Amaruve is within 5 ft of pretender): 9

Save vs Entangle: 7
